We have some family friends who have done a lot for us in the past year and we’d like to buy a Christmas/ thank you gift for them.

The problem instant I don’t know them that well on a personal level- more of a chat at family parties etc. They are in their early 70s and love to entertain.

Booze would go down well but they have a fully stocked pub in their garden (not just a garden bar!) so they have everything.

They’re also going away for a month on Boxing Day so anything perishable is no good. Can anyone help!

Budget up to £100ish.

TIA!

Marks and Spencers gift card.

Peclet · 17/12/2025 07:58

Is there a really nice place for lunch near them? Voucher for there.

Really nice throw/blanket for their “pub” garden

Premierinnok · 17/12/2025 08:05

Voucher for a really nice restaurant local to them

or John Lewis voucher

Kamek · 17/12/2025 08:09

What about a voucher for an experience company like red letter days or similar. Then they can choose something they'd like to do.

Christmaseree · 17/12/2025 08:09

Euros, dollars or currency for wherever they are going. I’ve given that a few times and it’s always gone down well.

MJOverInvestor · 17/12/2025 08:15

An unusual vermouth and/or Glen Feshie single malt bourbon cask…

Twiglets1 · 17/12/2025 08:17

I also think a voucher - maybe for a nice restaurant or spa in the area so they can treat themselves when they come home.

Brindisa hamper?

Forgottenmyphone · 17/12/2025 08:26

Fondue kit. Hotel Chocolat do a nice chocolate one.

Mulledjuice · 17/12/2025 09:41

Does their pub have a name?
Personalised bar mats or tea towels for the pub?

Jugendstiel · 17/12/2025 09:43

Lighting. A beautiful lamp or outdoor lighting for the bar area would be a great gift and you could get something very nice for £100.

Brindisa hamper?

That’s what I’d picked but DH said he thought it was more summery!

Give them some currency for where they are going on holiday

Jiski · 17/12/2025 14:46

Can you get them some foreign currency if they’re going abroad? Tell them to have a meal on you…

mezlou84 · 17/12/2025 14:53

Asda etc gift card, don't know anyone who would turn down a free shop.
Local restaurant gift card / voucher
Murder mystery night at a hotel.
Tickets to see a show

123ZYX · 17/12/2025 14:54

Is there somewhere near them that does a “make your own gin” experience or similar? I’m aware of a couple of distilleries that do it in different parts of the country. That way they could make their own gin to serve in their bar

Imtoooldforallthis · 17/12/2025 14:56

How about ingredients for a cocktail. Maybe a Negroni which is Gin, Campari and Vermouth. Pack in a nice basket with a printed recipe.

Imtoooldforallthis · 17/12/2025 14:58

Or a Hugo Spritz, Prosecco, Elderflower liquer and a posh soda syphon.

Starlight1984 · 17/12/2025 15:00

Restaurant voucher
Theatre voucher
A bottle of good single malt whisky (I know you say they have a bar but everyone appreciates a decent bottle if they like a drink!)

Also agree with the ETO Wine Decanter 😍

Not at all! There are some lovely bar-type snacks in there!

Do you have an Everyman cinema near you? Really comfy cinema with sofas and table service for food and drinks. They sell vouchers.

Or Picturehouse … their cinemas are very appealing too with an upmarket feel & selling nice food & wine and comfy seats and it feels a treat going to one.

Very different to the local Odeon.

We send out food hampers and they are well received. The m&s ones are delivered by dpd. They also do fruit baskets.
