How bad will Aldi be on Monday?

bonesandbooth2025 · 20/12/2025 00:45

I nipped to Tesco today for milk and bread only to find complete and utter chaos

I can go to Aldi at 7am when they open or 9am and wondering which to do!

Apparently people were turning up to collect their turkey 2 hours before their collection slot in Waitrose this morning and getting arsey when they were told to come back at the correct time.

Stupid people wouldn't be able to park again for at least 4 hours too and only get 90 minutes in the car park😂.

ProfessorRedshoeblueshoe · 20/12/2025 18:20

I went to Aldi at luchtime today. It wasn't too busy.

gamerchick · 20/12/2025 18:23

I'd go early.

I went to marks and Spencers today and some bloke literally shoved me out of the way in the biscuit bit. People are scary this time of year.

DBD1975 · 20/12/2025 18:42

Tesco is open 24 hours, go late at night it will be empty.

CandyCaneKisses · 20/12/2025 18:48

I would avoid going first thing as everyone has the same idea.

I’ve been in Aldi, Lidl and Morrisons this afternoon and they were all very quiet but I noticed there was a few things out of stock. I’ve been shopping in stages like this to avoid one huge shop as I don’t think I could face it.

awrbc81 · 20/12/2025 21:37

I went food shopping today, Tesco and Lidl. Both just like any other Saturday which was a pleasant surprise as I thought it was going to be awful. I concluded lots of people might be planning to go tomorrow/Monday/Tuesday though so yeah might be busier on Monday!
I’d do 7am

Flooph · 20/12/2025 21:43

I work across several supermarkets for my job and across the board people are saying Tuesday is expected to be the busiest day. My team and I are all going into our first stores for 6:30am - shelves will have been restocked over night and it’s much less chaotic then it will be later on. Good luck! I have to goto 8 supermarkets across each day, and it’s going to be hell chaos!

whyaretheylikethis · 20/12/2025 21:47

I always go late night. So will be doing ours Monday night between 9-10pm. Always find shelves restocked and quiet!

Silvertulips · 20/12/2025 21:50

The butcher told me not to go Monday as that is collection day -

I think it’s hot and miss.

Anyone done M&S christmas eve? Wonder if it’s worth the effort

SnowTrouble · 20/12/2025 21:53

I nipped to Lidl at 1.30pm today expecting carnage and there was no queue at all - I had my choice of self scanners or 2 empty tills - and they were well stocked with all the 5p veg as well. M&S Food had a queue back onto the road though.

Nourishinghandcream · 20/12/2025 22:00

I was going to wander down to Sainsbury's Monday sometime as I thought it would be as good a day as any to get the "fresh". A 30-min walk (with bags) but I know parking will be horrendous and the entrance road gridlocked.😖

Drove down at 8pm tonight with the intention of just getting fuel but I noticed the carpark was almost empty so went in and got everything we need.
Shelves were well stocked and the veg all looked like it will be fine until the big-day.
Chatting to the cashier (remember them!) and she said it had been awful during the day but now it was practically deserted with another 2hrs opening time left.😃👍

No more shopping for us until after next weekend.😁🎄

Homegrownberries · 20/12/2025 22:02

I haven't seen any of that. Christmas isn't until Thursday and the Christmas shop takes up so much space. People must have huge fridges.

Our collection is sometimes booked for the 24th and I usually realise I’ve forgotten something. Never been too bad.

xmasstress12 · 20/12/2025 22:08

Never understood the need to buy 6 loaves of bread and extra cheese, you can bet your Christmas turkey that half of that will end up in the bin and they'll be in the shops on the 27th because they're bored

Surely you understand that people spend time with friends and family & cater for them? And then plenty of people don’t want to go near a shop for a few days. Why on earth would buying extra cheese mean you are bored on the 27th?

Misscoffee · 20/12/2025 01:08

I never understood the rush most shops are back open the next day.

If I need a food shop for Christmas Day items what good is it knowing the shops open after the day I need the stuff for?

Should have went earlier.

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 20/12/2025 22:45

I suppose for many it will be a combination of usual weekly shopping and their only chance to get their Christmas shop.

i think a 7am shop will be ok.

for me I do my Christmas shop on the 22nd every year, I’m actually free tomorrow but no way I’m going on a Sunday. I will stick to Monday, DH always has the dcs so I tackle it alone to get everything I need. We won’t be doing any other shopping until probably the 29th.

I’m talking hypothetically. I went Friday night

Upthenorth · 20/12/2025 22:46

Goodness where do people live?!

No madness in the shops here. However, I don’t go for the wild shopping spree. It’s just a roast dinner after all.

I couldn’t get any bagels with a shelf life later than Tuesday when I went yesterday so am trying tmw. Lots of stuff expires before the 25th.

This is what i say but get told off on mums net.
Its just a sundays roast with added veg tbh.

It’s worry the effort for food that’s heavily reduced because they can’t sell it over the following two days.

We don’t have a Tesco. I was in another town when I went to one

Monday at 7am as they will have full shelves as people refill them overnight. By 9am some of the shelves will be empty. I'm going first thing Monday to get my turkey crown. I will pop in for a breakfast at Spoons on my way home. I can never face the huge crowds later in the day at Aldi or Lidl.

Our fresh delivery isn’t coming in until 5am Monday and Tuesday morning so our shelves won’t be full until at least 8am because it takes a while to tip the lorry. I’d imagine it’s the same in lots of stores because logistically it’s impossible to deliver to all stores for the night shift to fill.

On another note Tuesday has been forecast as the busiest day so Monday might be the best bet.

Maybe it is basically a Sunday roast with added veg, but if you have guests staying for a few days that’s three meals a day for often several more people than you usually cater for. Then there’s things like extra desserts and treats plus a lot more fresh veg than many people usually have. Plus making sure there’s enough drinks that people will like. It’s always a massive shop for me (which is fine), plus like others I don’t intend to go back back to the shops until ideally New Year.
*edit: mis-spelled desserts!
