Light inexpensive cologne for 11 year old?

DS11 is desperate for cologne, I know nothing about this and don’t have much sense of smell to check them out in a shop!
Any recommendations? I’m thinking something fresh/light that he can just spritz on for parties/going to dinner so he feels grown up.

At that age I’d be buying something from a supermarket perhaps. I personally have Lidl perfume for day to day

ToadyPoady · 07/12/2025 07:45

Agree with the last poster, Lidl aftershaves are about £5 and perfect for that age group.

I also read that Firetrap at Home Bargains is nice so I’ve bought my almost 11 yr old a gift set with three small bottles to try.

Chalices · 07/12/2025 07:46

Zara ones are great, highly recommend.

Muddywelliescleansocks · 07/12/2025 07:46

Go to Boots or Superdrug. Adidas do an eau de toilette called Ice Dive available on Amazon. Lynx products good at that age.

replay2025 · 07/12/2025 08:09

Firetrap is nice and they do a few fragrances. Boots sell a nice gift set with shower gel, cheap too.

Primark do a men’s sport one - bought it for my 14 year old last Xmas and it’s surprisingly nice! Only about a fiver too 👍🏻

PerditaNitt · 07/12/2025 10:45

Zara is a good option

if you want to get a branded one, then CKOne is often on offer and a small bottle can be quite cheap.

FunnyOrca · 07/12/2025 10:48

He might not like it, but the Nivea cologne is very light. My husband wears it to work as it creates a freshness without smelling strongly like cologne, so not distracting.

TheChosenTwo · 07/12/2025 10:50

Another vote for a Zara one, they’re pretty cheap so it budget allows I’d pick up a couple. Smell is so subjective.
Ds has had a Zara one in his stocking for the last couple of years.

You can get Ted Baker ones from Supersavers for a tenner. They are nice and not too overpowering.

TheGrimSmile · 07/12/2025 11:03

Supersavers also have CK One for 20 quid. They are definitely the cheapest place to buy men's smellies.

Pr1mr0se · 07/12/2025 11:05

Ted Baker fragrances from Boots if you don't have a supersaver shop.

Saisong · 07/12/2025 11:19

My DS started out with a Tommy Hilfiger one, which is actually very pleasant. I liked the fact the bottle and packaging is very straightforward - not too cheap and generic looking, not obviously catering to kids and also not heavily masculine.
He has since acquired some of the Ted Baker ones.

At that age the brand will be important. Get something with a name he knows ...not Lidl! Ckone or Tommy Hilfiger are good ideas!

Moonlightfrog · 07/12/2025 12:33

B&M have a few good ones for very little money. I think the one I bought was called ‘poison’,guessing it’s a dupe, it smelt pretty good for £3.99.

Agree. Do NOT get Lidl or Aldi - even if they smell nice, that's not the point.

slipperypenguin · 07/12/2025 13:28

Blue jeans is a good starting one for that age, or ted baker do some for £10 in Superdrug that DS liked at that age

Mollywasasinger · 07/12/2025 13:41

Thanks all :)

Mine both like the Next ones. They don't care about the brands though they're more about having a decent long lasting smell so it might depend on the child!

Totally agree - at the moment my 10 year old has no interest in brands! I’m sure it won’t stay that way for much longer.

khfippjjj · 07/12/2025 14:42

I got DS Tommy Hilfiger, it’s only about £20.

baubletime · 07/12/2025 17:25

Next or Zara. As a gift I think Lidl or Aldi is a bit naff I’m afraid.

user2848502016 · 07/12/2025 17:37

Next ladies perfumes are good and reasonably priced, I’d have a look at their men’s range

Blueuggboots · 07/12/2025 21:26

Savers do some great ones! I noticed Benetton hot in there recently…I used to love that!

UntamedShrew · 07/12/2025 21:29

The Body Shop has a nice blue one.
