This isn't a thing I or my family have ever done. But online, I see that some people do. Do you?

Yes, with every roast dinner.

Itbeginswith · 30/09/2025 18:01

Yes because we have roast beef.

ERthree · 30/09/2025 18:02

It would be a ruined meal if i didn't make Yorkshire's for Christmas dinner, i honestly think there would be tears.

No, I'd rather gorge on potatoes than Yorkshires.

Flakey99 · 30/09/2025 18:05

It’s a roast chicken, Yorkies, roast spuds, (chips for DS), carrots, parsnips, broccoli, gravy for me and cauliflower cheese for DH.

No starters but maybe ice cream for pudding?

DH and DS are very fussy eaters so there’s no point me bothering with a full traditional Christmas dinner. 🤷🏻‍♀️

ALDI own brand large frozen yorkshires with beef dripping are really good. A million times better than Aunt Bessie’s if you don’t want to bother making your own.

MrsMitford3 · 30/09/2025 18:06

My family would riot if there were no yorkshires.

I know it's not strictly the "right kind of roast" for them but it is Christmas and it makes everyone happy!!

WhereDidSummerGoAgain · 30/09/2025 18:09

Yes! But then we're vegetarians so we're already wantonly breaking Christmas dinner traditions.

Dontcallmescarface · 30/09/2025 18:10

Back in the day when I used to cook Christmas dinner, yep always have a Yorkie or 2.

Notagain75 · 30/09/2025 18:11

Yes but only because I am asked to. I think it's wrong!

moresoup · 30/09/2025 18:12

Of course. I 'm from Yorkshire and it's not a proper roast if there aren't Yorkshire puddings involved!

I don't get the "right kind of roast" thing. In Yorkshire we definitely ate Yorkshire puddings with every kind of roast. It wasn't till I moved down south that I came across them only being served with beef. Very bizarre

clipboardz · 30/09/2025 18:13

Nope, they don't belong there imo

HighLadyofTheNightCourt · 30/09/2025 18:14

Yes. They get served with every roast dinner in our house.

And oysters were to fill up space in pies and poached wild salmon was poor people food in Scotland.

There are plenty of delicious foods that had humble beginnings.

I agree about oysters & salmon.
But egg+flour+milk cooked in fat is not delicious - no matter the provenance of the ingredients.

themonkeysnuts · 30/09/2025 18:22

i serve them with anything and definitely with Christmas dinner

PyongyangKipperbang · 30/09/2025 18:25

We never have until now because we always went to my mothers and she is ridiculously anal about things like that.

Yorkshires only with beef, mint sauce only with lamb blah blah. I once suggested it and she was furious. Same reaction when I suggested having dinner in the evening rather than at lunch time. Seriously, she hit the bloody roof. As for mashed-potato-gate...that one ran and ran.

However, this year I am not going there so yes we will be having yorkshires! We probably will have chicken though as thats the only meat DD and I eat.

Pennyhillxxx · 30/09/2025 18:26

Absolutely not .

CrowsInMyGarden · 30/09/2025 18:27

@JadziaD No. He uses Crack’d, an egg replacement. The recipe is on their website/product label.

Lulu1919 · 30/09/2025 18:30

Yes yes yes

Lulu1919 · 30/09/2025 18:31

Just remembered
A few years ago we all went out to lunch on Xmas day ..smart pub
My daughters found out that Yorkshire Puds were not on the menu so we took some with us !!!

captainoctopus · 30/09/2025 18:33

I never make Yorkshire pudding. Occasionally I make a baked suet pudding with a roast (suet, flour, a few raisins, water). Lovely soaked in gravy. AFAIK it's a West Country thing - I am originally from Devon.

Newbutoldfather · 30/09/2025 18:33

YABVU!

Oops, wrong forum, but you are.

Yorkshires are for roast beef only. It would like serving boiled potatoes and bolognaise sauce.

ItsFridayIminLoveJS · 30/09/2025 18:36

Of course.. Big home made ones.. I'm from Yorkshire.. we have them with every roast dinner. When l was young and lived at home with my parents we always had them as a starter.

sueelleker · 30/09/2025 19:10

I serve yorkshires with any roast meat.

I'm always happy to have a yorkshire with beef, chicken, turkey, but weirdly I'm not sure I'd like it (or have ever had it) with lamb;
