Christmas candle

What do you recommend? I spent a fortune on the white company winter range last year for it to smell of nothing. Hugely disappointing. I quite like bath and body works candles but they can be a bit artificial smelling. I like the smell of a Christmas tree but not pine toilet cleaner!

Has anyone got the neom Christmas candles. Are they any good?

M and s clove and orange is really lovely and lasts.

ThisCheeryGreenNewt · 28/11/2025 06:43

Next frankincense and myrrh 😍

ThisCheeryGreenNewt · 28/11/2025 06:44

M&S sorry

HollyGolightly4 · 28/11/2025 06:45

Agreed with you about white company last year!

I'm a fan of the sand+ fog winter pine (get in tk maxx though!) I think that's Christmas tree without being toilet cleaner.

I don't mind the Sainsbury's Christmas candles either. They aren't quite as strong as some, but they smell pleasant.

I've only had a neom sleep candle - and I was so disappointed with it, I'd not buy another one.

Diptyque Feu de Bois is my Christmas go to. Their Christmas pine one is called Sapin. I don’t have the candle but the room spray is lovely.

RhaenysRocks · 28/11/2025 06:45

Sorry but I love the White Company Winter. I always get bought a big three wick one and then when it's burned down I melt and repour it. Not helpful, sorry. Hope you find something.

Anotherdayanotherpound · 28/11/2025 06:45

Diptique are always good. I’ve not smelt a Christmas one this year but if you find a smell you like in the shop it should translate to a good smell at home as they’re very good quality

Willow12345 · 28/11/2025 06:47

St Eval Inspiritus and Bay & Rosemary are my favourite Christmas scents. Traditional and not artificial.

Chocdown · 28/11/2025 06:58

Echoing @Willow12345 for st eval. Inspiritus, to my unsophisticated nose, is a stronger version of Winter. I also love Winter Thyme (also St Eval) as a more woody/less sweet scent. It’s herby, and smells a bit like real Christmas trees

OMaGawd · 28/11/2025 07:04

Definitely St Eval

stickytoffeepavlova · 28/11/2025 07:13

Yankee candle's cinnamon stick is nice. But make sure it's that exact one, there are others with cinnamon in the name and they aren't nice.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 28/11/2025 07:13

I tried White Company Tonka candle and really love it, my new fave

Oneearringlost · 28/11/2025 07:14

I may be completely missing your point, here, but if you want a 'proper' church incense, go for Prinkash ( pronounced "Prinesh") incense.
My father was a C of E vicar, and whilst we didn't do incense, he really knew about it.
If you want it, it's got to go with some excellent carols; it can't be anything but the Huddersfield Choral Society ones, nothing, but nothing, equals the swell of music.

Otherwise, utterly pointlessly, as its been discontinued, ( but might be available elsewhere), the John Lewis "Winter Spruce" scented candles, were utterly beautiful.

christmasideers · 28/11/2025 07:17

White Company have definitely changed their candles. I had one from years ago that I dragged out for probably a decade (it still scented the room even when unlit) then had to replace it last year and was so disappointed.

I like St Eval, especially Winter Thyme for Christmas.

Yankee and the like make me feel like I’m breathing in chemical fug. DH’s work give us a massive one every year and I’ve now learnt that no matter how nice it smells in the jar I must not be tempted to light it and it needs to go to the charity shop.

BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop · 28/11/2025 07:17

DW candles from TK Maxx are really good, they are my go-to as they smell great and last for ages. That’s until I somehow get buckets of money and can afford a Trudon!

baubletime · 28/11/2025 07:22

thanks so much for all the answers. About to start work so will properly look tonight.

Did you buy the botanical version of winter or the glass version? The latter smells much stronger, I’m surprised you say it doesn’t smell of anything if it’s the latter, WC are the only candles I’m happy to spend money on these days.

RhaenysRocks · 28/11/2025 07:35

That's interesting about the glass / botanicals thing. My DP always buys it for me and gets the botanical..maybe I'll ask for glass next year.. like the sound of st eval though

hdksbhhhh · 28/11/2025 07:42

Yeah I’ve bought the botanical one before because it’s much better value in terms of hours burned and they’re really pretty, but they’re definitely no where near as strong. And I wonder if the price point reflects that if it’s a different kind of wax. Some are better than others, Summer has next to no smell. I currently have the massive winter botanical (5 or 6 wicks I think it is) and you can smell it, but looking forward to switching back to the glass!

Christmas candle
Heylittlesongbird · 28/11/2025 07:52

Another for St Eval or Duxmore Botanics. With Duxmore I haven’t tried their Christmas candles yet, but their others have been good.

Decorhate · 28/11/2025 07:54

I loved the White Company Nordic Woods candle that I was given last Christmas but they have discontinued it!

Thank you for this! I've just been looking for an incense smelling candle and spent a fortune on a Tvrdon candle which was recommended which really didn't do what I wanted.
Most incense smells too herby/ patchouli rather than the churchy feel I want.
I'll try these! Looking at the site is there one you recommend?

MalagaNights · 28/11/2025 08:10

Everyone always slates Yankee candles on these threads but I have spent/ wasted a small fortune on candles and always end up returning to ymYankee for the sheer throw they give.
I avoid the super sweet ones but the lavender lemon is a great fresh one and soft blanket a cosy one.

Every christmas I get their christmas eve candle. I think it's a warm slightly sweet cosy scent. I'd have to look the notes up. But it's become the smell of christmas here now and always fills the house.

I also found the white company Winter didn't provide the throw for the price. I've tried their Myrhh candle this year, again disappointing.
