Advice please on good places to buy the following - if not yet then closer to black Friday

  • good quality boxers (fitted not loose)
  • funny game/joke presents
  • Craft kits for a 6 year old

Baker Ross is always my go to for crafts kits. They always seem to have a good clearance section. For more fancy stuff I love Djeco branded ones but can't suggest anywhere that sells it at bargain prices sadly, although I have got a few unopened sets on Vinted before.

@HopefulBelieverI recently brought a Sandy Leaf cheese making kit as a gift on Amazon - can't vouch for what it's like though.

Has anyone here bought the Home Alone lego house, either new or I'm considering buying a second hand one because there's a pretty big price difference. If you have, any do and don'ts, is eBay an ok place to buy it?

I spent a while looking at them last year. If there is a big difference then I don't think it's likely to be genuine, or may have lots of pieces missing. (Though missing pieces could work out to be a deal as you can buy spares). I think your best bet is buying new and finding a cashback deal or similar.
On the plus side, if you keep the box and the instructions nicely then you will be able to resell it for a decent price.

Any suggestions for a stationary home office worker who is perpetually freezing? Have previously bought merino thermals, a fleecey hoodie, a snuggly thing to put their feet into and cashmere fingerless gloves. They also have an oil heater in there but they're still always saying they're cold the minute the weather turns 🙄

Am considering a heated hoodie, or chair warmer or something?! Or open to other suggestions from those who may be similar.

Probably not quite the thing you had in mind but what about a walking pad? I also get cold working from home in the winter but if I try and remember to move regularly it really helps.

Also - high-ish socks (sometimes ski socks) and warm slipper boots. If my ankles or feet get cold then my whole leg feels cold.

Just another heads up re Whistlefish that there are a lot of threads around saying that they rip designers off and then sell their stuff with no credit to them. It is not a nice business.

Is there proof of this or just rumours and hearsay?

Is there proof of this or just rumours and hearsay?

I had an internet search and found very little about it. Certainly nothing verifiable.

I’ve been trying to do another PLouise order but the mystery bag doesn’t add and when I try to put the code in it says it’s valid but not applied and to check T&Cs.

Not the end of the world if I can’t do another order, but it seems a shame to break up my initial order given it comes in a lovely box, I was thinking of gifting 2 full boxes rather than open and share the contents.
On that note, is there anything I should be aware of if I don’t open the box (I.e. delivery note, issues with the mystery gift, etc)?

hugsandpugs · 04/10/2026 19:01

copy the code when it first comes up and remove the code from basket til you reach the final checkout page then re add it

Tequilamockinbird · Today 18:54
I can’t get it to work. I’m unable to add the mystery bag to my basket without it also adding the code at the same time. Am I missing something?

@Thelifeofawife I wonder if this was the same issue that you are having, resolved by @hugsandpugs quote?

Thelifeofawife · 05/10/2026 00:02

@Arregaithel It doesn’t automatically appear in my basket (it did for the first order I placed), then when I put the code in that I got for signing up (under a different email address) it says the code is valid but not applicable

I bought ours on zavvi for about £230 last year, and used Quidco or top cash back which got it down to £215.

be careful on eBay that the box deffo says Lego, there are some v good fakes, or if it’s second hand, does it really have every piece? Most second hand Lego I’ve bought is always missing something. Check you have all the mini figs.

Thank you, that's useful

This time last year I had bought loads from these threads - admittedly a lot was for me!! This year - nada 😢 so far! I’m feeling a bit jittery as it’s making me feel quite behind.
on another note @Reastie idea for thread title - the one where we get our arses to cosco and off the plouise website (because this thread has been 90% plouise and it’s driving me nuts 🤣🤣)

Thank you so much for the advice so far.
Ive been suggested for my brother by his partner a cheese making kit or I think there was one about bacon on these threads last year???
Honestly confused where to start there so any advice greatly appreciated.

I bought a bacon subscription from London Smoke & Cure and it was probably from a thread last year, big hit with my partner and they were great when I needed to move a delivery date as we wouldn't be home one month

I bought my husband a Silent night ‘oodie’ from Amazon a couple of years ago. He didn’t look too impressed initially but he’s used it a lot so definitely recommend.

Also their lego sets seem to be a bit cheaper than other places, with lots to choose from - https://www.costco.co.uk/c/costco?q=::brand:LEGO&sort=price-asc

Anyone can apply for Costco's online membership if they don't qualify for a warehouse one.

For the person who asked for gifts for someone who works at home..fingerless gloves have massively improved my wfh comfort!

MayaTheBusyBee · 05/10/2026 10:00

Few things:

  • for those talking about heated gilets- Costco has some. Along with heated gloves, socks and others
  • my Moonpig order arrived and hotel chocolate liqueurs are indeed BB October 26
  • not cheap by any stretch of imagination but if anyone looking for a coffee machine, this SMEG one is cheapest there that i could find. With extra £10 BLC code comes to £319

I considered a throw but I don't think he'd sit with a throw over his knees in the office.

Mum on the other hand frickin loves hers I got courtesy of this thread last year 😁

I have a rechargeable heated pad that you can strap onto your body - specifically for back pain but can also just use for warmth!

@N96 @Focussingonme I found them cheaper somewhere else...I feel like it was the range online. Linked it in the last thread but can't find it in my history now. Same brand as Debenhams. Worth shopping around.

Thanks to both of you for taking the time to check and respond.
