What are you getting your DH?

I'm a bit stumped this year. He works away, very hard and stressful. Will be back for a week probably and will want to relax, so travelling to an airB&B somewhere will not be suitable (one of my ideas, a night away, silly becuase he will just want to be at home).

I thought of hiring a hot-tub, but don't fancy the possible sex pond germs. I could book a spa day and massage, that might be a nice thing to do. We try to do experiences now instead of 'things' if we can.

I will book a restaurant, but probably for NYE, he wants home cooking when he's back and I don't want to eat out too much anyway.

He's got a dressing gown, some nice PJ's might be an option though.

He doesn't want to eat too much treat-y stuff, he wants to keep it quite healthy so chocolates and fudge etc is out. There is a particular sweet that is his favourite so I will get those for his stocking, and some chocolate coins, and a toblerone always goes in there too.

I think I've answered my question, I will do a spa day, some nice pj's to put on when back home and see what other nice homey things I can plan.
What are you getting yours?

So far I have bought him:

Lego Van Gogh Starry Night picture for his office
Concert tickets (but those are for me as well)
2 jumpers
T shirt
2 Vinyl records
Funko pop of him (I’ve had one done of all of us 😂)
Mug with our dogs photos on
A notebook for work
I have started putting together a bag of his favourite snacks which I’ll add to

I might also get him some boots for walking the dogs but the ones I know he likes seem to be out of stock constantly

I don't know yet! Reading with interest. Dh is so hard to buy for and I've done all the small ideas over the past few years. Was going to get him some headphones then he bought himself some a few weeks ago. Got a book already and would usually get some Vinted bits for him but he doesn't need anything. Foody bits maybe. God knows. I do stockings for the kids (21 and 17) and am not allowed to stop that, but we don't do them for each other, I wouldn't have enough ideas or money for a stocking for him. I'd love one for myself but can't afford it and not sure I'd trust him to get it right on our limited budget!

Why would you husband have a stocking and PJs - that sounds like a child? Does he do a stocking for you? Just sounds so bizarre for an adult. Go with a fancy meal and a spa day

What a horribly judgy post.
In our family all adults get stockings, but I wouldn't judge anyone else's family traditions.
I get for DH and he does for me and we both do for other adults who are staying over.

As for what to get for DH mine has asked for a particular bottle of wine.
He will get the obligatory PJ's, jumper, socks as well.
I am also hoping to book us a weekend away.

Tell your family you want one! Stockings are for cheap bits, the traditional chocolates, satsumas, random little things, imo airpods and the like aren't stocking fillers. The are small, yes, but they are not in the spirit of the stocking imo.

Yet you feel moved to comment also? She referred to making her DH a stocking not herself. They can do what they want but personally in my opinion it is a bit weird for adults to have stockings, and for your partner to give you chocolate coins like a child. If they don’t want comments, why post on Mumsnet! Home of opinions by strangers!

We also have tree chocolates, and it's only us two and no kids! And crackers, and when not working away or avoiding sweets, advent calendars as well 🤭

DH is so hard to buy for I'm struggling.
Doesn't go anywhere or do anything! Diabetic and heart condition so booze and snacks out. Doesn't wear aftershave. No sports or hobbies bar watching football. Got a shed full of woodwork tools that are never used and a bike that's never ridden.
Boring.

CSR721 · 18/11/2025 21:46

Tickets to go see a comedian we both like. We usually tend to gift each other experiences rather than things, unless there is something in particular either of us wants

We all have advent calendars as well, a chocolate one and then another one like beauty, Lego, beer etc. Our kids are all 16+ but love it. We can’t put chocolates on the trees because of the dogs though. 😬

elm26 · 18/11/2025 21:49

Fancy new coffee machine and his favourite aftershave he’s run out of recently, both pretty expensive purchases so nothing more from me but I’ll get him a couple of sentimental bits for him from our toddler and baby 😊

My nana and grandpa gave each other stockings in their 80s…. So apparently not.

I made one of these and put it against the wall on the dining table so our dogs can't get to it. I pin the decs/lights and chocolates to it. It works well.

Honestly that sounds great. As my name gives away I have two very young children so it will be Christmas For The Kids for the next 50 years- I think what my DH craves most is just a date night!

@Whatsthatsheila can I recommend a tip I got from here a couple years ago - buy an assortment of festively striped paper bags for wrapping stocking presents. They have been GAMECHANGING for being able to shove random small presents in and scrunch them up tightly instead of painstakingly wrapping all of them.

something like this (other retailers are available!) amzn.eu/d/gc3bgEP

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 18/11/2025 22:57

Nothing as usual.

Buying presents is a waste of time and money.

Tit for tat as Martin Lewis says.

I got my DH decent tickets for the Foo Fighters gig next summer. We missed them at Old Trafford as I miscarried & haemorrhaged the night before 😣 so hoping to replace those fairly gnarly memories with nice ones! I’ll no doubt get him some nice stocking fillers and treats too. He’s quite nerdy so always get plenty of mileage out of Star Wars, LOTR & the like paraphernalia! Last year I made him & a couple of friends mango & lime scotch bonnet hot sauce from scratch which went down a treat so will probably do something similar again this year too.

Loving seeing all the other ideas here!

Theres lotr fugglers collection in the entertainer, i hot them for my husband from the kids

frozendaisy · 18/11/2025 23:45

Token clothes present
something to open otherwise the teens will sulk

we book what we like and buy what we want/need when it’s needed unless he says “I need a new ……” between now and 25th December

or a bottle of champagne

something like that

Stockings are for children

They can be but not exclusively!

Why be so uncompromising about it?

My DD’s bf prepared her a beautiful black velvet stocking last year and in it he had wrapped really lovely earrings, mini skin care products, eyeliner, cashmere socks, a small box of her favourite chocolates and a paperback book. We were all in awe!

I prepared a stocking for my elderly mother one year in which she had luxury soaps, the Christmas edition of a gardening magazine, some gardening gloves, some seeds, hand cream etc,

A stocking can be whatever you want it to be. Lots of people when I lived in the States gave others similar presents but it was all presented in a basket. A stocking is just a container thar’s a bit more fun.

ChewbaccasMrs · 19/11/2025 04:46

I'm buying him a new jacket(he's requested still waiting for him to pick one though)some trainers, boxers and socks,PJ'S,new slippers and a nice dressing gown.

I'm also doing him a stocking(I have 8 to do this year)and this year I'm making everyone's stocking a foodie and drink one.

Not sure what else to get him yet.

EcoCustard · 19/11/2025 04:56

DH is getting a few F1/motorsport t-shirts, a nice Gant jumper, aftershave, book, socks from the dog & a teapot from me & the kids. He loves tea & always saying about it being better from a teapot.

Stocking will have: gloves, Toblerone, motorsport playing cards, mini power bank, hand cream (always splitting skin), snacks, a craft beer & a few other bits.

obviously the dog doesn’t actually purchase socks, I do but he steals them & it’s a longstanding tradition.
