Where’s all the Marzipan??

I’ve tried a couple of my nearest supermarkets and there’s none! Considering the number of people I know who can’t stand it, who’s buying it all??

Yes, I know my cake should or could’ve been finished earlier but it was a last minute change of plan! It’s a bought rich fruit cake, already well fed with rum - but where oh where is the marzipan?

Hopefully it has been banned.

TheCurious0range · 18/12/2025 23:30

In the bin where it belongs!

We had to make ours last year because we left it too late to buy some.

We aren't being very helpful. Grin

Sorry @IsThisTheWaytoSlamMyPillow

Revolting stuff, but making your own isn't hard if you insist on making a fruit cake even less edible than they are without it.

I LOVE marzipan - greatly miss my late MIL yearly gift of marzipan fruit. There’s four different kinds at Tesco Extra near me.

BookShark · 19/12/2025 01:09

Hiding with the royal icing sugar? Waitrose had plenty of marzipan earlier this week, but I can't find royal icing sugar anywhere.

Fortunately I can't stand Christmas cake so I'm not bothered, but it's the one time of the year that DH bakes, so this is officially a disaster.

XelaM · 19/12/2025 01:15

I LOVE LOVE LOVE marzipan!! My daughter hates it though 😂 I thought she was weird but judging by this thread many people hate it

Carolenarua · 19/12/2025 03:26

I love marzipan, I don't understand the hate at all. I make my own and also roll it in balls and dip it in dark chocolate for mini treats. It's so easy to make- almond flour, icing sugar ,water and almond essence..

I was about to type the exact same thing!

Plinketyplonks · 19/12/2025 03:34

My whole family loves marzipan! I’m sure our Tesco had some, I pushed the boat out this year and got the proper stuff from Lubeck (niedrigger) to see if it makes a difference. Which reminds me to get on and do the cake this weekend!

How did it taste ?

Topseyt123 · 19/12/2025 04:00

I hope it has been binned, but fear it probably hasn't been.

My parents used to absolutely wreck a gorgeous rich fruit cake that my mother had made for Christmas by plastering on slabs of marzipan inches thick before icing it. I loved the fruit cake but wanted to peel the awful marzipan off. Horrible stuff, but they couldn't understand why I didn't go mad for it like they did.

I'd have loved the cake without the marzipan and with just a thin layer of icing.

Judyjudgesyou · 19/12/2025 04:06

The devil realised he'd been too mean inflicting it on us and took it all back to hell.

I've seen it in home bargains, b&m and Iceland this year. Last year Aldi and Lidl had loads of marzipan stuff like marzipan logs in different flavours and things that looked like round after eights that were different flavour marzipan covered in chocolate.

If you can't find it in any of those lakeland, especially online, usually have loads of options.

SareBear87 · 19/12/2025 04:07

Omg I love marzipan! I am in the minority but gladly will hoover up those who hate theirs 😂

I saw some in our local Lidl but as I’m the only one in our family who eats it I rarely now ever use it.

Potatoepatatoe · 19/12/2025 05:05

If for cooking, huge slabs of the stuff in ikea food section

Haha I was gonna say it’s burning in hell

Cando6 · 19/12/2025 05:10

The shops are super efficient now and stock is designed to sell out. Most marzipan will have been bought weeks ago.
I LOVE marzipan. Lidl stollen mini bites preferably 🤤

Glittertwins · 19/12/2025 08:18

I’m making marzipan to go the cake I bought.

Checknotmymate · 19/12/2025 08:20

I love marzipan. I can't buy it because I would just eat the entire block.
