Hi all. I'm just caretaking until Reastie returns, but here's our new thread. Please do use up the old one first though.

This is intended as a friendly, kind, safe, warm and fuzzy place for people to share discounts, bargains and Christmas gift ideas both online and IRL. Please note the tone and intention of the thread and join with spirit as generous as DC helping themselves to the Christmas chocolate celebrations

£130 is the very cheapest you will get it I think. That's an amazing price, I wonder if they are going to be bringig out an updated versionI'm looking for the Mclaren one and they are £199.

Thank you. I have ordered the red bull. She has the older McLaren but I refuse to replace with the newer as there are only slight differences (the weeks being one). It’s a great set and a great size for the price. I haven’t a clue where we are going to keep another one….and eventually the other 2 if she gets them. Apparently you can get a mount to mount them on the wall. We are big Lego fans, now just to get the shrek Lego set for myself 🤣.

Highly reccomend lookjng at the big beauty advent calanders this year look at whats inside them - that will give you idea.

Also dont no wht your price range is.
May work out cheeper geting deals in gift sets for brands or buy calenders and may work out cheepr.

Plus side of that is often can treat yourself lol

Cross posted, sorry!

That's ok, she would love it but I can't justify £50 on an advent calendar, need to buy for her sis too. I did think maybe they could share it but not sure that would work.

Do you have a link please as I couldn’t find it and the product I have been looking at has come back in stock. Many thanks

@Carrie76there is a website called Mary Shortle which has a smudge monkey for £69 but it’s not listed as a jellycat stockist on the jellycat website.

Mary Shortle is a toy shop in York, it's been around for about 50 years. They used to have two shops in Leeds as well.

They're a proper shop, not somewhere fly-by-night, if that reassures @Carrie76

Any ideas for an advent calendar for an 11 year old girl. Not into beauty or anything like that. I am getting a bit nervous as I normally have them by now 😬

I think 11 is an in between age for advents so I’m doing a DIY for DD2 who is nearly 11. I’m going to include a mixture of sweets, her current special interests (Warrior Cats and shark items, 2 blind bags, 5 bracelet bought in a set, stickers) and then some other cheap things like fidgets, pens, coloured Pritt sticks. I am finding it harder than for DD1 who likes miniature beauty items which I have from my own beauty advent calendars and others items over the year I’ve been collecting! But intend to pad out with Lindor which I hope keeps it interesting enough without being 24 days of chocolate.

We have some of the small and large F1 cars mounted on the wall- great option to display them without taking shelf space etc... Also big lego fans here, we have lego concorde mounted in my office!

@NaturalBlondeYeahRight yes that’s the blanket thank you. Now I’m torn between that & the hot water bottles option!

Yeah I checked out their website and they look legit but jellycat were selling smudge monkey for £30, so £69 is a massive mark up / profit.

DD wants a smudge monkey but I’m not paying over double the original price. I’ll keep looking and might get lucky.

I’ve been dithering about the turtle dove gloves and found this thread which convinced me not to go ahead with it www.mumsnet.com/talk/_chat/5275967-has-anyone-bought-turtle-dove-wrist-warmers-recently

Yikes I bought them before I got to this page!

Would you mind sharing how Concorde is mounted? Husband built this over the summer and it’s currently sitting on the sideboard and I live in fear of one of us (or the cats!) knocking into it. He had Saturn V for his birthday and i was going to get him a light set for this, but a mount for Concorde may be better 😊

Re Jellycats: I know my DD wanted the marshmallows earlier in the year, but they’ve now come out with a s’mores version. Any opinions on which is best/ cutest in person? I’m not sure whether to stick to the original or surprise her with the new version. Not a bargain, I know!

NotAdultingToday · 04/11/2026 17:25

The Oodie £1 deal is on at 7pm for anyone who is interested, i thought id have a try as i miss it every year 😂

A dr kit is great to make yourself. Cheap plasters/bandages from pound shop with thermometer. Real stethoscope from eBay and a lanyard and notebook/clipboard. Kept kids busy for hours!

That's such a cool idea. Syringes (without needles) from Amazon, too - although that could lead to them becoming water pistols...

My DD is keen on the marshmallows because she intended to split them up - you can’t do that with the s’mores. I know that’s not helpful sorry 🤣🤣

In case anyone hasn’t checked their JL Rewards, there are quite a lot of Xmas events available to book, including make up and craft sessions.

If anyone is planning on booking the JL tea party with Santa event, (not exactly a bargain), these are selling out fast, so it would be better to book sooner rather than later.

Speaking of JL, I didn’t understand why there were so many threads criticising the Xmas advert , but I have just watched it and I do now - what on earth were they thinking???

Any suggestions for a juggling set? My 14 year old has taught himself to juggle with 3 balls but the balls we have are quite old and broken.

I was thinking a more professional set with more balls or maybe some clubs? Don’t want to spend too much but don’t want it to look like a kids’ toy.

Thanks!

I juggle and my dad teaches it for a living, id go for a brand like Oddballs, juggle dream or cascade. They're good quality and have a good weight to them. Maybe something like these or do a search for Oddballs. Not sure of any deals currently though, I haven't looked
