Missing Christmas

Wow. I thought that now we're back to school and work for the past week, normality would resume, but nope. Its my ds2's birthday tomorrow, which were looking forward to. But I miss being off altogether, getting up when we want, going to bed when we want, eating and drinking rubbish, good movies lol I know there's a lot of ppl on MN who hate christmas. I don't love it as such but I love the atmosphere. I am soooo tempted to watch a Christmas film tonight 🤣

I miss it too! I’ve still got the decs up (probably till Candlemas), but the feeling goes away when life return to normal, doesn’t it. 😕

VillageFete · 12/01/2026 18:47

Oh i’ve come to this board looking for a thread like this.

What a miserable day it’s been! I feel so sad, I’m really missing Christmas today. The atmosphere, the lights and decorations, the fabulous food, the festive events!

I actually really like January, but I do miss Christmas and can’t stop thinking about all of the lovely things I want to do from November 1st.

Has anyone booked anything for Christmas ‘26 yet? We’ve booked the Polar Express.

MyFavouritePlace · 12/01/2026 18:50

I miss it too. Loved it being the 4 of us at home.
Now we're back to work, DD left for uni yesterday and DS is back to school. I'm counting down the days (years really) until retirement.
I've not booked anything yet for Dec 2026 but maybe that's the way to go!

VillageFete · 12/01/2026 18:54

I’ve just popped “Jamie cooks Christmas”
on in the background- all of his Christmas food looks delicious.

I’ve been thinking loads about Christmas ‘26, it seems to help. I’ve been thinking of what events we’ll do, where we’ll fit them in and how i’d like actual Christmas day to look this year.

I hate wishing my life away, I’m trying to soak every day up! But honestly I can’t wait for September to be here.

nickdrakeslovechild · 12/01/2026 19:03

Ooh me too! Christmas was a bit odd this year so want to have that Christmas feeling that I feel I missed this year. I've just started a thread for Christmas book recommendations.

Ithinkthisisthelasttime · 12/01/2026 22:32

I am the same! Today for munch my DS made pigs in blankets! It was just the 2 of us at home so it was nice to have a little christmas moment. DS is also a huge christmas lover so we have these little moments all the time and it really helps.

I also try and plan or make something for christmas when things are a bit glum. The Ber months are full of colour and fun, the January comes and it's dark and gloomy with nothing to look forward to.

VillageFete · 13/01/2026 10:27

Last night I found myself watching Christmas documentaries on catch up that i’d missed. Alpine hotel at Christmas, and London hotels at Christmas. I love stuff like that 🤣

I was thinking, I could watch a show or movie set at Spring/Summer/Autumn any time of year, so I can watch shows set at or around Christmas any time of year too

Yes, I've been thinking about this - I tend to save Christmas films and TV for the festive season, when inevitably I don't get round to watching them all. I think I might start letting Christmas trickle into other times of the year a little. 😄

Headed to this board for the same reason. Missing it so much and I’m not sure why! I do love Christmas but I’m usually ready to move on afterwards.

Stickytoffeetartt · 13/01/2026 15:57

Missing it here too! And all the time off & fancy food 😋

christmassaurus · 13/01/2026 18:12

Same! I'm now on the countdown to my return to work following mat leave and I wish we were back in festive fun

MissMarplesGoddaughter · 13/01/2026 18:12

I have booked a short break to malaga to see the Christmas lights instead of our usual Christmas market coach trip..... so ive ordered some Christmas t-shirts/tops in the sales instead of the usual jumpers.

Although the decorations are all down I have a white Twig type tree which stays up all year. I have decorated that with white snowy type decorations for this month, until my birthday, then I have some hearts for valentines day, welsh stuff for st davids day and then eggs, chicks and bunnies for eaaster. Not quite the same as Christmas though.... which is definitely my favourite.

I still have some sprouts in the freezer so might make a soup with some pigs in blankets too.

soccermum10 · 14/01/2026 18:25

Right, I'm having a long stressful week this week at work and it's only Wednesday 🤣 I'm now sat watching Arthur Christmas. I don't care anymore the Christmas films are coming back out 😆 I didnt get much time on the lead up to Christmas to watch very many. I might as well watch them now then 😆

I didn't get chance to watch Finding Father Christmas on Christmas Eve (Channel 4.) but watched it on catch up last week. It was quite sweet, I would recommmend it.

ETA: I should have said it's about a 16 year old boy that still belives in Father Christmas and sets out to prove his dad wrong when he tells him he doesn't exist.

butternut123 · 14/01/2026 20:22

Oh I feel the exact same way. I miss the glow of the Christmas lights, the decor, all being off work/school together and the run up to the big day.

we haven’t booked anything for next year yet but I have started buying Xmas Lego on Vinted for next Christmas for the kids, also been picking up a few Xmas decor bits in the sale; tablecloths, cushions etc. gone very 90s and vintage this year and bought a few more vintage items to go with that.

I love this thread. I'm missing it too! I've been doing some Christmas crafting to put away for Christmas 2026

I so loved Christmas this year - everyone here, having fun, all the yummy food.. It was such a success - I’m still enjoying reflecting on it.

Justmadesourkraut · 14/01/2026 21:17

Lol. I just got back from Sainsburys, and it just looked soooo dreary today Said to dh - it just needs some Christmas sparkle back. Even the vegetables looked happier at Christmas 🎄

I've done some watercolour easy images for Christmas cards and tags and I've started some really lovely felt ornaments and also started granny squares for a crochet blanket
