What are you getting your DH?

I'm a bit stumped this year. He works away, very hard and stressful. Will be back for a week probably and will want to relax, so travelling to an airB&B somewhere will not be suitable (one of my ideas, a night away, silly becuase he will just want to be at home).

I thought of hiring a hot-tub, but don't fancy the possible sex pond germs. I could book a spa day and massage, that might be a nice thing to do. We try to do experiences now instead of 'things' if we can.

I will book a restaurant, but probably for NYE, he wants home cooking when he's back and I don't want to eat out too much anyway.

He's got a dressing gown, some nice PJ's might be an option though.

He doesn't want to eat too much treat-y stuff, he wants to keep it quite healthy so chocolates and fudge etc is out. There is a particular sweet that is his favourite so I will get those for his stocking, and some chocolate coins, and a toblerone always goes in there too.

I think I've answered my question, I will do a spa day, some nice pj's to put on when back home and see what other nice homey things I can plan.
What are you getting yours?

Last year I bought him a comfy travel outfit and a nice bag to take as hand luggage as we were flying long-haul just after Christmas. This year we’re not going anywhere, we’re going to hibernate for the rest of the winter after we get back from the UK Christmas trip.

I always feel a bit cheeky getting him a present such as concert tickets or mini breaks when it’s a present for me too.

PeachBlossom1234 · 19/11/2025 05:06

DDs dad (coparent) always comes to stay on Christmas Eve so I don’t do a stocking but I do make sure he has a small pile from Santa. He’s super hard to buy for but I’ll get him/already got:
aftershave
chocolates
socks
rechargeable hot water bottle
quick defrost tray for his chicken
voucher for his favourite shop

i then always get him and my DD a membership for their favourite family animal park so they don’t have to pay through the year.

Why would you husband have a stocking and PJs - that sounds like a child? Does he do a stocking for you? Just sounds so bizarre for an adult. Go with a fancy meal and a spa day

Oh dear, what a delight you are. My husband would think I’d lost the plot if I told him he was getting a spa day for Christmas. Pjs and a stocking are perfect. In fact he’d raise an eyebrow if there was no stocking on Christmas Day.

Tryingatleast · 19/11/2025 06:54

Will be back when I rtft (op have only read your opener!) but just wanted to add slippers if you’re getting him pjs!

@Whatsthatsheila can I recommend a tip I got from here a couple years ago - buy an assortment of festively striped paper bags for wrapping stocking presents. They have been GAMECHANGING for being able to shove random small presents in and scrunch them up tightly instead of painstakingly wrapping all of them.

something like this (other retailers are available!) amzn.eu/d/gc3bgEP

Oh good lord thank you!! 🤩

Oooh the ninja thirsti cup is a great idea! Might have to copy that one, am always nagging him to drink more!

This sounds like more of an extra nag than a lovely thoughtful gift to me!

I think he will appreciate the fact that I’ve finally found a reusable water bottle / cup that is suitable for sparkling water, as he prefers that to tap water (I’ve looked before a few times and have never found anything).

But even if he doesn’t, I think his main gift of lovely thoughtful £200 gig tickets probably offset the nag… and I’ll take the criticism if it stops him getting kidney stones!

ThatDogIsCrazy · 18/11/2025 21:25

So far I have bought him:

Lego Van Gogh Starry Night picture for his office
Concert tickets (but those are for me as well)
2 jumpers
T shirt
2 Vinyl records
Funko pop of him (I’ve had one done of all of us 😂)
Mug with our dogs photos on
A notebook for work
I have started putting together a bag of his favourite snacks which I’ll add to

I might also get him some boots for walking the dogs but the ones I know he likes seem to be out of stock constantly

The personlised Funko pops sound amazing, could I please ask where you got them?

NoNewClothes · 19/11/2025 11:36

@theriseandfallofFranklinSaint no I’ve never wrapped stocking gifts - that’s what the stocking is for 😄

Now the kids are teens they know they can open their stocking without waiting for all the adults (grandparents!) to be up & ready.

I may look in to the bags suggested upthread.

Pants & socks & toiletries including lynx!, make up & stationery & sweets, a drink or soda stream concentrate, chocolate coins and satsumas.

I’m assuming that you’re such a tired Mumma that you’ve become delirious and have forgotten your manners, but other people’s Christmas traditions aren’t ‘bizarre’ just because you don’t do them in your house. Lots of adults exchange stockings and have new pyjamas. We do. Partly because it’s easier to keep track of small gifts that way, stockings hung up looks nice, I make them, so they’ve beautiful and quilted and lined in satin, in lovely colours, DH had one as a child, loved it and wanted to do the same for me, and because I found gorgeous gold hooks that sit on the sideboard ready to hold them. And I love a new pair of pyjamas. DH even washes them at my mum’s house so they’re nice, clean and fresh for me to wear on Christmas Eve.

OP, in his stocking, he’ll have beard stuff, some moonshine, maybe some AU vodka miniatures, Swedish Fish, a couple of face packs and some of that charcoal pore remover, some O Keefes cream for his feet, socks & boxers and a Bob Ross bobble head for the car. For his main presents, he has an X Box and some games. Not something I think he’s going to be wowed about, but he struggled to think of anything else he wanted. I’m going to try and get tickets for something as well, he’ll like that.

whirlyhead · 19/11/2025 14:07

Nothing, as we've decided to buy the cats a present instead between us.

Neither of us needs anything!

Slingsanderrors · 19/11/2025 14:25

@Hedjwitch i think we have the same husband!
I don’t put a huge effort into buying for him, because he doesn’t appreciate anything.
So far I’ve bought him a pair of hand knitted socks and 2 second hand books that I think he might like.
He’s ordering himself a pair of shoes that he wants.
I’ll get the same as the last 10 years or so - L’occitane shower gel and foot cream, nice but predictable!

TabbyBeast · 19/11/2025 14:31

My DH is getting:

Fleece jacket and a snood
Cherry brandy
Manly fluffy socks 😂
The Spicery subscription (so me and DS get the benefit too!)
Glasses wipe (Dunelm - sausage dog pattern)
Trainer socks

I'm also putting together an emergency rucksack for the car so filling it with things like high vis tabards, first aid kit, safety pins, fire extinguisher, waterproof over trousers, emergency foil blankets, gloves, hats, foot and hand warmer pads, bag of change etc.

Ophy83 · 18/11/2025 19:18

Stockings are my very favourite part of Christmas day - no one here is too old, up to 85-yr old MIL!

DH stocking fillers include: SAXX pants, socks, a whisky miniature, chilli crisp anchovies, tickets to a comedy show, a book, chocolates, gloves.

He asked for a 200-piece Makita drill bit set as a "tree present". I've also got him the Ticket to Ride board game as he loved Destination X and Michael Portillo's great railway journeys so it looked up his street (for our big anniversary next year I think we may actually need to go on a special railway journey!). I will likely also get him a cosy hoodie.

If ypur dh wants to spend some quality time at home, you may be best off browsing the Love Honey website!

Actually, this love honey thing is a very good idea. I'm going to pick 7 various things, and make up vouchers, and then I'll give them to him in a box and he can lucky dip one each day and we'll do whatever is on the ticket 😂

My DH rarely says what he’d like but this year, he’s asked for a new casual jacket, which I’ve bought him, as well as a nice shirt, some socks and a small ‘make your own guitar’ like airfix, but wood, model kit to keep him occupied for a couple of hours. I’ll probably also pick up a nice bottle of red for him too.

He’s really difficult to buy for and I struggle every xmas and birthday.
