Pringles yay or nay?

Do you think Pringle's are an appropriate item for stockings. I ask because yesterday I was out getting the kids Christmas stuff done and I picked up small tubs of Pringles for the stockings. It caused such a reaction from DH, he stormed out of the shop and then we had a huge row which ended up with him driving off and leaving me at the shopping mall. We've since made up but he still maintains Pringles are not stocking items but other snacks are okConfused. Pringle's in stockings ok or heinous?

This is, as they say, not about Pringles. (Or Iranian Yoghurt).

Fleur405 · 30/11/2025 16:16

Well what’s heinous is your DH’s behaviour.

MiddleChildX · 30/11/2025 16:16

But To answer the question, Pringles are a staple stocking filler here 👍

GellerYeller · 30/11/2025 16:16

We used to give stocking gifts that were things we usually said no to in the supermarket. So fancier sweets, that sort of thing. One year, a stupidly overpriced sparkling water went down well! Yes, this included Pringles.
DH never objected though.

MyFavouritePlace · 30/11/2025 16:16

OTT reaction from your DH.I'd be pissed off at the driving off etc.
I usually add the Christmas branded ones into my DC stockings.
I don't think there are any real stocking rules!

DisplayPurposesOnly · 30/11/2025 16:17

I can't imagine feeling strongly enough about this to storm out and row about it.

Egglio · 30/11/2025 16:18

Buy some for your DH stocking

BobbyShaftoWentToSeeSilverBucklesOnHisKnee · 30/11/2025 16:18

Small tubs? No wonder he stormed out. You need the full sized ones.

All jokes aside his reaction is very extreme for such a non issue. Pringles are absolutely stocking fillers anyway.

notenoughcaffeine · 30/11/2025 16:19

I think your DH needs help 😂

I'm not sure I feel that strongly about anything.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/11/2025 16:22

Your dh is a pillock. Did a grown adult really have a strop about some salty fried snacks?

Alexadidzammomarryjackie · 30/11/2025 16:23

In my house, no. Other than a chocolate orange, I don't give food as a stocking present and I think Pringles, which are freely available and often in the house anyway, is very weird.

Notthehill · 30/11/2025 16:24

Egglio · 30/11/2025 16:18

Buy some for your DH stocking

Ha ha yes!

TomatoSandwiches · 30/11/2025 16:24

You have a DH problem

Bluejaysforthewin · 30/11/2025 16:27

To be honest it was a stressful day all round. The people,.the.parking, the line ups. Who knew the shops would be busy on black Friday weekend!. It was actually quite nice to be left, I had a good look around the charity shop and picked up some books and 6 mini mince pies which I ate on the walk home listening to a podcast so it wasn't all bad. He did apologize and made dinner. I'm going to by him a selection of Pringles and put them in a stocking for him..

Now THIS^^ is odd!

GoGoGooo · 30/11/2025 16:28

2 small pots of Pringles squirrelled away for DCs stockings. Have never had much of a sweet tooth (so chocolate and sweets aren’t so good) but crisps are both of there weaknesses.

Your DH sounds insane.

Aw, that's a nice end to the story. But I think Pringles should now have a permanent place in your children's stockings.

TwoMintsLoose · 30/11/2025 16:30

Absolutely yay!
Pringles aren’t an unusual stocking filler at all.
Is your DH upset at the thought of there being Pringles in the house he isn’t allowed to eat? Does he know he’s allowed to go and get himself a ‘secret’ stash of Pringles to compensate? It’s an odd reaction he had!

TwoMintsLoose · 30/11/2025 16:32

Pringles are great on years you’re struggling for ideas too. Pringles, the compulsory chocolate coins and socks - and there isn’t much space after!

Bluejaysforthewin · 30/11/2025 16:38

I think he was pissed off because he was done with shopping and wanted us to go for a quick beer and appys and Made a ' quick ' stop to get some bits. In calmer conversation over dinner he still says they don't belong. I think he's climbed up on this hill and can't come down. Wait till I tell him I also got beef jerky and Takis!

OP posts:
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/11/2025 16:47

We used to put beef jerky in for one of our dc - too expensive to buy as a normal day to day snack.

Also, mini boxes of cereals.

They were over the moon one year to get a bag of dried mango each!

As they got older, we'd do chilli sauce, chutney etc

Ponderingwindow · 30/11/2025 16:57

Your husband’s reaction is absolutely bizarre and concerning.

it is also true that my child would be absolutely perplexed by a tube of pringles in her stocking. I see them in the shelves and I get that they are the right shape and take up space, but I don’t get why people choose them.

@Ponderingwindow OP was talking about the 'small tubs' of pringles, not the full tubes.

ExpressiveDecorations · 30/11/2025 17:03

One of my young adult DC asks for them every year, we have them other times too hut only occasionally. One year I bought her a Pringles Advent Calendar. So YANBU.
