Christmas stocking and gifts for 9 and 10 year old girls

I’ve just agreed to foster 2 girls from tomorrow for the next few months. They have very little at home so I don’t need to worry about duplicating things, and while I will try to find their preferences my experience is children in this situation are often too overwhelmed to do a Christmas list and there isn’t much time.

What are your tween girls asking for this year? What cute stocking fillers have you found? I live in a city so will be visiting Kenji, Flying Tiger and Sostrene Green but otherwise I’m stumped. And where is good for clothes for this age group? ( I usually foster older teens)

budget about £300 each and £70 for stocking

Thank you

Jellycat toys are all the rage at the moment . Also I remember my Dd at that age like Hollister clothing or maybe a hoody from somewhere like White Fox which seem to be very fashionable with tweens and early teens.
Maybe some Lego of some description to keep them amused. At that age I still think colouring pens and nice arty colouring books can be good .
For stocking shower crème is quite fun, Sundae or actually Boots do a cheaper one called Daisy which Dd 18 prefers.
Victorias secret body sprays , I also still put in the usual chocolates, bottle of Matey bubble bath.
Good luck - it’s an amazing thing you’re doing 🥰

It has a lot for tweens and young teens as well.

How lovely of you to do that. My DD is of similar age. Some of the things she has
chocolate santa
fluffy socks
bubble bath
cute notebook
Christmas legami pens (big with her age group)
hair accessories
jellycat keyring
Card game (Uno/Dobble)
coin purse
Tangle teezer brush
Mug with her initial on it
christmas drinking glass
water bottle

Mine of that age is really into wicked and k pop demon hunters.

Loves drawing and crafting. Likes playing Minecraft and Roblox.

She is getting Minecraft and Wicked Lego, a KPop Tshirt, a couple of books, and air dry clay.

Her stocking has sticki rolls, origami, wicked sheet mask and lip balm, a fidget toy, lots of sweets and chocolate, a torch, pants, socks, k-pop hairpiece, claw clip, a shower cap.

My 9yr old dd loves babies, barbies and cuddly toys but is also edging towards make up etc.
A lot of fostered/adopted children have sensory needs so maybe some play doh or kinetic sand would be a good idea?
My dd also loves the colouring books that have very easy to colour scenes of life eg a young woman reading on her window seat etc(sorry cant think of the name)
Plus bath bombs, lip balms, body washes and perfumes.
Have a lovely christmas

I need to not read these lists as I keep seeing more things she’ll love 🫣

Stranger Things themed pop tarts
Starbucks £10 gift card

Main gifts
a Jellycat
Sol De Janeiro set
Laniege lip balm set
a denim skirt
Ariana Grande Cloud perfume set
a hair dryer
a personalised mug
1% club board game

Tryingatleast · 03/12/2025 07:05

I always recommend kinetic sand (not the rock!)

spirograph, dobble, bop it, teddies, books, beano annual

CarlaLemarchant · 03/12/2025 07:09

Oh for clothes. New look, H and M, Shein, Zara and Next are all fine. Mine isn’t fussed by clothing labels yet (beauty brands are a different matter though 😏)

I would try and find out their interests for a “doing toy” e.g Lego, art set etc
a nice hoody and maybe Nike pro’s or baggy jeans
jellycat
nice shower crème, smellies sets from boots
jewellery
fluffy socks and pj’s
nike socks
board game
puffer tote bag
ugg dupes
books (my DD loves lottie Brookes)
sol de Janerio purfume (or dupes of)

Rainbow898 · 03/12/2025 07:15

i have two girls ages 9 & 10 and gifts I’ve bought as they’ve both asked for/ know they’ll love:

white fox hoodie
stanley cup
converse trainers
nike pro leggings (just for older)
Light draw bow (older)
3D pen (younger)
Mini brand fridge & balls
lottle brooks books
Tatabu
Lego
heatless curlers

Strollorweight · 03/12/2025 07:24

Wait for them to actually arrive

so you can tailor presents to them individually

Strollorweight · 03/12/2025 07:26

They may be completely indifferent to clothing but LOVE craft.

They may hate craft but LOVE sport

They may LOVE lego but HATE reading

make it special to them as individuals

QuietLifeNoDrama · 03/12/2025 07:35

Some great ideas on here but I’d hang on with some of the more personal stuff until they get here if you can. It may mean a last min Amazon order or trip to the shops but it will mean more if you actually know them. If they spend most of their time in black wearing t shirts with skulls on (like my niece) then she’s going to be very uncomfortable with a nice fluffy jumper from next. My DD loves rocks and science kits but other kids would think that was odd/ boring. Have a list of potential things in mind then hit the shops once you’ve figured out what they’re in to.

Legami erasable pens and the bear colouring pencils for stockings. A pop-out pencil case could be a good idea too, Smiggle do them as do a few other places. Fun lip balms that are scented like sweets. Fluffy socks and chocolate coins are essential stocking fillers IMO. Key chain in stocking if you want to get them the lockable diary idea below!

Gem dig kit? Scratch art? Colouring books? Double sided markers ‘artist’ type ones? Maybe The Dork Diaries(10yo) and Diary of a Wimpy Kid (9yo) books sets? Photo creator camera looks pretty cool. Could get a refill too. Pretty notebooks and pens. A lockable diary.

I have 9 and 10 year old girls - I would advise keeping piles very similar / same. My two are sort of like twins and want everything the other has! Obviously books they can borrow from each other, but if getting one a book set I would get other one too.

BurntOrange · 03/12/2025 08:41

My nearly 10 yr old is having the following in her stocking:

Chocolate coins
Chocolate Father Christmas
Haribo selection pack
Smiggle pop out pencil case
Fidget cube
2 litre bottle of Vimto
Popout game
Animal Crossing Calendar
Swizzels lip balms
Harry Potter reading light
Hot chocolate bomb
