Pringles yay or nay?

Do you think Pringle's are an appropriate item for stockings. I ask because yesterday I was out getting the kids Christmas stuff done and I picked up small tubs of Pringles for the stockings. It caused such a reaction from DH, he stormed out of the shop and then we had a huge row which ended up with him driving off and leaving me at the shopping mall. We've since made up but he still maintains Pringles are not stocking items but other snacks are okConfused. Pringle's in stockings ok or heinous?

I say “shocking-snack yes” if it’s a fun, bite-sized treat. Pringles are practical and festive in small tubs, but if your partner hates them for the tradition, maybe save a different snack for the main stocking and keep Pringles as a cheeky extra on a separate day. It’s the small joy that matters—agree on the vibe for next year and keep the peace.

GumFossil · 30/11/2025 17:07

I can’t imagine a grown adult getting so hysterical over something so meaningless. Is he always such a baby?

Toogood2betrueItisnt · 30/11/2025 17:10

Nay, because they're awful. They were amazing years ago, but now different texture, salty with no flavour.

Edited to say, if your dcs like them, than this is what counts. I agree with a pp, stick a tub in dh's stocking on top of the piece of coal!

SwedishEdith · 30/11/2025 17:17

Does he also contribute to ideas and buying stuff for their stockings? I've read your update but his reaction was OTT. I think anything goes in stockings and if it makes the receiver happy, it's a winner.

Bluejaysforthewin · 30/11/2025 17:21

@GumFossilNo he's usually quite a solid guy. We used to have quite firey arguments in the early days but this was quite unexpected. To be fair he had just endured Sephora so he may have been temporarily dazed by the all the scents!.

OP posts:
Bluejaysforthewin · 30/11/2025 17:49

@SwedishEdithHe does. The shopping wrapping and stuffing is very much a team effort.

We (my siblings and I!) ALWAYS have Pringles in our stockings.

(I’m 35yo, and despite our protesting that she does too much, DM still makes us stockings 😅 [except now she gets a massive one, too, as siblings and I go to town on it lol)

Stressybetty · 30/11/2025 17:53

DC grown up now but when I was a child and for my DC for stockings it used to be something to eat (chocolate, sweets, peanuts) something to read (book, comic/magazine) something to listen to, tape/cd), something to wear (socks) something to do (colouring, small game/jigsaw, trump cards) usually a mug as well. I stuck to that until DC one year said with the money spent on the stocking she could have got a second main present. Next year
I did just that and she changed her mind pretty sharpish! Yes to small tub pringles!

Buy some for your DH stocking

Yes this 😹

We used to give stocking gifts that were things we usually said no to in the supermarket. So fancier sweets, that sort of thing. One year, a stupidly overpriced sparkling water went down well! Yes, this included Pringles.
DH never objected though.

Food that I wouldn't normally buy them is a standard present here too.

Especially pink limited edition rubbish. Like the pink raspberry and white chocolate shredded wheat one year and they have the pink chocolate digestives this year. Also Lucky Charms were a favourite for a while.
I never buy biscuits or frosted cereal normally.

The pot noodle Christmas cracker (a big cracker shaped box with 3 pot noodles in) went down well a couple of years ago.

DD has been going on about vanilla Coca Cola which has been discontinued in the UK but I found some in Spain so that's in her stocking too

Just silly presents that are fun really 🤷🏼‍♀️

Ghhhn · 30/11/2025 20:08

Possibly, as they can be wrapped like crackers. Don’t usually have them in the house but may if there was a Christmas edition.

Your husband was an idiot. I hope he isn’t like that all the time (mine is too often - haven’t divorced because of the kn*bbish control opportunities shared custody would give him).

Ponderingwindow · 30/11/2025 20:16

Notthehill · 30/11/2025 17:03

@Ponderingwindow OP was talking about the 'small tubs' of pringles, not the full tubes.

I know. I still don’t get it. I know lots of people do them or the stores wouldn’t stock them at Christmas, I just don’t understand why.

CoffeeChocolateWine · 30/11/2025 20:22

Pringles are not a stocking filler here but mainly because we find them absolutely vile 🤢 Your DH’s reaction is very OTT and weird though. The only snacks I put in stocking are chocolate/sweets/fudge. My DC would think the big man had lost the plot to find crisps in their stocking but each to their own!

Berlinlover · 30/11/2025 20:24

Pringles in a stocking are the least of your worries.

Bitzee · 30/11/2025 20:31

I think they’re a bit odd as a Christmas present, even as a stocking filler. Christmas chocolate obviously yes but not everyday basic crisps. But it’s not a particularly strong opinion so I’m wondering the hell does that escalate into a blazing row and him driving off?? WTAF.

ElReverendoGreen · 30/11/2025 20:35

Ponderingwindow · 30/11/2025 20:16

Why would your child be perplexed to find crisps in her stocking? I’m guessing she doesn’t like crisps, in which case, fair enough….but you must understand that other people do?

I don’t understand what it is that you don’t understand. They are a snack food that people enjoy, so why can’t you understand that people put them in stockings? The other reason is that are fairly expensive, so people who don’t buy them year round are happy to buy them as a treat at Christmas.

what’s hard to understand about that?

Bluejaysforthewin · 30/11/2025 20:46

@GhhhnNo, he's not usually a Stormer. I'm putting the Pringles induced tantrum down to Christmas shopping madness.

TrentCrimmsflowinglocks · 30/11/2025 20:55

I have regularly put Pringles mini tubs in stockings. But that’s beside the point, the point is where does your DH get off being such a complete dick about such a trivial issue??

Alwaystired23 · 30/11/2025 21:06

Definitely a stocking filler here. Only for one ds though as he loves pringles. Other ds doesnt.

SwedishEdith · 30/11/2025 22:06

Scampi Fries were popular one year. Must remember to add them again.

Fends · 30/11/2025 22:26

They do a Pringles advent calendar. Just saying in case you haven’t got him one yet 😉

MabelMoo23 · 30/11/2025 22:50

My pair (8 and 10) are obsessed by Pringles and would love the chance to have a little one each in their stockings!

Rosilil · 30/11/2025 22:56

Put a one in dh’s stocking or wrapped for Christmas, but remove the Pringles, replace with a single piece of coal and glue the silver paper back on.
Pringles is a perfectly acceptable stocking choice.

lxn889121 · 01/12/2025 01:29

Anything is a stocking filler.. if they like it.

If your kids love pringles, it is a great addition.

Fits in a stocking, the kids will like it/enjoy opening it/using it. - those are the only requirements of a stocking filler for me.

StruggleFlourish · 01/12/2025 01:45

Yeah I don't think this was about Pringles and their appropriateness to add to a stocking stuff at all. As you mentioned, he was probably just stressed and tired because you were shopping on black friday, and he was getting hangry.

Other people mentioned it but you did too, get him some Pringles for a stocking stuffer. Lol. Too funny.

Stocking stuffers are all about inexpensive things that you can add that are nice, consumable, and a can of Pringles totally fits the bill. Besides, you will know if it's an appropriate item or not, if you're buying for someone who's allergic to the ingredients obviously not. If you're buying for someone who has an eating disorder, probably not.
Don't worry about it. I'm sure that your stockings will be lovely when you're finished. You sound like a fun person
