Christmas morning breakfast

It's just DH and I. We usually have smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, with bagels and bucks fizz (we go visiting from mid-day - all in walking distance so no driving!).

Would like something different this year so looking for some ideas please 😋

Toast/pastry/bagel and coffees during present-opening around 7am.

Bacon/smoked salmon, avocado, scrambled eggs, about 10.30am, with Buck’s Fizz

Nibbles (in lieu of a starter) from 1pm, with sherry

Xmas dinner about 4pm, with all the wine

Ophy83 · 02/12/2025 13:08

We usually have scrambled eggs and smoked salmon as it is yummy and takes no advance preparation, but occasionally - if not too busy on Christmas Eve - I make cinnamon rolls. Slow prove in the fridge overnight and then bake in the oven first thing.

VillageFete · 02/12/2025 14:22

What a lovely thread. Howled at the cereal with Bailey’s instead of milk 😂

I go to a posh, French patisserie at the crack of dawn on Christmas Eve and buy a load of stunning pastries in all kinds of fabulous flavours. We have those on Christmas morning with coffee, and bucks fizz (Made with Champagne) I also pop an ice cube in it that’s made with pure orange, a small section of orange, some cranberries and a small sprig of rosemary.

SliceofTosst · 02/12/2025 18:45

Cup of tea, shortbread biscuits and bucks fizz.

We have our Christmas lunch around 1 so don't want a proper brekkie.

EdTeach · 02/12/2025 18:58

We have our Christmas roast on Christmas Eve, so Christmas Day is an eat-anything-that-comes-your-way day. Breakfast is usually bacon rolls, but I’m thinking croissants this year. And Buck’s Fizz. Then it’ll be chocolate or cheese or whatever for second breakfast!

If I had a cook I would have kippers, or smoked haddock, or kedgeree.

Why do you need a cook for those?

Chelsea26 · 02/12/2025 20:07

May I suggest our Boxing Day Breakfast Stack for your consideration? It’s soooo good

Bubble and squeak cakes made with the left over Christmas veg, a patty made out of stuffing and a runny poached or fried egg stacked on top of each other and then a load or Parmesan cheese grated over…

I genuinely can’t wait!

BarryKentPoet · 03/12/2025 07:56

Tattie scone nachos!
Chop your potato scones in half and fry until crispy edged. Pile some on a plate for each person.
Have toppings out of fried mushrooms, beans, cheese, bacon lardons and Hollandaise sauce for everyone to load their nachos with.

It's honestly delicious.

Croissants, buck's fizz and the tangerines from the stockings. It's what we had in my house growing up, it's what we do now.

Just plain all butter croissants, but good ones. It's the only time of year we even have breakfast, but lunch is at 3pm so it needs to be light. Christmas lunch is probably my favourite meal, so I'm not filling up on breakfast (or starters). Though I can't pretend the odd sausage roll or chocolate coin doesn't pass my lips.

Also, needs to be something dead easy to prepare, as the kitchen is taken up with lunch preparation all morning.

DriveMeCrazy1974 · 03/12/2025 11:07

Last year we melted Lindt Lindor chocolates and mixed them with full fat, creamy milk to make a luxurious hot chocolate and then had them with croissants. That was lovely but perhaps a bit rich for breakfast (even if I had been up since 5am and we had them at 10am!).
This year, I think we'll just be having bacon sandwiches as we've got a busyish day ahead.

Mushrooms with cream and sherry on thick, buttered toast.

cramptramp · 03/12/2025 11:08

I always have a selection box. Traditional.

That sounds like a Fanny Craddock recipe from the 1970s, except hers was served in a hollowed out loaf of bread!!
I still can't decide if it sounds nice or not! :)

Old School- I like it!!
My favourite thing about Christmas, growing up in the 1970s and early 1980s, was sneaking off with my selection box (they were much better back then) and a brand new annual to read. Bliss.

Don’t use a recipe. It’s completely delicious.

I may give that a go :)

Usually just some warm croissants, hot buttered toast or crumpets. Husband does like a Calypso Coffee though. Nothing too fancy. Because I can’t be arsed and we want to open presents!

falalalala25 · 03/12/2025 11:27

A large box of Maltesers is my choice.

I love the crazy abandon of a calypso coffee for breakfast! Anything goes! 😂

Yes I loved the actual net of the stockings. Not like the ones these days.

HansHolbein · 03/12/2025 16:13

We are going to have sausage and egg muffins (McDonald’s style) and hash browns. With orange juice and Bucks Fizz.

Healthy breakfast for the children all year except for Christmas day. Everyone dives into my bed and the Christmas biscuits are opened with our coffee, milk or juice. I can't eat the biscuits but I hope this never stops.

Cereal with baileys, not milk, swiftly followed by a selection box

Honestly?? I like a baileys but with cereal 🤣🤢

Might have to try that hot chocolate, maybe not xmas morning though
