What are you getting your 5yo boys?

We have DSs 5th birthday next month, and then Christmas. His list this year consists of one small item πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚ so he’s not very helpful! I think I’m pretty sorted now for birthday but I’m out of ideas for Christmas 😬

Looking for inspiration - what are you getting your 5yo boys?

My son is 5 a couple of weeks after Christmas, so a very similar age.

We won't do his actual list until slightly nearer the time (as interests seem to come and go so quickly sometimes...) but we have had a few discussions, and this is my list of what he has mentioned over the past couple of months:

-Lego Ninjago sets (the big thing he wants)
-Scooby-doo playmobile
-Monster/Kaiju toys
-soft toy swords
-next volumes of comic books in the series we have been reading
-Gems/stones/jewelery making type stuff
-minecraft blocks (not the game, they are magnetic blocks, a bit like magnetiles, but blocks that look like the ones from the game)
-1 special hotwheels car (car craze has ended, but he told me he sitll wants one "special" car

I'll normally add to it some more useful music/art/science themed stuff, and a bit of clothes.

Vtech marble rush
Bitzee Jurassic world
Goal posts
Hot Wheels RC monster truck, although I think he might be a bit too young
Playmobil castle

oooh scooby do playmobile! love it when I've actually seen a bargain people want πŸ˜†

what I actually clicked the title to suggest is an interactive dinosaur globe - needs to be used with an app for the interactive elements but my dad has got one for my great nephew and it looks really good - from the same place, we get nearly all our toys there!

Water Rokit (I know it probably needs adult input but he’s asked for a β€œreal” rocket)

Kodak compact binoculars

@Forgottenmyphonemy 2yo is getting a RC car this year because he’s a whizz with his brothers.

@NJLX2021 Thank you 😊 Science and art themed stuff always goes down well here! I’ve got him a basic electronic circuit kit for birthday which I think he will love 😊

@Forgottenmyphone I’ve got the Marble Rush for his birthday already ☺️ I think he’ll love it!
DS got a HW RC Monster Truck last year (Tiger Shark one) and absolutely loves it - although be warned if you’ve bought one- they are very rough on skirting boards πŸ˜‚πŸ«
Playmobil phase is definitely over here unfortunately! DS has a few lovely sets that he just never touches now - although he’s insisting he does play with them so they can’t be sold πŸ˜‚

@AuntieDen Thanks 😊 he got the Leapfrog Magic Adventures globe for Christmas and has no interest in it so I’ve put it away until he’s a year or 2 older.

New bike is the main birthday present as he’s needing the next size up 😊 will take a look at the other suggestions too though, thank you!

Which marble rush will you get? There's so many of them everything I start researching I get overwhelmed and give up!

we got Ds2 the VTech Marble rush launch pad one for his 5th bday in June, he loves it! (so does ds1 who is 9 haha) I think the chunkier parts are great as they're so much less breakable than other marble runs.

He will be 5.5 for Xmas and has so far asked for a Ninjago lego set and a couple of WWE wrestling figures.

we also have the RC tiger shark from last xmas - it's amazing outside and agree with the hard on the skirtings haha!

Windypopswoo · 24/10/2025 21:11

Mine is also 5 near Christmas time.

Lots of new brio accessories
New tonies box characters
Books
Imaginary world toys - a dinosaur park and an airport probably
A balance board
Playdough things
Schleich toys (he loves them!)
More magna tiles
Some Lego
Possibly playmobil
Guess who and a dinosaur version of hungry hippos

And maybe a marble rush reading this!

I fell down the marble run rabbit run a while back and ended up with the Galt Mega Marble Run set. We've been really pleased with it. It's such good quality. The sort of toy that would survive to see your grandchildren, not the bin in a month because it's cheaply made tat.

Linnetto · 24/10/2025 21:47

Yoto Player and some cards - Audio Adventures are really good
Dobble
King of Tokyo, or any accessible strategy board game
Character PJs if he's into anything

@QforCucumber πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ yes, definitely great for outside. DS builds obstacles for his in the garden. Poor thing gets sent flying off the decking etc 🫠 It’s pretty sturdy πŸ˜‚

Glad the Marble Rush went down well ☺️ we have classic plastic marble run but DS is always saying he’d like a different one so hoping he’ll love the Rush ☺️

What is this Lego Ninjago that everyone is mentioning? Where are kids seeing it? DS has no clue what that is πŸ˜…

@Windypopswoo Something new for his Brio is a good idea ☺️ Mine loves the battery steam train, the bell and the turntable if yours doesn’t have those and you’re looking for ideas πŸ™‚
We have an insane number of magnatiles 🫠 definitely his most played with toy still! But I’m trying to avoid more of those this year lol

Books are on my list - he could definitely do with a refresh in his collection. Any recommendations?

Wr have Yoto rather than Tonies so will definitely get some cards 😊 I usually do a few in his stocking 😊

@Linnetto He loves his Yoto so will be getting some cards - I’ll check out Audio Adventures, thanks ☺️ Still tempted to buy ABBA Gold on Yoto for myself every time I’m on browsing the range πŸ˜‚
DS loves board games - never heard of King of Tokyo but I’ll have a look ☺️ he loves junior monopoly currently.
Character PJs always go down well - I’ve got him some HotWheels ones as that’s a favourite in our house at the moment!

Ninjago is brilliant! I watched it with my now-11 year old and now we’re enjoying a re watch with his little brother! There have been several reboots. You want to start with β€˜rise of the snakes’. It’s on Netflix (although I don’t think all the seasons/specials are). I will admit to shedding a tear or two at times!

You know how bloody Paw Patrol was made to sell toys. Well, Ninjago was made to sell Lego sets but at least it’s actually good!

Everything Under The Sun is also a great yoto card if he hasn't already got it. Loads of facts about almost everything

Coffeeismyfriend1 · 25/10/2025 07:58

DS is 8, stuff we got him at age 5 that is still played with for hours (and DD also plays with,

shes 4.5).

Lego
Hot Wheels and tracks - the dinosaur eating carrier one is awesome - he had that last year for Xmas!
V tech marble rush sets - they all connect together
Games like monopoly/frustration/connect 4.

We have loads of Lego and hot wheels as he asks for more set every year.
