This isn't a thing I or my family have ever done. But online, I see that some people do. Do you?

No as there's already too much but they would be perfect with it 😋

PyongyangKipperbang · 01/10/2025 22:39

Ok I think I am about to jumped on here.....but what is the fucking point of bread sauce?

Its just more gloop! Gloop doesnt belong anywhere near gravy, it adds nothing to the meal and is yet another job to do on an already busy day.

Why? Yes I have had it, I have had it made by someone who has won awards as a chef and I still dont get the point!

I’m not going to jump on you, like what you like but I think it tastes so good. I didn’t have it until I was 40 and feel like I’ve missed out for all those years. A Boxing Day sandwich with turkey, ham stuffing, bread sauce and cranberry sauce is perfection.

RosesAndHellebores · 01/10/2025 23:53

No, we have them with beef.
Turkey
Pigs
Stuffing
Good turkey gravy
Parsnips
Roasties
Sprouts
Runner beans
Carrots
Bread sauce
Cranberry

DiscoBeat · 02/10/2025 00:52

We never usually do but my stepson made them a couple of years ago and they did go really well with it!

Properly made bread sauce is delicious! It really adds something to the turkey imo. I always make it

QueenOfCastille · 02/10/2025 01:01

Of course. They are my favourite part.

I love bread sauce. I don't put chestnuts in stuffing because I don't much like them. DH can't stick parsnips.

It is perfectly valid not to like what others like.

I always thought I hated bread sauce into my 40s too but that was because I'd only ever tasted my mum's which didn't really taste of anything except cloves. Then I made my own one year and now I love it.

I have to say I totally disagree about the Boxing Day sandwich though, I can't think of anything I'd less rather have the next day. We don't like leftovers, cook quantities to avoid them and generally freeze anything we do get left with.

Elektra1 · 02/10/2025 08:13

Yorkshires are served with every roast dinner in my house. There would be a mutiny if they weren’t!

I’m completely with you on the bread sauce, but suspect we are in the minority!

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 02/10/2025 08:19

Yes! They always get eaten

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 02/10/2025 08:47

Yes, although I make them in advance, freeze & pop them on top of the roast potatoes/parsnips for the final 10 mins.

I make 12 anyway on a roast day & freeze what we don’t use, ready for the next Sunday roast. No one’s noticed any difference in quality or flavour & saves a job (and oven space) next time!

Dutchhouse14 · 02/10/2025 09:10

No!
Enough food and enough to fit in oven as it is.

However for a normal Sunday roast I do always do Yorkshire puddings

KiwiFall · 02/10/2025 09:21

Yorkshire lass here. DH always wants them and as he cooks Christmas Day we usually have them. (I’m just the kitchen assistant but I usually do actually make them!). I wouldn’t mind not having them as there’s so much already on the plate.

BellaBlister · 02/10/2025 10:13

We have Yorkshire pudding with any gravy meal. But we also have mint sauce at Christmas! And macaroni! No cauliflower cheese though.

I'm all for "There are a multitude of opinions in life, live and let live" etc, but you have gone too far!!! 😡

Anyway, am now going to pre-make some Yorkies and freeze them. That way I can have a few sessions in order to produce one or two edible ones 😆

There would be a protest here if there were no Yorkshire puddings!

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 02/10/2025 12:16

My kids would riot if there were no yorkshires with any form of roast, we rarely have turkey. I get aunt Bessie’s though and just shove them in the oven when everything is out.

Cashew22 · 02/10/2025 12:36

No, but I once spent Christmas with my (now ex-)boyfriend's family and they had giant Yorkshire puddings the size of the plate. They actually used to serve the Christmas dinner inside the Yorkshire pudding! (My ex also had pasta bake with his roast dinner, though, so they were a bit unusual in that regard!)

I’m with you!! What even is it and why?!?

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 02/10/2025 12:46

Only if we were having beef, which TBH is highly unusual.

Speaking as (nearly always) the cook, I’ve got more than enough to think about, what with loads of pigs in Bs, stuffing, all the veg, proper gravy, etc.

TBH I never understand how people manage so many sides, 2 or 3 different kinds of potatoes, etc.

InMyShowgirlEra · 02/10/2025 12:47

Never did growing up but we do now. Everyone loves Yorkshire puddings with a roast dinner so why wouldn't we?

MiddleAgedDread · 02/10/2025 12:40

It is my opinion that people who think they don't like bread sauce have never had good/properly made bread sauce 😁
