I quoted consumer rights act 2015. Automatic refund for me .

Through a human or their chat bot?

ExtraordinaryBush · 07/10/2026 21:40

My starfish order finally arrived after ordering on the 19th September. Worth the wait, don't give up if you're still waiting!

keepincool · 07/10/2026 21:54

JustMyViewOnThis · 07/10/2026 21:37

I’m waiting… I had the chat with their bot yesterday and have been told someone will get back to me. It’s been 24 hours so seeing this has prompted me to go and follow up.

I asked CoPilot about this and got the following:

If the products weren't obviously perishable items with a very short shelf life, and there was no clear indication before purchase that they needed to be consumed within days or a couple of weeks, many consumers would reasonably expect them to have a normal shelf life.

The complaint could focus on:

1. Failure to provide important pre-contract information
A key question is:
Would I have bought this item if I'd known it was about to expire?
If the answer is no, consumers can argue that the imminent expiry date was material information that should have been disclosed before purchase.
For example, if someone orders:
•biscuits,
•chocolates,
•preserves,
•confectionery,
•gift hampers,
they would generally expect them to last for a reasonable period, not expire within a week or two.

2. Not as reasonably expected
The issue is not necessarily that the food expires.
The issue is that:
"A consumer purchasing food online would reasonably expect a shelf life long enough to use or gift the item. The short expiry date was not disclosed and is substantially less than a consumer would reasonably expect."

3. Moonpig cannot simply rely on the "food" exemption
Many retailers misunderstand the Consumer Contracts Regulations.
The exemption relates to goods that are liable to deteriorate or expire rapidly. If the goods were already close to expiry when sold and that was not disclosed, the consumer's complaint is really about the retailer selling unexpectedly short-dated stock without adequate notice.

Suggested wording
Something along these lines is likely to be more effective:

"I am complaining because the product supplied has an extremely short remaining shelf life which was not disclosed before purchase.
Had I been informed that the item would expire on [date], I would not have purchased it.
Consumers purchasing food gifts online would reasonably expect a shelf life sufficient to allow normal use or gifting. The product received did not meet that expectation.
Please reconsider your decision and provide a refund."

@FragileWitch depending on how many you need, TG Jones (shop formerly known as wh smiths) has buy 3 get 4th free on books, and lots of the clothbound penguin classics, there will be other lovely options too I'm sure. If you want mega fancy the Folio Society editions are beautiful. I am also a fan of the Persephone range, simplistic as it is I find it really pleasing.

Ideas for Thread 4 or is 5 ….The one where Moonpig dies on its Costco arse….?😂

FragileWitch · 07/10/2026 18:18

Sorry to be jumping on here with a request and not a bargain. If anyone finds any bargains for books, classics, Agatha Christie or YA that are fancier than the normal paperback, then I would be incredibly grateful.
I looked at the recent Waterstones and Harper Collins deals but couldn’t see what I was after.

Not bargainy I am afraid but this is pretty

Chat bot....then human authorised it the next day. Two free bottles of hotel Chocolat 😁

Caillieach · 07/10/2026 22:45

I was offered full credit on the Moonpig Hotel Chocolat liqueur. I was happy to take this and have ordered 3 diffusers with DELIVEROFF giving me free delivery and I still have £2.50 credit left!

Nomdeplumeforthis1 · 07/10/2026 22:48

@JustMyViewOnThisi got £10 credit via the chat bot for the £7.50 hotel chocolat liquer. I was very nice and just said I didn’t see anywhere that it said it was short dated, and the gift recipient was a bit disappointed it had such a short date on it.
Hopeful my starfish is on the way but I’m giving up on space nk from the 13/09 and fed up of the crappy response to emails that it’s on the way. To be fair without promoting they randomly refunded but I do actually want my order and apparently it will be sent.

BananaWoman999 · 07/10/2026 22:56

Very niche, but just ordered some jogger jeans... size medium £6.97 but when I went to pay, there was a random extra £3.49 off so about £3.50 for jeans!

Can't promise it'll be there for everyone but worth a try!

Streetcornerchoir · 07/10/2026 23:25

Been offered the full amount but in credit on the account. I'm not used to complaining 😅 shall I take the credit? If I refuse am likely to end up with nothing? It's like shopping deal or no deal ...

Would take me a long while to spend that much at moonpig.

No deal, no deal! 😅

I think hope you’ll be fine, so many others refunded, just keep repeating I’d like a full refund!

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 07/10/2026 19:03

@HippeedippeemeeThis is the Next Christmas diffuser on Moonpig that’s on special. Looks nice but can get quite a few at that price point I feel. https://www.moonpig.com/uk/gifts/p/next-orange--patchouli-100ml-diffuser/home1058/

Thank you. I will have a look and also check what else is in the price range elsewhere 😊

Thanks, it did give me the discount too, although even without it I’d have taken a punt.

Gutted I missed these! Back up to full price now.

Ewock · Yesterday 07:43

For those that buy xmas pj's Primark have some of theirs in. I've bought Winnie the Pooh ones. Adults are £11 and you can do click and collect. They seem good quality.

Not as good a bargain as the £2 ones on Amazon, if they'd come 😉, they were worth a punt though.

onedsrightnow · 07/10/2026 21:22

It was the world of Agatha Christie and a brand called Laurence king I think! They have Ms Maple and Poirot ones too!

Thank you so much for the info. I disappeared into a jigsaw abyss last night. They are lovely jigsaws and I'm now thinking of who else needs a jigsaw for Christmas 😆

Not seen any bargains but a really interesting style is the 3D cityscape ones. We have the London one and it's multiple layers that shows London's roads and buildings over different time periods.
