What are you getting your DH?

I'm a bit stumped this year. He works away, very hard and stressful. Will be back for a week probably and will want to relax, so travelling to an airB&B somewhere will not be suitable (one of my ideas, a night away, silly becuase he will just want to be at home).

I thought of hiring a hot-tub, but don't fancy the possible sex pond germs. I could book a spa day and massage, that might be a nice thing to do. We try to do experiences now instead of 'things' if we can.

I will book a restaurant, but probably for NYE, he wants home cooking when he's back and I don't want to eat out too much anyway.

He's got a dressing gown, some nice PJ's might be an option though.

He doesn't want to eat too much treat-y stuff, he wants to keep it quite healthy so chocolates and fudge etc is out. There is a particular sweet that is his favourite so I will get those for his stocking, and some chocolate coins, and a toblerone always goes in there too.

I think I've answered my question, I will do a spa day, some nice pj's to put on when back home and see what other nice homey things I can plan.
What are you getting yours?

His shoes and undies are falling to bits so that’s easily sorted

gamerchick · 18/11/2025 09:40

I asked mine and he wants a specific toolbox. Have you asked?

PermanentTemporary · 18/11/2025 09:41

I think the hot tub was a better idea than the spa day tbh, I agree with you that he’ll want to be at home.

Last year I got him a jumper from Community Clothing which was a hit, this year I’m getting him some jeans from them.

Im getting him two books he will love - Ian Leslie’s Beatles book and a graphic history called Gamesmasters.

He’s getting me a coffee machine I hope.

Tbh the exciting stuff is happening for his 60th birthday later in the year.

RafaFan · 18/11/2025 12:54

T-shirts and underwear, he's impossible to buy for! Mainly because if he wants/needs something he just buys it... I got him a French press coffee thing one year and he bought one the week before Christmas. 😬

MrsClausMaybe · 18/11/2025 14:49

If he works away, could you go and visit him for a night or two? Or treat him to something in his work-area?

Mr Claus and I exchange lists, because we are lucky enough to be able to just buy whatever for ourselves. (It helps that our tastes are naturally pretty moderate! We deliberately "save" "big things" for holiday gifts.)

This year he’s getting a fancy ski bag (requested) and socks from his favourite sock brand "from the children" (surprise). His stocking will contain lego. I think he probably also wants a new jumper, but he’s got enough of a pile, unless I see one in the sales.

Why would you husband have a stocking and PJs - that sounds like a child? Does he do a stocking for you? Just sounds so bizarre for an adult. Go with a fancy meal and a spa day

Err, because everyone should have a stocking?
And nice PJ's to put on after a relaxing/spa day, to watch films in is nice for anyone?

Of all the joyless posts I've seen on here, this place never fails to outdo itself 😂

We only do stockings too, rather than single big ticket presents - but both of our birthdays are a couple of weeks before xmas so thats the 'bigger' individual things. I pick things up throughout the year and we wrap everything individually and sit in bed unwrapping them with the kids doing theirs too.

Last years stocking for DH included chopsticks set, a red wine aerator (huge hit) a mini mens manicure kit, socks (xmas theme) a lego bart simpson (that's now started a trend and this year he's getting homer) a chocolate orange, some mini coffee syrups and new pjs.

Iliketulips · 18/11/2025 15:49

I came on here to read everyone's ideas as I need them.

Have to say though, we're another couple who do stockings even though it's just us now. Open them in bed before we get up, and to be honest I enjoy it more than opening presents around the tree. Maybe we're just big kids!

gamerchick · 18/11/2025 09:40

He'll say he doesn't want anything. He never wants anything so I try to think of things he doesn't know he needs yet 😂

Advocodo · 18/11/2025 16:06

Nothing as he buys whatever he wants/needs.

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 18/11/2025 16:17

Kraftwerk tickets. Maybe a night away. He's got everything he wants.
I'd love a stocking. Haven't had one since I was a kid and im fucking ancient now.

