Massive longshot.

I have found something that my son (who is impossible to buy for) but it is is Mableton, GA.

The seller has said they would express deliver it but it is going to be nearly 100$ for postage, and that's before any customs for a 30$ item.

Just on the long shot that any MNetters are coming over if I got it delivered to them in the US and then paid for UK postage

Or if anyone knows if I can find a UK one of the below

Sorry don't know how to do nice links.

Thanks for reading.

Absolutely lovely bowl but a, would need to be in hand luggage bubble wrapped to heck to avoid breakages, and b, everything everyone else has said here.
Plus your kind courier would need to boil it to sterilise it. Imagine if the seller has been using it to store drugs and there’s a sniffer dog on duty on arrival? 😱😂

GellerYeller · 16/12/2025 23:43

I accept I’ve leapt to absolute worst case scenario there!

It is bordering on paranoia!

If you bought something from a Christmas market or in a charity shop here would you boil and sterilise it before travel? Or from any ebayer?

This is a bowl in its original pacy, available from a variety of ebayers, the one who I linked has nearly 10,000 feedback.

I'm going to purchase it and send via the slow post, that will still double the price of the item, but I can not stretch or justify paying anymore to get it before Christmas. Was worth a try though.

I’m sure you’re genuine OP but no one who doesn’t know you should do this. When they get to check in they will be asked if they packed their bag themselves and if anyone asked them to take anything…at which point the package will be taken. Internationally taking a package for someone met on social media is an entirely daft way to spend Christmas in a cell.

Was just coming on here to say the same thing. No one is going to bring an object from a stranger through airline security! I wouldn't do that for any stranger!

lifeisgoodrightnow · 17/12/2025 09:12

Absolutely no one should carry a parcel for a stranger it’s got ‘drugs mule’ written all over it

You can’t really call someone following airport and security advice ‘ridiculous’ just because you have to pay to get your Christmas presents to their destination, come on.

To be fair if you watch Border Security you might be wary. There have been many cases on that were the drugs are actually in the clay of statues etc, Equally I watch an episode recently where there were jeans and they had been soaked in some form of liquid drug.

I can- I only asked I here, I don't expect anyone to do it, I just thought it worth a punt.

It is ridiculous, because it isn't a specific item, there are many listed in the US, they could even buy the item themselves from any of the eBay listings.
The risk here is for me, because I would be sending the money in blind faith, not knowing if they purchased it or not.

On this neurosis any item that anyone purchases could be drugs- it just isn't realistic.

That buying directly from a seller of their choice on eBay is dangerous?

Have a think about it- how is that risky?

Sensible people get scammed every day in a variety of new ways.

Thankfully, posters here are stating the considerable risks for those who might not be aware.

You getting salty about it is…a choice.

I'm not salty 😂 I just feel sorry for people that live their life in constant fear.

I wouldn’t say anyone who has posted here is living in ‘constant fear’, I just think they’re pointing out the result of this going wrong.

However, I will claim that for myself, I have a constant fear of ending up in jail for doing stupid shit, so therefore I don’t do stupid shit 🤷‍♀️.

Anyway, I hope your nephew loves the bowl, it’s beautiful.

Merry Christmas.

notimagain · 17/12/2025 14:23

It's not a case of people living in fear.

I think it is much as a case of people not wanting to have to lie at check-on or to TSA if they get asked one of the standard security questions: "are you carrying anything for anybody else", or suffer the possible consequences if they are honest and answer "yes".

I don’t live my life in constant fear because I don’t make stupid choices and I pay for decent postage myself.
