I'm seeing a lot more 'giant' decorations in store this year. Does anyone have a plan?

B&M - Giant Gold Bell - £30 each:

There's no way that I would be buying any of the above, I don't have the room to display any of it for a start but I will make a point of going to B&M and Home Bargains on Monday just to have a look, have a good laugh and then carry on with my shopping elsewhere. 😆

Giant Nutcracker anyone? (Home Bargains)

Edited

I kinda need that rocking horse.

Waitingfordoggo · 16/10/2026 13:20

Why are you advertising all this stuff that’s shit for the environment? 😭

These companies are simply trying to offer something they haven’t offered before to give you FOMO so that you spend your hard-earned cash on huge amounts of cheap plastic, most of which will end up landfill in a very short space of time (because giant decorations will be out of fashion by next year and they’ll be trying to get you to buy something else).

I can’t believe people still fall for this.

dudsville · 16/10/2026 13:21

We decorate an outdoor tree, not big enough though for big baubles. Anyone else have the tall, thin Santa and snowman from John Lewis nearly 20 years ago? Slightly scandi rather than retro. I love getting them out!

Newusername2026 · 16/10/2026 13:58

Ninety quid. Flippin ,eck. What was that again about COL and families nowadays can't afford treats. Not to mention all that plastic which outlive all of us in landfill.

I've got some big baubles like that. Years ago there was a TV programme, might have been liberty or harrods at Christmas or something, and a lady that did all the decorated trees said a trick they use is to nestle big baubles back near the trunk to give depth, so that's what I do. She also could decorate a single tree in about 5 mins, she was very impressive!

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 18/10/2026 18:16

I really don't like the nutcracker things, they give me the heebie-jeebies

I'm ok with the nutcrackers, but you won't catch a gonk in my house ever!!! 😂

Horrible, all of it. I love Christmas but I don't think it needs pimped up any more.

Personally I'd like to see a national scaling back...a quality time over quantity spending approach. It'll never happen but I think it would be great. Take the stress off everyone.

Torchout · 18/10/2026 18:48

We have a giant functional ball bell ( like Santa's reindeer bells in. The Polar Express. We use it as a centrepiece ssurrounded by baubles of various sizes

Ludijo · 18/10/2026 18:51

Hideous. And where to store these monstrosities after Christmas? Assuming they are not just going to end up in landfill ..

FIFIBEBE · 18/10/2026 18:52

Has anybody watched Paul Moneypenny’s hauls with his mum Sylvia ? They empty shelves of this stuff.

Well I guess the inflatables aren't too bad - they will pack down pretty small. The big baubles though, you'd need a really big loft!

Nofeckingway · 18/10/2026 22:33

Only if I had a childcare facility would I get these . The wind and cold here would flatten those bad boys if I tried to put them outside . Or they would be adrift in the sky .

Nothing says Christmas like a giant dull gold cow bell with a red ribbon does it! 😂 £7.99 at Home Bargains!

I can see this one hanging off a farmer's gate. How sweet!

Really not for me at all, I find the “traditional” theme this year in B&M and Home Bargains tacky as hell but not in a good way! I prefer a kitsch style Christmas.

Thecows · 19/10/2026 13:08

So tacky and awful for the environment which the Op clearly doesn't give a hoot about.

Parky04 · 19/10/2026 15:24

On sale at Hilliers. It sings!
