Do you put your Christmas presents under the tree once they are wrapped?

This was always the tradition in my house growing up, presents were placed under the tree until Christmas Day.

Dh said you shouldn’t because if the house got broken into, they’d know where to find the presents.

I can’t get that thought out of my head now.

Do you?

I used to put presents for friends and family under the tree. I don't currently, as have a 2 year old... I wouldn't put husbands/kids under tree though. Even with out Santa, its nice to put it out christmas eve night.

FudgeSundae · 30/11/2025 17:58

I do because I love having a place to put them!
no hiding them around the house!

Sally2791 · 30/11/2025 18:00

Yes! Looks great. Kids never touched them.

LividArse · 30/11/2025 18:02

God no. Have a small child. Father Christmas is supposed to bring them overnight isn't he?

Littletreefrog · 30/11/2025 18:05

Nope all presents go under the tree on Christmas Eve. Even the ones that aren't from Santa and even though the youngest is 15. Partially because of the burglar aspect, partially because the dog can't be trusted not to unwrap any that have food in them and partially because it's a left over tradition from when the kids were little.

Nowheretobeseen · 30/11/2025 18:07

Presents from family members under the tree and hubbys. The rest for the kids from us and grandparents under the tree on Christmas Eve.

Christmasagain123 · 30/11/2025 18:09

In our house the stockings are from Santa and the main presents are from us.

It sounds as though not many people do put them under the tree. I would love to leave them under the tree but I can’t now after dh mentioned getting burgled.

The presents are under the tree on Christmas Eve. Mainly cos of the burglar aspect.....

Pinkladyapplepie · 30/11/2025 18:14

My dog would unwrap and destroy quicker than you could place them there but love the look of it at others houses.

Father Christmas brings ALL the presents?!
We do one gift and a stocking from Santa. The rest of the presents are from mummy/daddy/granny/aunts/uncles etc etc

Gentlydoesit2 · 30/11/2025 18:18

We might put the odd one or two out from family friends but not all of them. With a toddler this year nothings going out... Maybe not even the tree 😝🥴😂😂

caringcarer · 30/11/2025 18:18

My tree goes in conservatory behind glass because one of my cats jumps up and I'm afraid will harm herself with lights. My gifts for each other go under the tree but obviously not stocking gifts because Santa has those.

Topseyt123 · 30/11/2025 18:20

Apart from the ones I was going to put in the children's stockings when they were small, all of ours have always just gone straight under the tree once wrapped.

Now that the DDs are all grown up everything just gets put straight under the tree.

PatThePenguin · 30/11/2025 18:20

No, there was a massive police campaign around here over 20 years ago warning people not to.

We put them under on Christmas Eve and hope for the best 🤣

Elpheba · 30/11/2025 18:21

Stuff I’ve wrapped for family that will be opened here on Christmas Day I put under the tree once I’ve wrapped it, ditto presents that arrive for kids in post (not many- one or two), ones from us to the kids we wait and put out after they’ve gone to bed so they’re not tempted to peek and because I remember the joy of appearing Christmas morning and seeing all the presents! (They are all from us- Santa just brings stockings- but I think it’s fun for them to appear!)

He only ever brought the stockings that went in front of the fireplace here.

Mostly so the kids could appreciate that other people buy and wrap presents for them.

But also because they must surely see all the adverts and huge aisles of gifts in the shops??

meghansturkey · 30/11/2025 18:29

No we have cats 😂

My dog would unwrap and destroy quicker than you could place them there but love the look of it at others houses.

I was convinced my old labrador would do that when he was a young dog.

Oddly though, it was one of the few bits of mischief he never got up to in all of his life. I've no idea why but was relieved that he didn't. He just totally ignored them all.

I still never risked leaving presents that might contain chocolate etc. out. Dangerous for dogs, and there is such a thing as too much temptation. 🙄

DelurkingAJ · 30/11/2025 18:33

We have underfloor heating so nothing that might be chocolate or food! But yes, everything else goes out as it arrives (once the tree is up).

ATadSurprised · 30/11/2025 18:39

No, because they'd be a dust trap! Put them out on Christmas Eve. We always put them as they arrived when I was a child, but we had a real tree so it wasn't up for so long and we had carpets.

RealChristmasBaby · 30/11/2025 18:39

Once mine are wrapped they go under the tree, but it's unlikely we will be burgled, both retired and adult DS works from home, plus dog. Always someone here. I would think a burglar would find plenty of stuff to take easily enough anyway.

Ecrire · 30/11/2025 18:40

1 dog
1 puppy
2 primary aged kids

they are sitting in Amazon boxes in full sight.

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 30/11/2025 18:42

No because part of the magic is the kids going to bed with no presents under the tree and waking up to a sew of parcels around it. Santa only brings stockings but it's still magical.

Buildingthefuture · 30/11/2025 18:43

No, because dogs. The memory (from a very long time ago!) of one of mine finding and eating a box of dark chocolate cherry liquor chocolates under the tree, then vomiting pink and brown, all over my new cream carpet, is still strong!

I do the same set up but presents still don’t go under the tree (just ds 21 and I) until Xmas Eve (or rather nowadays first thing Xmas morning!)

presents under tree are from me to
him.

All other presents are at my parents and we open them later when we go around. We take my family presents around then too but they are never put under my tree!

Im not worried about the burglary aspect as I live in a flat!!!
