What board games are you buying this year? We have the classics, like Monopoly, guess who, Mouse Trap, Rummikub and some great ones we bought over the last few years like Ticket to ride, Triggle, Bananagrams.
Looking for fresh ideas! We prefer the shorter games to be honest!

Snakesss is good for all ages. We play it a lot.

Crack List is excellent but for older children.

Ticket to Ride is always popular in our house! As is Bananagrams.

We love hues and cues. Its great for mixed age groups and not too long to play.

I looked at the Traitors game last year but didn’t buy it. Is it any good? I’m the only person here that loves watching it though.

Someone told me the board game is difficult to play more than once.
We do the card game which uses a phone to be claudia (kind of)

If you have lots of people over at Christmas or want something quick try and high energy try card games/ small games like Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza, That's Not A Hat, Flip 7, Uno, Monopoly Deal, Anomia, Cobra Paw, Coup, Codenames, Chameleon, Poetry For Neanderthals.

For less people or something a little bigger try Hues and Cues, Forbidden Island, Pandemic, Boggle, Escape From Pompeii, Happy Little Dinosaurs, Skull, Secret Hitler, the Really Nasty Horse Racing Game.

Oh really? I’ll have to look into the card game, thanks!

Kingdomino

I spotted a Carcasonne Labyrinth game the other day, a combination of the two.

For kids, try Sushi Go, Colt Express and Coffee Rush.

Just came across this cool card game called Thrinta on Kickstarter! Looks like a fun one for game nights 😄

I’d second Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza and Herd Mentality. I also love Ghost Blitz for a quick fun game. For more of a strategy game - but with quite a quick play time - I’d recommend Coup. And I do think Articulate is hard to beat as a Christmas game!

ThereIsSomethingWrongWithTheLeftFilange · 09/10/2026 09:48

I agree with everyone saying Herd Mentality.

Our adult DD brought it with her for us to play last year at Christmas. We absolutely howled with laughter. Our faces hurt and we always bring this up now when we are together.

I do think you need to have the right people playing it though. I think it could potentially be a bit boring if you have lots of sensible people who all think the same. Luckily my DH is a hoot and has provided us with some comedy gold 😂

BelfastSmile · 09/10/2026 09:57

Carcassone is a good one and fairly easy to play. We like Patchwork, but it’s only 2 players. Railroad Ink is also good. Azul, although it’s a bit more strategic so it depends how much you want to think. Quacks of Quedlinberg is fun as well.

i guess it depends whether you’re looking for a party game for everyone to join in, or something quieter with a slower pace.

Quirkle, labrynth, taco cat goat cheese pizza, skyjo, pass the pigs

Cherryrainbow · 10/10/2026 23:11

Id recommend taco cat goat cheese pizza

We played it tonight (2 adults, 13, 12 and 6 year old) it was great fun.

Can anyone please recommend a game that is easy for someone visually impaired, I.e. don’t need to read from a card (not needing to write would also be good but not essential).

Herd Mentality worked well last year so something similar to that.
