Help for nearly 17 year old boy presents

He’s only got 3 so far (2 items of clothes and a book) and his sister has quite a few more. It’s going to look unbalanced so I really need a few ideas if possible? He likes the gym and gaming but doesn’t need anything for them and he’s at college but doesn’t need anything there either. Really stuck. He doesn’t know what he wants either!

I got my boy a comedy fake Lego set of a dinosaur as he used to love them. He’ll get a lush bubble bar, and aftershave type thing, tickets to a gig and the bands t shirt. Plus a book a jumper and some stocking fillers. Oh and some phone chargers as he keeps losing them!

queenofthebongo · 03/12/2025 11:11

Oh and then we always get family games and a bed for his cat! 😹

SleepsAPriority · 03/12/2025 11:27

My son is of similar age to yours and I agree it’s a difficult task finding suitable presents.

Last year, I booked sessions with a gym personal trainer (1 pw for a month) and my son he loved it. As your son likes the gym, he may too. Mine came away with great knowledge as well as becoming stronger. In between sessions he’d practice what he was taught. It showed our interest in his passion for fitness and strength too.

Do you know which game he likes to play? My son is also a gamer and I found he appreciates receiving a gift card specifically for it, to buy new skins or whatever. Amazon has a range, it’s where I found the one for Valorent.

Oh! and a mini fridge for his bedroom! Gamers tend to spend a lot of time in their room, drinks in tap works a treat!

Good luck!

Kneeslikethese · 03/12/2025 11:43

Water bottle for the gym?
Mine is 16 - lego car, aftershave, vinyls, Xbox steering wheel, gear stick and pedal set he asked for to help prepare him for driving lessons.

Pinkflower100 · 03/12/2025 11:45

Thanks. I will look into some of these. Some he’s already got but appreciate the ideas!

Expansion pack for Cards against humanity
A "manly" nail grooming set
Boxers/socks/lynx/phone chargers

Minikievs · 03/12/2025 12:01

Razor set

Teenage boys are so hard to buy for

Pinkflower100 · 03/12/2025 12:11

They are def so hard to buy for. Doesn’t help when they don’t know what they want either!

My Godson is a similar age - turning 16 this month - and he likes cinema vouchers. There's a VUE near us and he can take the train so his parents don't have to chauffeur.

I found a “notorious serial killers” card game in the Black Friday sales that I bought my 17 year old (he has a dark sense of humour) as a stocking filler. I’m struggling though - so far I’ve got him:

a new water bottle (a specific one he asked for)
socks (boring but he said he needs some)
the cards mentioned above
A game he asked for called Horrible Therapist
A couple of selection boxes

I will be getting some funny t-shirts and some plain ones, a desk foot exercise bike type thing he’s asked for, new boxers, lynx set, a chocolate orange and some cash. I’m going shopping in person this weekend so I’m hoping for inspiration there as Amazon isn’t helping at all this year! He’s mentioned Steam is releasing something next year (some gaming thing) so he is hoping for money towards that.

MissBattleaxe · 03/12/2025 12:37

Mine's into skin care so I've got him nice anti bac washes and those nose strips for blackheads- He loves them! The Fragrance Shop does a Tom Ford Discovery set for £30.

slipperypenguin · 03/12/2025 13:06

Yeh I’d say an aftershave and maybe a no7 skin set / face wash set from boots, maybe stocking fillers could be like deodorant and hair gel

Pinkflower100 · 03/12/2025 17:09

I was just looking at massage guns online for using after the gym. Anyone tried one? Wondering if he’d use it or if it will just clutter up his room.

I feel your pain! My daughter will be 15 on Saturday and my son is 13 just after Christmas. I’ve been going through all the things I’ve got for them sorting them for birthday/christmas/stocking etc. I have soooo much more for my daughter than my son as she is so easy to buy for.

My son is into gaming and sport but has most things he needs.

I’ve got him smellies, phone power pack, pyjama bottoms, slippers, lots of golf related things like base layer, gloves etc, I always get some useful bits like new stationary for their stockings, selection box, multipack of hot chocs.

I like the idea of the Tom Ford fragrance set, might look into that. I usually get them a Starbucks or Nando’s voucher or something.

Tulipvase · 03/12/2025 17:50

Mine is 17. He works part time so buys a lot of things himself. He’s had money already for a trip and I’ll prob give him some more. He has asked for a classic Casio watch though.

Liissey0710 · 03/12/2025 17:51

BeaLola · 03/12/2025 18:18

I too feel the pain for DS17 - we have a birthday and then Christmas - boys and then men are hard to buy for as either it's very expensive or they have no idea (looking at you DH)

However he does love getting an aftershave - has a few but still loves getting them - Eau Sauvage, Bleu, Jo Malone coupled with a M&S one that he loves but I can't recall name of

He likes black Nike socks
Loves the big Galaxy chocolate bar
Weird one but he loves a particular type of toothpaste from Aldi so I get him a couple for his stocking

He has gone off branded gym wear apart from socks) but he does like a voucher to spend whilst at college so I have put either £5 or £10 on a couple for him eg Greggs, Tescos (he likes the meal deal) and Subway

A snuggle hoodie thing that is very soft

M&S Christmas pjs

Usually godfather buys him a specific gaming card with money loaded for skins etc or buys him Spotify Premium

Spray deodorant

Badedas (£2:99 in Home Bargains)

Wallet
