Does the velvetiser go down much in price ever? I don’t know if I can justify £150 on hot chocolate

From my experience they don’t really go down in sales or whatnot. If you join the hot chocolat VIP club (fancy name for the mailing list) you get a discount you can use though.

That’s a shame about Debenhams customer service problems. I was just impressed at some of the prices 🙂

MadeForThis · 08/10/2025 13:35

Debenhams seems to be a marketplace platform online. Items are sold by 3rd party sellers and returns seem like a nightmare.

We got our velvetiser from Amazon a couple of years ago, in the warehouse section (is that what it’s called, where they have damaged packaging or whatever?). It was perfect really and cost much less than usual. Worth keeping an eye out.

I had terrible problems with Debenhams last year. The customer service was absolutely shocking, they sent me (and charged me) for my order twice and made me send every item back (to the same retailer) individually even though all the parcels were going to the same address. It was so stressful and I have vowed never to shop there again!!

I have to agree, had the same issues and then delivered to the wrong address and wouldn’t refund me. Never again.

I have 5% cashback with boots via Halifax, Plus 2% on top cashback, Three Rituals gifts here for £35. Double advantage points, free delivery over £35. and the free gift looks substantial

Thanks I ordered. Another family member ticked off the list.

sillygoof · 08/10/2025 13:49

Boots are doing an Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour cream set with four products for £27.90. I’ve wanted some for ages but been looking out for a good offer. I had a double points on my advantage card too.

Apologies for the requests, but I also need to find some nice silver drop earrings for my 67-year old mum. Hot Diamonds doesn't seem to have their usual mega-deal offers on at the mo, so any recommendations for nice but affordable places to look would be good - I'm never sure how much on Etsy is just Chinese drop-shipped stuff these days. Budget £20-30. Thanks for all your help!

Hot Diamonds have a sale on some of their necklaces - they’re already reduced and a further 30% lopped off with code NECKLACE30!

thanks also for the Gisela Graham tip in sports direct of all places. The P&P was painful but I mopped up on some amazing decs plus excellent candles that I can shove in the present drawer.

Thanks @hugsandpugs for the Smiths tip, used the 20% off to get some lego for DS2 bday in a few weeks and for DS1 for Christmas! Love a code that works on sale items 😂

gingerbreadmumm · 08/10/2025 14:09

thanks for all the replies re the Velvetier - I don't think I want to spend £150 on one, as I was thinking it to be more of a stocking filler type gift. He tends to mix Nutella into milk for his "hot chocolate" - would a velvetier thing work on that?

Tips on a good alternative one would be great - have looked at the John Lewis and pro cook ones (as recommended earlier) x

Londonmummy66 · 08/10/2025 14:11

Thank you to whoever posted the link for the personalised glasses cloths. Mine arrived this morning and are great. £2! each - ideal stocking fillers.

TheBigBagBabes · 08/10/2025 14:17

Anyone ordering from the Sainsbury’s TU 20% off, there is also an extra 10% off with blue light that works on Sainsbury’s website and Argos website, I’ve just got 3 adult pairs of Christmas pj’s for £34.56!

InbetweenDreams · 08/10/2025 14:23

I’ve also had bad experiences with Debenhams the last couple of years and have ended up deciding that even when the prices are low, they’re never worth it! I had an item shrink after 1 wash, shoes that are too narrow for feet to get into but loose ankle straps etc. Just not worth it in my opinion.

Theraffarian · 08/10/2025 14:41

Adding my thanks for the person who recommended Rosemart for the personalised glass cleaning cloth , it arrived today and was such a clear photo , I’m going to have a look at some other bits now that the first couple were so quick to arrive .

Many of the sellers in Superseconds sale were selling nice silver drop earrings, either at full-price or in the sale. I may have bought some myself.

That search is filtered for jewellery and sale continuing this week, but if you’re not interested in sale things do a new search just for jewellery.

Christmasdreaming · 08/10/2025 14:44

Dualit make the hotel chocolate velvetiser

dh bought me a dualit one a few years ago and it’s been great, about half the price. We use powders, syrups, Nutella etc

also use it for iced coffees in the summer, it’s been great

only downside is the hot drinks are more of a warm temp then hot but I pop mine in the microwave for 30 secs after, no one else does so I think i just prefer a very hot drink

Does anyone remember the discount code for multiple items? I've tried searching but I don't even remember if it was this thread or the previous one. Everyone wears glasses in my family so this sounds like a nice stocking filler for all!

hey

My DS has recently got into making hot chocolates for himself - are the hotel chocolate velvetisers worth the money or is there a decent one, cheaper? do the actually heat the milk or just stir it?

thanks

We have a velvetiser and use it frequently, it heats and stirs so you can dump plain cocoa and sugar in with cold milk and it makes it into a lovely hot smooth drink with a bit of foam on top, much easier than mixing it by hand in a saucepan. I expect a cheaper version would be just as good though as the technology is pretty simple.

Yes it will mix anything in - we add mini marshmallows and they completely melt and make it really creamy and yummy.

DS14 has asked for some weights for Christmas.

Can anyone recommend weighs that would be suitable for a waif teen boy? Think he’s hoping it will turn him into a tall burly man! 😂

As he’ll be a beginner, are there any weights that would be suitable for him? Wanting something that is reasonably priced, given that I’m not sure how committed he will be long term.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hello - I've never shopped from this website before so can't vouch for it, but there is a sale on: https://gymsets.co.uk/collections/dumbbells
We have adjustable dumbbells in our garage which are quite unattractive and a bit clunky but cheaper than getting individual ones.. they would allow your son to progress through different weights - they aren't cheap though £80 for one dumbbell in the sale

Can anyone recommend decent skincare for acne prone teenage DS? He’s been using bulldog and tried MooGoo but no improvement as yet!

The Spot and Stripes one made a huge improvement for my teen DS. The packaging is a bit babyish but it really works.

Pastasleepbookswine · 08/10/2025 14:59

What's the smyths offer please? I have looked and can't find it. Annoying I've done an order for DCs birthday! X
