Thread 12 - The one where it's All Pants (and socks)

1000 replies

RainbowZebraWarrior · 25/11/2025 20:27

Levi's pants and socks, that is. It's also exactly a month until Christmas!

Also, I have to thank @FortnumsWeddingBreakfastTeaPlease for this quote, as it really tickled me: "Well it's not going to be the one where we found the fucking flamingo.
Honestly I'm starting to despise the stupid, elusive, constipated thing." Sadly, it was too long to make the thread title.

Hello folks and welcome to the ongoing Christmas Bargain threads, which are hosted annually by the Amazing Reastie. I'm just caretaking for now.

This post is a work in progress, and if you have any links you’d like to share or you think would be good to add, then please do let me know. The general consensus for the thread is to share any bargainous links, ideas, and/or discount codes or information. No affiliate links, please.

Please post any referral links to the separate thread linked below. This is a warm, friendly, kind and cosy corner of MN filled with Christmas cookies and hot chocolate - let’s keep it that way!

As we move towards actual Black Friday (does that even exist any more?) the threads tend to move very quickly. It can be helpful to post your bargain in bold. This can be done by adding an asterxix either side of a word with no gap in between. So Levi's would be Levi's

Not a bargain post but do others think, like me that these threads constitute the nicest corner of Mumsnet? This is my first year using them and they are great. I have found lots of inspiration and no nastiness. I find the continuous stream of other threads moaning about Christmas 'tat', no gifts between adults, and general hating this, that and the other depressing.

Thank you to the ladies who started these gift theads and keep on putting up new ones as they fill and wish you all the Christmas you wish for yourselves.

A few of the Christmas gift threads and the beauty threads are my safe space on MN 😊

Occasionally I get pulled in to a Trending thread - a couple of posts in and there will be some nastiness, so I quickly run back to my safe space threads.

ref the Nordic Socks - my DS is a size 9 . are the large 6-9 or the XL 10-12 best?

Is there shrinkage or stretch?

I don't know, my size is right in the middle of a size bracket so I ordered those. But in your case I might size up as wool tends to shrink in the wash.

hby9628 · 27/11/2025 10:33

For those that have used them, do the Nordic socks keep your feet warm? I struggle every winter with cold feet. I’ve ordered some of the fleece insoles from Celtic & Co which I’m looking forward to trying. Today I’ve got 2 pairs of socks on & my toes are still cold

Can’t fault the customer service at sock shop! Contacted them yesterday morning to say that my advent calendar was missing from my order - they sent it straight away and it’s arrived this morning ❤️ it’s absolutely beautiful too for anyone else who’s considering it 🎄

Oh I was planning to open mine and split the socks. I'm not sure I'll want to now

TeenWhisperer · 27/11/2025 10:56

We all wear Nordic Socks in our house and have lots of different kinds. Dd likes the over the knee wool ones (they were great for Canada). The wool ones are very thick and warm (I can't wear them with my normal shoe size). I would go for the larger size bracket if you're in any doubt. The cotton socks are thinner but still thicker than regular socks. They all wash well and I haven't noted any shrinkage (they aren't 100% wool, so they can just be thrown in the washing machine without thinking too much). I've just ordered a couple of knee highs for dd as she loves them. The wool ones can also be worn a lot longer than other socks. The material wicks any moisture and smells away.

I happened across GemJar socks (formerly Joya) via this thread a couole of years ago and they are lovely (wool) for the first time ever in my life, my feet are no longer cold in winter. I'm sure they have a BF deal on too. They are quite thick, but I can still get my trainers / shoes / boots on with them on. I love them so much, I found out a local gift shop near me sold them, so have treated myself to a pair every month this year to build up a nice winter stock! Oh, and they are soft (I usually hate wool and find it scratchy) and wash well too (30 degrees!)

Here's a link to one of their offers:

Does anyone have any ideas for bargainous ways to hang a map that is 100cm x 89cm please? One of the Marvellous Maps that were recommended on a previous thread would make the perfect present for someone we know, but I cannot find a frame/poster hanger that doesn't cost way more than the map itself and it's taking it out of budget. I feel like gifting the map rolled up won't be as nice. Thank you

I bought an xlarge cork pin board for a map - the recipient wanted to stick pins in it anyway so this seemed the best solution.
If not then wooden trousers hangers work great (I think I got half a dozen for a few quid in Lidls central aisle of randomness) hangers with peg like clips on also work.
Hope you find something!

A couple of stocking fillers on Amazon -

cute unicorn sleep masks pack of 4 for 4.73 for prime members

And mini squishmallows 12 for 12.29

Perfect for splitting between kids or as mini presents for friends

@toooldforbrat I definitely think the Nordic socks shrink, I'm not that impressed by them tbh. Bought DH & myself some a couple of years ago but they became too tight quickly. Sounds like others have had a different experience though.

I'm sure there was a discussion of them last month and the consensus seemed to be that they weren't great. Which I was sad about as I had had them on my radar waiting for a deal.

It's possible though that it was a different brand and I'm misremembering!

Pointed to this thread I think.

It sounds like maybe they're one of those brands that used to be really good and has gone downhill?

Thanks @zacsGranny I don't know if I'm being really silly, but I don't think this is linking me to a specific product and I'm not sure which one you were recommending?

And to anyone who's missed it, join Levi's 'Red Tab' membership program and you automatically get a £5 voucher and free delivery, no minimum spend. If you say your birthday is the following day, you'll also get a £10 voucher the next day in your account too.

www.levi.com/GB/en_GB/

They can't be stacked, and you have to check out through the app to use the vouchers.

I got a belt with my £10 one (£50, half price to £25, used the £10 voucher plus free delivery!) so £15 and then I got £6 socks with the £5 voucher for £1. Both have arrived. DS got a wallet which also arrived.

mummydoris2006 · 27/11/2025 11:45

I have no idea why but every time I've seen GemJar written on here this morning I've read it as GermJar . For the life of me I couldn't understand why someone would want germy socks! 😷
