Uneven amount of gifts! Help me

I’ve gone and done it again…dd12 has 30 gifts and ds10 has 23 😅

I need to balance it out. (and no, I don’t want to take away seven of hers)

so far I’ve thought of
a rubix cube
a plain chocolate orange( I had an order age one but forgot he doesn’t like orange flavour!)
a fidget toy of some sort

hit me with ideas please…nothing too big and no major tat. I like useful gifts.

Socks, definitely. Who doesn't need socks?
Post-it notes
Smarties

If he has a ps5 what about some gamer headsets (god send in our house), you can also get character stands/holder for the pads and a good storage case for the games

Read the OP, I’m not doing that!

I did read it. I’m just suggesting the solution because it’s
a. less stressful
b. Cheaper
c. Fairness over excess
d. Not overindulging
e Reducing clutter
f focus 9n the meaning of Christmas rather than quantity of gifts
g they’re presumably getting gifts from others too
h simpler option

Take seven from DD and keep them for their birthday. Problem solved.

OP said she wouldn’t do that

Sunshineclouds11 · 18/12/2025 18:20

strip light for his round his ceiling

He’s a bit young for Lynx or hair gel? Boxers? Go to somewhere like Waterstones and look at the small gifts at the cash desk.

BellRock1234 · 18/12/2025 18:21

Could you combine some of your DDs stuff into bundles to reduce the overall number, if the value is the same? E.g. a craft bundle, toiletries bundle, etc rather than individual bits.

luckylavender · 18/12/2025 18:22

DC used to love getting Blu Tak for Christmas.

Ineffable23 · 18/12/2025 18:23

I can see 23 Vs 30 would be noticeably different but surely 27 Vs 30 wouldn't be? Because you'll have presents from grandparents etc etc too so you won't notice just a couple of presents difference?

Rituelec · 18/12/2025 18:23

This is when I add things like:

Slime
Cheap nerf
Blanket
Slippers
Annual
Board game
Pj's
Desk games
Bop it
Chocolate
Selection boxes

Etc

You can get mint chocolate oranges now

Yes I love them…so does my dd (I got her two!) but alas he does not (he’s so fussy 😩)

He has these. They do have a lot. You wouldn’t think I only buy at Christmas and birthdays but they really really look after their things. They only get rid of things when they are outgrown or broken beyond repair.

Moon Ball
Olly Ball
Yoyo
Frisbee
LED strip lights
Banangrams/Dobble (on offer at Amazon)
Slime
Fun shower gel
Can/bottle of favourite fizzy drink
Tube of Pringles

Millionaura · 18/12/2025 18:29

My 12 year old son really wants a 3d pen. Not sure if they are any good but Amazon can do next day delivery.

Whizzywhisk · 18/12/2025 18:29

30 gifts, wowzers

gucciandscandal · 18/12/2025 18:30

Fidget toy/squishy, puzzle, books, those blind bag/box type things for Minecraft or Mario or whatever he’s into, colouring pens or posca pens, pokemon cards

But really will they count? DD has loads more presents than DS because he has a switch2 in his gifts and she doesn’t have anything as expensive in hers.

No they won’t count but now that I know I can’t help but even it out 😅

If he likes Uno then there are a myriad of variants - Flip, Extreme, Teams

Twinkletwinkly · 18/12/2025 18:35

Are there any unisex gifts in your daughter’s pile that you could relabel for your son to balance things out?

MyUmberOrca · 18/12/2025 18:35

I also like to keep it even but I just wrap things together or separately to adjust the numbers. Eg wrap 3 nail varnishes up together or as 3 separate parcels

I fill in a spreadsheet of what I've bought as I go. I find that helps a lot

MaybeItsTimeForMeNow · 18/12/2025 18:37

Bakugan? There are some for £2.50 at the entertainer.

MaybeItsTimeForMeNow · 18/12/2025 18:38

Teaandscone · 18/12/2025 19:05
