Uneven amount of gifts! Help me

Statsquestion1 · 18/12/2025 17:51

I’ve gone and done it again…dd12 has 30 gifts and ds10 has 23 😅

I need to balance it out. (and no, I don’t want to take away seven of hers)

so far I’ve thought of
a rubix cube
a plain chocolate orange( I had an order age one but forgot he doesn’t like orange flavour!)
a fidget toy of some sort

hit me with ideas please…nothing too big and no major tat. I like useful gifts.

Air dry clay
Joke / puzzle / code book
annual like Beano or pheonix comics if they do one or weird but true
stationary thing like a sausage dog stapler (I got one from rex london) or daft sellotape dispenser
Grow cress potato head
Lunch box or water bottle
Unusual toothpaste or other toiletry like shower foam or bubble bath

Consider being more condescending next time, I don't think your tone here is nearly sneery and self righteous enough.

Not my intention at all. Just looking at making the process less complicated. We all get caught up in Christmas saying how much we have to do and how little time we have so I was providing reasons not to buy more stuff. You’ve added your own context as sneery, condescending and self righteous was the last thing I was thinking.

JillyGiraffe · 18/12/2025 21:48

Any educational stuff? Pencil case, stationery, notepads, books.
Maybe hat, scarf, gloves, pyjamas, slippers, socks, welly socks.
Board games, card games, console games.
Torch, mug, compass if he’s outdoorsy,
Lego
Clock
Shower gel, hair gel, aftershave?!
T-shirt, jumper
Football, rugby ball
Harmonica

Finger skate board

Backtorealityerr · 18/12/2025 21:49

I generally buy gifts for my children reflecting what they actually really want, not how many they open. I try to spend approximately the same amount on each child but from a very young age they understood that someone would have more presents than the other. Quality rather than quantity was my motto.

Gagamama2 · 18/12/2025 21:56

I have a DS10. Some things he is getting that I know he will be excited about:

This fidget, apparently all his friends are obsessed with them: https://amzn.eu/d/hXcqtGr

and this fidget set, his cousin has one and they are mesmerising to play with: https://amzn.eu/d/eokJx7k

Kids spent ages playing with one of these magnetic block spinners the other day: https://amzn.eu/d/glv6Alc

this puzzle set which is beautifully presented https://amzn.eu/d/iynrEba

articulate kids board game

My ds10 has some small boxes of lego, box of chocolates, selection box areos, roblox voucher, ps5 voucher, books, uno (they have loads of different ones), new bedding & led lights that go around his tv. Not sure if that helps!

Yeah as I said I don’t buy random tat…everything they have is useful, needed or wanted. So quality is my no1 and then quantity is because I get them a variety of bits. I don’t buy them things (except clothing) throughout the year really.

  • Guinness book of records
  • Puzzle book

Baby Jesus
Mary
Joseph
The three wise men
The three shepherds
Crib
Donkey
Oxen
Book about the meaning of the birth of Jesus/Christmas

10 for your son = 33; 3 for your dd = 33.

Are you and your DH called Mr and Mrs Dursley?

Edited

🤣 perfect.

Alpacajigsaw · 18/12/2025 22:37

Pack of cards
fluffy socks

Kickinthenostalgia · 18/12/2025 22:38

Ds17 has about 12 and dd13 about 20 because DS gifts are far more expensive. And he’s also 5 years older so has had 5 years worth of gifts more than her at the moment. Most kids at that age roughly know the value of money. If your feeling bad then pick up some more stuff… that’s all you can do really.

Teathecolourofcreosote · 18/12/2025 22:52

Neon colouring book with the pens
Melissa and Doug animal mosaic stickers
Smaller diamond dots set (key chain ones are good or the little ones in a frame - full canvas is too much)
The coloured pots of air dried clay are great.

I've never counted up the presents. No idea how many either of mine have or how it compares to each other. Now I feel I may need a list!

Mischance · 18/12/2025 22:54

One main present each plus two small things in a stocking. That'll do it. Thirty presents - for goodness sake!

purpleme12 · 18/12/2025 23:02

Well OP says she spends £600 at least...

RosesAndHellebores · 19/12/2025 00:02

The thing is £600 on 30 presents extrapolates to £20 per present. If there are a couple of more expensive gifts, there's an enormous amount of gratuitous crap in that pile. I find it horrendous.

OhSoSalty · 19/12/2025 00:06

If your buying for the sake of it what's the point?gifts are meant to be meaningful

WingsTingle · 19/12/2025 00:21

Group some of your DDs things?

so - notebook and wrapped together, for example, pairs of socks bundled rather than separate…etc

He has a PS but I’m avoiding getting him a game as a present because he will want to play it all day otherwise 😅

Oh my god this is evil. Buy that boy a game!!

caringcarer · 19/12/2025 00:24

Pokémon Uno.
Minecraft explorer card game.
Water bottle.

RosesAndHellebores · 19/12/2025 00:33

@Statsquestion1 £150 on a hairdryer for a 12 year old! I can't see a meaningful gift on that list. No books, no music, etc. It looks sad to me and you must have more money than sense.

WonderingWanda · 19/12/2025 00:41

Exploding Kittens or Taco, Cat, Goat, Cheese, Pizza.
One of those microwaveable heated plush toys.
Beanie hat and gloves
Tech Deck finger skateboard
Novelty pencil case.

She doesn’t like reading…it’s not her thing. And actually she has a puzzle book I forgot that. She has Apple Music on her phone…literally a world of music at her fingertips which she loves. She plays sports…one being one of the fastest field sport in the world, her team kit and gear bag is on there, that’s meaningful TO HER! I don’t give a hoot what you see!

Popping candy

I'll get my coat.

Not sure why you're getting much a hard time as you made your brief clear.

Thoughtsandprayers · 19/12/2025 08:00

I could have done with this thread a couple
of weeks ago-really struggled to buy for 3 dgc’s-even their parents were out of ideas!

However one would love the cat origami & paint by stickers. Will squirrel away these ideas for birthdays.
