Massive longshot.

I have found something that my son (who is impossible to buy for) but it is is Mableton, GA.

The seller has said they would express deliver it but it is going to be nearly 100$ for postage, and that's before any customs for a 30$ item.

Just on the long shot that any MNetters are coming over if I got it delivered to them in the US and then paid for UK postage

Or if anyone knows if I can find a UK one of the below

Sorry don't know how to do nice links.

Thanks for reading.

No help, but it's lovely!

PermanentTemporary · 16/12/2025 12:00

I’m really sorry but if my ds wanted to do this for someone I would advise him not to.

PerrinGreen · 16/12/2025 12:12

I’m sure you’re genuine OP but no one who doesn’t know you should do this. When they get to check in they will be asked if they packed their bag themselves and if anyone asked them to take anything…at which point the package will be taken. Internationally taking a package for someone met on social media is an entirely daft way to spend Christmas in a cell.

CallingAmerica · 16/12/2025 12:13

@TokyoSushi great name for the subject matter!

@PermanentTemporary why out of interest. The risk is mine to lose the cost of the item, but I've seen some amazing things on MN over the years, I've swapped football stickers in the past on here, which I know isn't the same but many people are really kind.

OP posts:
Beekman · 16/12/2025 12:14

i know your intentions are more than likely honorable, OP but you shouldn’t ask anyone to carry anything overseas for you.

Anyone thinking about doing anything like this, just don’t.

But it is from a third party - there are lots in the US, could choose any seller on eBay (or in a store) that is no different to buying anything.

I appreciate people might not want to do it, but imaging drugs via an item from eBay is a bit of a jump

OP posts:
Beekman · 16/12/2025 12:16

It could be literally anything. They’ve only got your word for it in the first place that it is actually an item from e bay.

I’m sure you’re not that naive, OP

You just gonna have to pay the postage

seasally · 16/12/2025 12:19

Gosh I can't believe all these responses, it's quite simple to open up the package and see it's a bowl or are you all thinking they will just bring the box unopened?

Greenfinch7 · 16/12/2025 12:20

I have done this for someone on Mumsnet before, but this time I am not coming till January- sorry not to be able to help. I hate all the unnecessary fear over things like this, which makes people suspicious and unkind. It is easy to tell the difference between a ramen bowl and a pack of drugs, folks-

I can’t believe anything thinks this is reasonable request, quite frankly. Are we supposed to lie when asked if we’re carrying anything for anyone else?

Ask the seller to use ParcelMonkey and see how much it will cost to send directly to the UK. I’m sure it will be a lot less than $100

PermanentTemporary · 16/12/2025 12:43

Yes I’m sorry I have been on MN for a couple of decades and have done present swaps, meet-ups etc including meeting people last year, but taking things internationally for someone would be a red line for me, I just don’t know enough about the possible pitfalls. Apologies.

Presumably this American person has eyes and can see that it's a bowl! If she was asking them to bring in chalk/talc/other white powder then sure, but a bowl!

Maybe I am naive but I'm really surprised by these comments - there would be a receipt from the eBay seller, I would be happy to pay the eBay seller and then the person contact eBay with their address.

I didn't think it was a likely option due to logistics, but a boxed ramen bowl from a seller on eBay is hardly breaking bad.

AleynEivlys · 16/12/2025 13:14

My brother's wife is American. They live in the UK but do visit her family over there. I've done this three times - all things off eBay, never any issue, just had them sent to her parents and they then brought them back for me. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Beekman · 16/12/2025 13:50

There’s a bit of a difference between (for example) “Can someone bring me over a Trader Joe’s tote” and “Can someone bring a parcel over that someone else will send to your home address”, don’t you think? Also different for family members rather than complete strangers, I often bring over stuff for family.

Yeah, but from eBay...not from an unknown, mysterious source! The person can buy direct from eBay/choose the eBay seller so they know it's coming direct from eBay.

Mumsnet sways anxious, understandably. It does mean that paranoia can be off the charts though! It's often based on the first few posts, if they're jumpy it sets everyone else off.

Does it absolutely have to be that particular one? There are some gorgeous ones on Etsy.

This particular one he would absolutely love.

It just ticks all the boxes, I found it by complete accident - might have to give it for a birthday present instead, and pay for slower mail. Just thought it was worth a post.

Just one last bump, in case anyone is travelling and doesn't think I'm a drug smuggler.

My parents are in the US and I do get it, but at this stage I’ve given up trying to get things to them and them to us as customs, postage, and everything else is just a massive PAIN and this won’t be any different.

what do you like about the bowl; can we find you something else similar? My DD is ramen mad (annoyingly so) and I had her a bowl from a U.K. based company, hand made.

would something like this work? Ours had one chopstick hole but much the same idea. https://canterburypottery.com/shop/product/ramen-bowl-with-chopsticks/

Thanks @Mykittensmittens I feared that might be the case. Such a shame.

Unfortunately it is this bowl, the exact one, which he would love. It is Ed Hardy, I have no idea who this person is (or if they exist) but he would love it.

Just get regular postage - it’s £50 all in them so what if it arrives a couple days late?
I one should be a courier for anyone.

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 16/12/2025 23:34

It would probably be safe to bring it over, just like if you drive half a mile it is probably safe not to use your seat belt, but it’s just not worth the risk.

I’d pay the postage, then it will include insurance etc I think.
