Is anyone else spending Christmas alone?

One year I found myself unexpectedly single at Christmas and my family lived abroad. I was terrified but I got through it. When you’ve done it once you realise it has exactly the same pros and cons as spending any other day alone. You don't have to put up with anyone else's irritating behaviour and you can eat and watch and do whatever you like.

I’ll be expectedly and determinedly single.

I’ve tried volunteering in previous years, but there is no shortage of volunteers and they want references!

That makes sense, they always want background checks on volunteers - and rightly so - but a bit of a faff for a one day thing.

And from the charities POV too many inexperienced volunteers can be more of a hindrance than a help, so yeah I can imagine they turn a lot of people down!

Adding these to my list of reasons I don’t think volunteering to avoid being alone at Christmas is always a great idea…!

Amsterdam is lovely at Christmas, most places are open and the canal bridges are lit with fairy lights. Madeira is popular as well.

I've done Amsterdam at Christmas on my own several times.
