What board games are you buying this year? We have the classics, like Monopoly, guess who, Mouse Trap, Rummikub and some great ones we bought over the last few years like Ticket to ride, Triggle, Bananagrams.
Looking for fresh ideas! We prefer the shorter games to be honest!

We have loved catch phrase (although you need one person to be a host), 30 seconds, and pictionary.

Nomdeplumeforthis1 · 25/09/2026 22:35

Herd mentality is always a winner for us

Daffydoll · 25/09/2026 22:37

Herd mentality is excellent

velomumhackney · 25/09/2026 22:38

ticket to ride.

FurForksSake · 25/09/2026 22:40

We’ve got the 1% club, traitors and catan that we like. We’ve also got lots of short games that we play, big potato games is good for all sorts of ones.

we’ve also got a fun game involving raccoons and trash cans.

we will try and play a game every evening of the Christmas holidays and take turns in picking.

I’ve bought the 1% Club game this year. Tapple was a big hit last year for all ages. Scrabble is also a classic and one we enjoy at Xmas with a drink it can get trickier depending on how much drink is taken!!

Herd Mentality with the right group of people is brilliant fun.

itstoolateforsnacks · 25/09/2026 22:58

Swing your sausage was very silly but a lot of fun at xmas!

Discobooloo · 25/09/2026 23:42

Sloths Vs Kraken. A card game but brilliant fun

Theunamedcat · 25/09/2026 23:58

missymousey · 26/09/2026 00:01

What age? We (9 year old and adults) like Splendor, Jaipur, Carcassonne, 7 Wonders Duel. 7 year old likes Carcassonne and First Stone Age.

Voiceofreason92 · 26/09/2026 02:09

all my kids love carcasonne- we had the junior version when they were younger and now
they love the older version. Our favourite game at the moment is chameleon. The box says age 14 but my 7,9 and 12 year olds all love it

Quidler? Exploding Kittens? Settlers of Catan (sp?)

grinandslothit · 26/09/2026 03:44

Exploding kittens is fun

Would agree with lots of the above. We enjoy Azul and Bohnanza although they are more thinking/strategy gamed rather than exciting fun if that makes sense.

The other game we love, which is definitely more exciting fun is the really nasty horse racing game. It's a staple of our Christmas, involves lots of cheering, shouting, music soundtrack from Spotify, backstabbing and chaos!

Xcellently · 26/09/2026 05:22

Burrito is brilliant for kids and adults. When we play we end up laughing hysterically.

WWomble · 26/09/2026 08:56

Qwirkle and Mexican Train Dominoes

The really nasty horse racing game is great
We bought it after playing it at a friend's but have never had chance to get it out as don't really have friends and family who want to play games
I'm looking forward to the day my daughter is old enough for it!

autumnalannie · 26/09/2026 09:00

How many people are playing? Carcassonne is a classic for a reason, Splendor is pretty short but definitely only 4 player. Harmonies is cute and animal ish. 7 wonders - don’t be put off by the box, it’s a good 7 player game.

for a bit of drawing silliness, we’ve enjoyed Flip Pick Towers, where you’re drawing a castle (with dragons, queens, kings and princesses, but also magic beanstalks) depending on what cards you draw. You could play fairly unlimited numbers for that. I’d say it’s for 8+ ages though.

Can you play burrito indoors? Is that the game where you throw them ? Don't things get knocked over, or do you throw very carefully.. thanks in advance

rainbowstardrops · 26/09/2026 09:18

Following with interest. A family of four adults here. Herd Mentality is good fun.

We play at the kitchen table. The burritos are very soft, we’ve never damaged anything.

VividDeer · 26/09/2026 09:23

Hues and clues is always popular when I introduce it to friends
Kids love chameleon
Traitors card game version

I looked at the Traitors game last year but didn’t buy it. Is it any good? I’m the only person here that loves watching it though.
