What are you getting DH for Christmas?

For the first time ever, I’m stumped. Dh doesn’t like experience gifts and doesn’t want sport merch (has so much already!). Would love some inspiration from what others are getting their DH! Dh likes cooking, chess and football / F1.

Im not getting my husband anything! About 10 years ago, we were both in this predicament, so chatted and decided we wouldnt get pulled into the materialism to buy something for buying sake.

Its lovely and liberating!

Kittkats · Today 07:23

No idea about mine, but he also loves chess and has an electronic/ smart chess board by DGT (that he bought himself and loves). Bit pricey but might be worth a look.

Would he like any cooking equipment e.g. a Japanese knife, a magnetic knife block, a really good pan (all of these have gone down well with DH over past years). I tend to get cooking stuff for the "something he needs" part of his present. Also something to wear, a book, tickets to something and a board game.

We also stopped gifts a few years ago and book a city break instead for start of spring. My favourite gift tbh

DiscombobulatedHedgehog · Today 07:30

Nothing. We agreed years ago not to give each other presents. It’s so relaxing. We show we care with cups of tea, cuddles, a nice walk together etc on the day instead.

sesquipedalian · Today 07:31

What sort of cooking does your DH like? Mine makes bread so I’m getting one of those bread and pizza stones that you put in the oven.

We got a new outdoor setting this year and dh hates mosquitoes and flies. I think I’m getting him a box mozzie net meant for enormous beds. We can tie it to the rafters of the verandah. I can see him rolling his eyes at it, though.

I once got that to DP and he loves it! https://amzn.eu/d/04zdUd6S

@wannabeCali tried that and never used.

I was in this predicament for my other half’s birthday, so I decided to book a table at a Michelin star restaurant that we’ve really wanted to go to since we moved here last year. We were greeted with a glass of Prosecco, they’d actually read the booking notes and wished him happy birthday as he walked in (I didn’t think people read the booking notes anymore, I was delighted they saw that) and then we got the wine pairing to go with a five course meal.
It was expensive (about £240), but it was so worth it! We had a fabulous evening. The food and wine were tremendous and the service was so good.
I’m really considering doing the same thing for Christmas.

This year- I have no idea? Some things I've done in the past/ideas:

-A nice BBQ tool set. This one comes in a box but ours came in a wrap up, canvas type bag and shoulder strap.https://www.argos.co.uk/product/7338586?utm_custom6=LIA&utm_source=google&utm_medium=free_listing&utm_campaign=merchant_center&deeplink=true
-One year I got us both tickets to do a yosushi lesson. We still make sushi now and its so much nicer than shop bought. You could also give a little hamper with sushi rice, nori sheets, pickled ginger, sushi vinegar, wooden bowl/paddle etc. https://yosushi.com/sushi-school
-DH bought me this book last year and I love it https://www.tkmaxx.com/uk/en/home/stationery+books/books/ottolenghi-simple/p/64124178?utm_source=Google&utm_medium=OrganicShopping&utm_campaign=GoogleShopping&utm_term=6412417811111&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=19775594601&gbraid=0AAAAACnqQKt1zneOCRmIQSagchF2bMxQk&gclid=CjwKCAjw0LzWBhBOEiwAKQd0cF4eOmWDkYzXvZSND0jBsr1x8yQ6CIlvk9GHFSDiB46yr4iRUp9WYBoC6-YQAvD_BwE Again, a mini hamper of some key ingredients could go with it- rose harissa, tahini, preserved lemons etc
-Leather BBQ/cooking apron

Dh & I do token presents. No strict limit but cheap and cheerful is the theme. Usually books or something from the charity shop and favourite chocs. I like puzzling and dh tries to find a truly weird/hideous one in the charity shop:)
Then we spoil ourselves to a pub lunch after new year.

Multiple shags

I’ll love it. He will love it

I have bought a few sexy Christmas bedroom outfits and some funny ones for him. So we have a fair few nights to fill once the kids are asleep

however my parents are going to have the kids for 2 nights at some point during the Christmas holidays so we will probably get a hotel, eat some lovely food, get stupid drunk on Prosecco and bang until the early hours. Then hop back into parent mode

Papyrophile · Today 08:35

For the cooking aspect of the present, try SousChef for exotic ingredients... for equipment, Borough Kitchen is excellent, and for tools, I like Katto for Sheffield-made Japanese steel tools, utensils and bar ware. Hope this is helpful.

tinderboxofaheart · Today 08:38

We don’t do gifts. We do Secret Santa across the wider family and presents for children. Our Christmas focus is more about get togethers, games and stuffing our faces!

Rainbow1901 · Today 08:58

We stopped years ago - if we fancy a weekend away or a meal out or some random thing for the house or hobbies we just go with it rather buying Xmas gifts.

CoastalCalm · Today 09:00

Nothing we are going away to Lisbon for a long weekend in December and counting that as our present to each other as I need nothing and he would probably say he needs xyz and it will remain unused

LeahCariad · Today 09:08

We don't get each other gifts, but take it in turns to plan a date night once a month. We do each other a small stocking just for fun.

AmicaNemica · Today 09:11

Not for Christmas but for our anniversary, sponsored an olive tree and received a can of olive oil from https://www.crowdfarming.com/en?srsltid=AU7gw4VSMFkPA3qfIqxSd2Tl_ovyAH0VUNJEhqQs8VTkCDiWPE5TQUFb
My brother buys loads, artisan pasta, rice, jars of pickled veg.

Rose785 · Today 10:05

I have got my husband the following:
transformer lego
Watch Strap
Xbox Controller
Cap
Noodles bowl with chop sticks
Noodles
Ghostbusters PJS
Sweets
Kinder Santa
Nightmare before Xmas PJs
Socks
Pens

It honestly looks like I have bought for a teenage boy ha ha!

Beccahm · Today 15:52

We never buy each other anything. Instead, we always have a night or experience together... we'll often go to a (very expensive and lovely ) spa hotel as a Christmas treat, and just feel spending our money on relaxing / creating memories together is better than opening something on Christmas morning.

We wrap up things for each other so our DD feels like she's not the only one, tho! Last year I'd brought some candles for myself (nothing to do with Christmas I just wanted them) and wrapped those up for my stocking so it wasn't empty hahah. DH had gotten himself some microplanes (he's the cook) so they became his stocking filler 😆

Cherryrainbow · Today 19:19

GTA 6
Funko pop figure
Dragon ball z puzzle
Chocolate
Candle

dcadmamagain · Today 19:21

Why don’t you just do a weekend away

MeowDoku · Today 19:27

We often do a trip, a spa weekend , city break etc and then just get each other a few tokens like perfume or as last year for DH a fancy portable blender for smoothies 🤷🏼‍♀️, but he uses it every day! Then stocking fillers like books or hobby related bits.
