What do you recommend? I spent a fortune on the white company winter range last year for it to smell of nothing. Hugely disappointing. I quite like bath and body works candles but they can be a bit artificial smelling. I like the smell of a Christmas tree but not pine toilet cleaner!

i Like st eval but they are pricey I think. Sainsbury’s/habitat are good value. I have also had an M&S one this year that was good.

My favourite is Quiescent from The Botanical candle company. Not cheap but I love it.

I’ve always loved winter, as feel it’s the one that drifts through the house. But my sister bought me Neom perfect peace last week and I absolutely love it. It’s such a lovely aromatherapy fragrance, literally like smelling the bottle of oil. Smells natural and not artificial.
I also love snow fall by Lilly flame though, which is much cheaper.

Second this. Love Neom.

Nutmuncher · 29/11/2025 07:03

Diptyque Pomander and Sapin are both my favourite Christmas candles.

St Eval also do a good one called Inspiritus which is a great cheapy without smelling cheap.

WonderingWanda · 29/11/2025 07:07

Another vote for St Eval, they are lovely.

babyproblems · 29/11/2025 07:10

Diptyque. Every time. Any candle.
Last year DH bought me the advent candle which was a large tree shape with numbers down to burn each day- I didn’t use it because I didn’t get it until mid dec!
I took the box of Xmas stuff out of the loft this week and I could tell where the box was amongst everything up there because the candle smelt so strong!!!

BraveStarr · 29/11/2025 07:17

Another vote for True Grace. I have their Burlington Christmas candle, and it’s lovely. I also have Sacristy which smells beautiful - just like an old church (in a good way!) . Highly recommend!

Keepthecat · 29/11/2025 07:29

St Eval. My favourite is Inspiritus.

Don’t by cheap candles, they are bad for your lungs.Try Cire Trudon, Diptyque or Neom.

Sorry but I love the White Company Winter. I always get bought a big three wick one and then when it's burned down I melt and repour it. Not helpful, sorry. Hope you find something.

Melt and repour? What do you mean?

This is also my favourite Xmas candle.

Sparkletastic · 29/11/2025 09:15

If you are on Instagram I’d recommend watching Alice Du Parque’s recent Christmas candle review videos. She covers three price brackets. She really rates the Beauty Pie candles and that prompted me to join on a free 14 day trial to buy some at excellent Black Friday prices. She doesn’t mention Valentte but many of their candles have excellent throw.

queenofarles · 29/11/2025 10:01

Trudon , there is nothing like it , all beeswax.

Skandanavisk (you can get them in John lewis) skog scent is the best pine fragrance and you can easily burn it after Christmas as it's just really nice and wintery

I had this and Hygge in the JL candles advent last year - thought they were good.

Reading this thread, it's time to crack open the Christmas candles, me thinks.

Diptique sapins. Beautiful.

I bought the big 3 wick White Company knew last year and I could not get the wicks to burn it down evenly. Never again. Smell wasn't all that either

Ghhhn · 29/11/2025 18:10

Can you make a simmer pot? No chemicals. Orange, clove, vanilla and cinnamon.

Bettyfromhomeroom · 29/11/2025 18:40

We've just started burning out Cinnamon Vanilla 3 wick candle from Dunelm which is quite nice

This is also my favourite Xmas candle.

So when the larger ones have burned down the bottom of the wick you always have loads of wax left. Melt it in a saucepan, buy new wicks and pour the wax into a glass or tin or whatever with the new wax. It sets and you have more candle.

loveawineloveacrisp · 30/11/2025 10:20

Ooh, thanks

fragrancemeister · 30/11/2025 12:55

Make your own..I do and they fill the house...a bit expensive to start up but after you have the kit they work out cheaper and you know what goes in them...some of the shop bought ones are carcinogenic,be careful

St Eval Inspiritus and Bay & Rosemary are my favourite Christmas scents. Traditional and not artificial.

Just seen you can get them on Amazon if they aren't in Waitrose/John Lewis. I've just added it to my wish list

For string scents I love JM and lush candles. I tend to light a cluster including one of those. So some pretty, some scented. I hate a disappointing scented candle!!
