Christmas candle

What do you recommend? I spent a fortune on the white company winter range last year for it to smell of nothing. Hugely disappointing. I quite like bath and body works candles but they can be a bit artificial smelling. I like the smell of a Christmas tree but not pine toilet cleaner!

St Eval Inspiritus and Bay & Rosemary are my favourite Christmas scents. Traditional and not artificial.

I was just about to recommend St Eval. Winter Thyme is nice too but it’s not as strong. It’s more herbal than spicy.

Always buy M&S’s light up candles, they’re beautiful.

FriedaMer · 28/11/2025 15:09

Skandinavisk Skog Candle - it's the most gorgeous natural fir tree scent. I have a November birthday and DH usually gets me one to keep for burning in December.

Diptyque Feu de Bois is my Christmas go to. Their Christmas pine one is called Sapin. I don’t have the candle but the room spray is lovely.

I was gifted the Sapin last year and it’s lovely! The same person gave me a white company candle the year before the diptyque is much better quality as a candle and scent.

I like Glass & Wick candles. Beautiful packaging too.

For churchy incense buy frankincense resin and burn over a candle. Its smells gorgeous. Also drops of essential oil on radiators or in a small bowl of water on a wood burner smell divine and no synthetic chemicals. For Christmassy smells use frankincense, myrhh, pine, orange, clove, cinammon etc.

Lovely affordable candles are Isle of Skye candles.

when you say burn resin, how do you do this?

Parr1960 · 28/11/2025 18:03

Charles Farris candles are lovely

Hedjwitch · 28/11/2025 18:10

I have a little wax melt thing with a candle in the bottom and I put some resin in the dish at the top. Best to line the top with foil as it makes a horribly sticky mess which is hard to get out.

Or, fold a strip of tinfoil and make it into a bridge over a tealight with some resin on the top.of the bridge. Looks a bit shady but does the job.

TMMC1 · 28/11/2025 18:25

@user593 have you tried Geodesis? If not give it a go. The fig is very similar and it’s much cheaper for daily use.

TMMC1 · 28/11/2025 18:26

@FunnyOrca try geodesis. My go to now as more affordable than Diptique and really good

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 28/11/2025 19:13

I always buy M&S Mandarin, Clove and Cinnamon. To me they smell lovely and Christmassy, but not fake or overpowering. And not crazy money.

I’ve been disappointed with even expensive candles that are supposed to smell of Christmas trees - more like pine loo cleaner, to me, anyway.

Anonna123 · 28/11/2025 19:16

@baubletime I have Neom Christmas Wish and I love it. It makes my house smell clean and expensive 😄

DelphineFox · 28/11/2025 19:26

I like St Eval Winter Thyme

Dannywilliamsirb · 28/11/2025 19:52

So… I actually spent three years formulating our ‘Fir Trees’ scented non toxic natural wax candle, because I was sick of picking up “Christmas tree” that smelt like toilet cleaner 😅

If you fancy trying use code firstflame for a cheeky newbie discount!

I have two new Christmassy candles from Field Day. A pine one and a spicy one. It’s my new fave company after St Evals changed the formulation of two of my favourite scents.

garlicandsapphires · 28/11/2025 19:59

Also Pomander by Diptyque.

Tidypidy · 28/11/2025 20:03

I like IKEA candles. They’re reasonably priced and smell lovely.

Yeah I’ve bought the botanical one before because it’s much better value in terms of hours burned and they’re really pretty, but they’re definitely no where near as strong. And I wonder if the price point reflects that if it’s a different kind of wax. Some are better than others, Summer has next to no smell. I currently have the massive winter botanical (5 or 6 wicks I think it is) and you can smell it, but looking forward to switching back to the glass!

I am sure I read that if a candle is in a container it can contain a higher amount of scent because it does not need to support itself.

DelphineFox · 28/11/2025 20:34

St Eval have got 50% off some things for black Friday. (I don't work for them I just saw an ad on Facebook.)
There's mini christmas scented candles such as winter thyme in a cracker for about a fiver

Cyclingmummy1 · 28/11/2025 21:45

Freckleface Evergreen or WC Winter

Gribbit987 · 28/11/2025 21:56

Sapin by Diptyque. Christmas pine done well.

Made the mistake of buying Jo Loves Christmas Trees candle last year. Ended up putting it on Olio - cloying and very synthetic.

MamaSideBored · 28/11/2025 21:58

Skandanavisk (you can get them in John lewis) skog scent is the best pine fragrance and you can easily burn it after Christmas as it's just really nice and wintery

TheGrimSmile · 28/11/2025 23:00

The Aldi Christmas tree two years ago was amazing. Not overpowering but just like a real Christmas tree.
