This post is a work in process and if you have any links you’d like to share or would be good to add then please do let me know. The general consensus for the thread is to share any bargainous links, ideas and/or discount codes or information. No affiliate links (is that the right word?) And any referral links to the separate thread linked below. This is a warm, friendly, kind and cosy corner of mn filled with Christmas cookies and hot chocolate - let’s keep it that way!

If you have any referral links then please post on this thread https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212180-bargain-referrals-thread-7 and share around the joy/referral perks.

does anyone have a yoto player for older kids? My 8 year old asked me recently for a Toni box but I told her she was too old for it. I wonder would the yoto player to better?

My 6 year old has it and whilst not as old as yours there's a lot for older kids especially if she likes quizzes, games etc.. not just stories. They also have a daily podcast which my DS loves and 8 year old would easily love!

Would you comfortable sharing which one you have decided to purchase pease? I'm looking for my son, but have no idea where to start or what I'm even looking for. Thank you.

https://amzn.eu/d/39R0tjt

I've started setting it up briefly just to check it's working and it looks fab! I got a case from ali express.

Blessedbethefruitz · 07/10/2025 17:21

@juicyjellybaby my son is 7 in January and loves his yoto. I made kpop demon hunters music cards last week with myo cards - they are the key for us.

Hello! Does anyone know if Dryrobe does a pre-Christmas or Black Friday sale? I’d like to get one or similar for DS6 for Christmas. They’re quite steep at £110 currently…

and thank you to the poster who shared the Smiggle sale - I picked up some really good stocking gifts and a couple for the birthday parties stash. Really big discounts.

If the brand doesn’t matter all three of my DC have the regatta ones and they are fab! Currently £25-30 depending on size on Amazon!

hugsandpugs · 07/10/2025 17:28

Or the dry robes for kids are currently £30 on regatta with an extra 10% off with the code TAKE10, also the potiental for cashback through top cashback etc too!

Ughy · 07/10/2025 17:30

@lovealongbath @Penguinbeaver We have the naturespy and it’s great. We set it up over the summer and had very little interest initially so not sure if it was the time of year or the fact that the birds need time to discover it, but we have some good interest now. It’s AI and will tell you what breed of bird it is, which is fab. Not cheap though and I couldn’t get a discount, even having held my nerve for a few weeks. Not for profit organisation though so I don’t begrudge it.

IfyoushouldmeetaCrocodile · 07/10/2025 17:37

@juicyjellybaby My dd had her Yoto at 6, she's now 12 and it still gets used every day despite now having a phone/Alexa etc! She's just bought Phillip Pullmans Dark Material card with her birthday money, there is loads of content for older kids. We have the regular and a mini.

Can anybody recommend a microscope for a seven year old?

ChristmasJumperz · 07/10/2025 17:41

I don't personally have experience of this but it was recommended here last year. Little Kodak photo printer for mobile phones, think it's been at £99 recently down to £69.99 for prime day. I've risked it as I don't think will get something like this much cheaper and I know dd will love it https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08FST3H95

The fire tablets (at least the kids ones) aren't android, you cant download from the playstore or watch YouTube (even kids) on them unless your jail break it.

We've had the kids fire tablets 2/3 years ago and honestly don't rate them (except the case they come with, they're brilliant). Theyre slow and clunky and the lack of android makes them useless for us now. This year ds is getting an android tablet, I found one with amazing specs for gaming/streaming for him for £120.

I would echo this. After buying Kindle Kids device after Kindle Kids device, and spending literally hours of my time jail breaking (and having to do it all over again 2 weeks later when an app updated) we eventually cut our losses and moved to iPads.

A big upfront cost but they’re both on the iPads still that they got 5 years ago whereas I was replacing the Kindles every 2 years or so.

Eventually I looked at how much my own time was worth (and the sinking feeling in my chest every time one of those awful devices needed updating).

I've just upgraded my 9 year olds Yoto to a mini so she can carry it around better - she still uses her original a lot. On the other hand my 11 year old has moved on to an echo now so there definitely is a ceiling.

Found these football kids on the Asda George sale. £7 each plus 20% back on PayPal cash back. Also a cute Harry Potter anime tshirt

Hi,

i have a PS5 (disc version) and another controller to buy this year.

Argos currently have the disc one down in price to £425. Do you think this will come down any lower? Should I wait for Black Friday or get it now?
Any help with this or the controller is appreciated!
Thank you.

DaffodilsInAJamjar · 07/10/2025 19:09

Free delivery today on e.l.f, plus an offer of a free mini primer. (3 sorts to choose from.)

If you’ve been banking the points on their app for browsing their socials all year, there are various free products you can redeem them on too. I got 3 products delivered for £4.

Amazon do great handheld microscopes which are easy for kids to use. They have 1000x zoom and my daughters absolutely love them. You can buy them from other websites too.

(I bought that one for £11 the other week from the website which I'm not allowed to mention on this thread (begins with a T and rhymes with emu 😅).)

I bought DS6 a Regatta one on Amazon that is £26 at the moment. It’s lovely, and has Velcro adjustable wrists so the sleeves don’t drown him. I got the 5-9 yrs, he’s in some 5-6yr clothes still it reaches mid calf on him.

Have to say I totally agree with this after buying 3 of the kindle devices. Each lasted just over a year and needed constant updating / faffing atound with and had so many problems with the memory. I'm going back a lot of years here, but having switched to ipads, mines still going strong 8 years later, and DDs is at least 5 years old and works perfectly.

https://amzn.to/3J1qnoK 28 inch Barbie doll on Amazon down to 19.99 seems to be about £30 elsewhere will look impressively sized in its box I imagine!
