If someone was to buy you a gift card, what one would you prefer?
Would you prefer somewhere you shop regularly or for more of 'treat yourself' place?

I'm trying to gather as many options as possible/the most popular!

Merry September!

@Cornishmumofone this is why book tokens are so good, they last for 8 years before expiring and if they do expire they will replace them for you!

I like a gift card for a meal somewhere local-ish.

Restaurant vouchers are risky in the current climate due to high risk of them going bust.

I'd choose M&S because I can just spend it on food if there's nothing else I want.

Not JL, I hardly ever shop there and wouldn't know where to start finding something to spend it on.

I only read on Kindle so wouldn't use a book token.

Itsu or Pret so I can buy nice lunches when I go into the office (which I do anyway, but this way I don't have to pay!)

I don't like gift cards, too limiting, much prefer cash. An Amazon card will get used at least so its the next best thing.

I'm not one for gifts though maybe I'm the wrong person to answer.

True and we have found that or theatre or show tickets very risky since Covid.
but that’s what I would like, given the choice.

We received a voucher for a meal when we got married and we just used it and it was lovely as we wouldn’t have actually visited otherwise.

Amazon, can basically buy anything or at worst, I can use it for bog roll and buy myself something with proper cash.

This is. What i give adult dc and their partners, they seem to appreciate and use them.

MsSquiz · 16/09/2026 10:53

Fenwick or a restaurant

Lomonald · 16/09/2026 10:54

I like M&S vouchers if I don't spend it on clothes I just spend it in the food hall usually things I wouldn't normally buy.

ProfessorRedshoeblueshoe · 16/09/2026 10:59

One year I bought my then teenage GS a wallet and put a few different cards in. He loved the Subway one, I think I also got him a Greggs one.

Lomonald · 16/09/2026 11:02

Oh last year our in laws got us pub gift card , it was a specific pub group, we used them for lunch and a bit of day drinking 😀

PearlsTeapot · 16/09/2026 20:39

Amazon always for me, for the books! Or M&S.

JoyChansey · 16/09/2026 22:14

Amazon gift cards are best.

You can just enter the number into your account, and the amount stays there until you spend it. Then you can bin the physical card away (unless you're given the code via e-mail).

It's also valid for 10 years, which is a lot longer than the others, so there's bound to be something to come up which I need to buy within 10 years!

DurhamDime · 16/09/2026 22:19

Amazon

Needmorelego · 16/09/2026 22:28

Waterstones
Lego Store
Costa/Cafe Nero/Starbucks
The Works
HMV

I usually get M+S !
Boring.....it ends up being spent on food.

Summersongroses · 16/09/2026 22:31

Amazon is my favourite just as you can pretty much buy anything. But also waitrose/johnnlewis. I got one last year and bought myself some lovely flowers that I’d never have treated myself to otherwise

You can spend JL vouchers in Waitrose as well

M&S

MsCrawford · 22/09/2026 19:14

For my local beauty/ spa place, it’s got everything from my hairdressers there to facials and massage etc. I’d pick there!

BeaLola · 22/09/2026 19:38

M&S if I send electronically to anyone as can buy flowers, clothing, food etc etc and long expiry period

John Lewis maybe

one 4All - NEVER - such a rip off - my son was given one for £15 - such a faff to use - I gave him the money and used the card in M&S

For a very dear friend I sent a Chanel voucher - enough so she could choose the perfume of her choice (I couldn’t recall whether she like Coco or Chance)

Hatty65 · 22/09/2026 19:46

I like a book token.

Failing that, an Amazon card because I'm fairly rural and if you buy me a Marks and Sparks voucher, or something similar I'm going to have to drive 35 miles to use it and it makes it a nuisance. The nearest John Lewis is probably 80 miles.

Amazon is much handier.

If someone gives you a M+S or John Lewis card you can just order something from their website for home delivery?
You don't have to go there.

YouBelongHere · 23/09/2026 11:16

Waterstones is my top gift card preference, followed by M&S - you can't beat the M&S foodhall 😅Amazon are okay too!

If being given a voucher I prefer it for a specific place, for example a good friend got me a voucher for a specific theatre which was far easier to use than the generic 'theatre tokens' which I found hard to spend. I need to be able to use it online or in person, the moment it says 'ring up and-' I immediately check out 😂