YorkieTheRabbit · 18/11/2025 16:24

Therabody massage ball
power bank
limited edition single malt
cognac
shaving brush
L’occitaine shower gel and soap
dark chocolate truffles
stem ginger dipped in dark chocolate
nuts
sour cherry curd, Seville orange and whisky marmalade

BigSkies2022 · 18/11/2025 17:07

Oh god. I am pretty skint this Christmas, hoping for a significant uptick in the new year. So I expect my contribution to DH’s seasonal joy will this year be confined to making the house really lovely, organising excellent meals and planning inexpensive outings of the nice ramble with dog and good coffee variety. I usually buy him a big bag of salted macadamias for his exclusive consumption, and I can stretch to that.

we don’t really do big gifts at Christmas , even in the years when we’re flush, but we often book theatre tickets or something like that. I’ve got my eye on a couple of nights in a hotel near Holt, but that’s unlikely to be in budget until early spring.

Stompythedinosaur · 18/11/2025 17:12

Dp has a December birthday, and I haven't worked out exactly which gifts will be for that and which for Christmas, but this is what I have for him.

Gas pizza oven for camping and the garden
Tickets to a comedy gig
A wool cardigan (that's very similar to one he used to have when we were dating)

I'd like to get something for his wood carving hobby, but haven't sorted that yet, and maybe a bottle of vodka.

SushiDisco · 18/11/2025 17:19

A couple of Lego sets (got him one last year and it went down very well!)
new slippers- the only thing he’s asked for
vans trainers
t shirts
chocolates

Offloadontome · 18/11/2025 17:22

I'm booking a spa break for the new year as his Xmas and birthday present and arranging childcare for it. My DH buys everything he needs and says "nothing" when I ask what he wants, so I buy experiences instead. Always enjoyable for both of us! It's not usually a night away - but in the past I've booked theatre shows, comedy night tickets and gigs I think he might like.

Ophy83 · 18/11/2025 19:18

Stockings are my very favourite part of Christmas day - no one here is too old, up to 85-yr old MIL!

DH stocking fillers include: SAXX pants, socks, a whisky miniature, chilli crisp anchovies, tickets to a comedy show, a book, chocolates, gloves.

He asked for a 200-piece Makita drill bit set as a "tree present". I've also got him the Ticket to Ride board game as he loved Destination X and Michael Portillo's great railway journeys so it looked up his street (for our big anniversary next year I think we may actually need to go on a special railway journey!). I will likely also get him a cosy hoodie.

If ypur dh wants to spend some quality time at home, you may be best off browsing the Love Honey website!

TherebytheGraceofGodgoI · 18/11/2025 20:26

After watching Diddly Squat farm with Jeremy Clarkson and his Lion mane mushrooms, I’ve preordered a grow your own box which should come just before Christmas.
I’ve also got a selection box of Belgium beers from Lidl which went down well last year and he’s asked for one again.
Also considering some Stilton cheese from Fortnum and Mason, chocolate coated nuts and goat hair socks.

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 18/11/2025 20:44

I had no idea so many people did stockings for each other! 😯
We still do them for our kids (18 and 20) but they've said we don't need to bother anymore... I'll still be bothering! When else will they get their annual Lynx sets and chocolate button tubes? 😂

But I have to ask @NoNewClothes do you not wrap the presents you put in your family stockings? I wrap each and every present in this house!

Please ignore that absolute misery! Love stockings for everyone!

Wait what? Me and my OH don’t do stockings either but I don’t find OP bizarre because they do… it’s just different to what we do.

I find it bizarre that you’d diss a stranger and call them childish just because their tradition is different from yours though. That’s quite rude

I wrap all my DC’s stocking
pressies. It’s so bloody hard wrapping the little fiddly stuff but i have to do it! 🎁

SalmonOnFinnCrisp · 18/11/2025 21:00

I bought some "their nibs" PJs...
They are really nice so then i ordered myself a semi matching set too.
(Its the lunar ones)

Yet you feel moved to comment also? She referred to making her DH a stocking not herself. They can do what they want but personally in my opinion it is a bit weird for adults to have stockings, and for your partner to give you chocolate coins like a child. If they don’t want comments, why post on Mumsnet! Home of opinions by strangers!

Coffeeismyfriend1 · 18/11/2025 21:23

Lego probably 🤣

I expect I will get Lego in return!

He likes the Lego star War ships and F1 cars. I have a lot of the botanicals and Harry Potter ones.

The kids are getting Lego too. At this point I should just pay a portion of my salary every month direct to Lego 🙈
