This isn't a thing I or my family have ever done. But online, I see that some people do. Do you?

Cauliflower cheese does not belong on Xmas Dinner.

That is a hill I am prepared to die on!

Agree, there is no place for cauliflower cheese in a roast dinner.

No because dauphinoise parsnip and squash is the way to go.

Readyforslippers · 01/10/2025 06:36

They are the crowning glory of any roast, they definitely must be included in our house

ComfortFoodCafe · 01/10/2025 06:51

Yes yorkshire puddings are a staple of christmas dinner aka my kids refuse to eat it without them 😂

Definitely not. Each to their own but dauphinoise and roast don't go together either, or anything with cream, cheese etc. In fact dauphinoise is one of the few dishes I'd rather not eat at all with any meal.

curious79 · 01/10/2025 06:57

Only ever with beef

ApricotCheesecake · 01/10/2025 07:00

No

pontivex · 01/10/2025 07:34

I can’t get my head around people who can only countenance having Yorkshire puds with beef. Why? Why wouldn’t they go with chicken, lamb, turkey, goose whatever? As with PPs we service them with any roast. Even fish!

Also pubs. ‘Lamb served with mint sauce’. ‘Beef served with Yorkshire pudding’. wtf? Mint sauce is NOT a substitute for a bloody YP! And the looks you get when you ask for YP with lamb or even mint sauce with beef (yum).

Thissickbeat · 01/10/2025 07:37

Yes! Second best part after the roast potatoes.

Well if you don’t like it, you’d never agree 😁. I loooove a bit of gloop with my roasts

DysonLover1 · 01/10/2025 08:54

Only with roast beef. The M&S fresh Yorkshire Puddings aren’t bad if it’s too stressful to make your own and a step up from Aunt Bessie.

I don't like dauphinoise. I love cauliflower cheese but it does not go with roast dinner. As a main it's one of my favourite meals though.

Yes, with every roast!

Hayley1256 · 01/10/2025 18:55

Yes - Look fab with the pigs in blankets in them

MrsWhites · 01/10/2025 19:19

There would be a revolt in my family if no Yorkshire puddings were served on Christmas Day!

That said, we don’t have braised cabbage, bread sauce or cranberries with ours - my friend was absolutely mind blown when she found out and she also hates the idea of Yorkshire puds at Christmas.

Cakeandcardio · 01/10/2025 19:27

I have never had them on Christmas but I do love them. If you want lovely ones without the stress of having the oven at the right temp for making them from scratch then I would suggest M and S fresh ones

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 01/10/2025 19:29

I'd serve Yorkies with sandwiches if I could.

I serve them with all forms of roast meat and have also been known to eat them buttered instead of toast.

Probably explains quite a lot about me, really.

BebbanburgIsMine · 01/10/2025 19:32

Yes, my daughter loves them. We have a more simple lunch than others, we never have turkey because we don’t like it.

We have roast chicken, roast tatties, yorkshires, carrots, peas, green beans and skirlie (Scottish side dish). There’s just the two of us and we love a quiet Christmas.

EmpressoftheMundane · 01/10/2025 19:36

No definitely not. No yorkshire puddings at Xmas dinner. The extras for Xmaa dinner are pigs in blankets, bread sauce, cranberry sauce, and stuffing.

Yorkshires go with beef.
Apple sauce with Pork.
Mint sauce with Lamb.

Usernumber36373647323 · 01/10/2025 20:48

Absolutely! Usually just frozen ones though, my dp is great at making them but we find not enough oven space on Christmas so we go for the type that cook quick, cheap from Tesco!

Mumwithbaggage · 01/10/2025 21:16

Of course! They just go in when everything else comes out. Kids (adult) would be shocked if not!!

Mumwithbaggage · 01/10/2025 21:19

Home made cranberry sauce, bread sauce, cauliflower cheese, yorkshire puddings, veggie option for the 2 veggies, red cabbage, pigs in blankets, 2 stuffings... no wonder when I sit down to eat I'm not hungry!!

WilfredsPies · 01/10/2025 21:52

RuttleTuttle · 30/09/2025 16:49

I am terrified of Yorkshire puddings 😆

Do you do them on the day, or previously? I could try and make some earlier, and freeze them.

We do them a week or so beforehand, freeze them, defrost them Christmas Eve and balance them in the oven wherever there’s a bit of space. They come out beautifully.

Completely agree with this.

Also pubs. ‘Lamb served with mint sauce’ And they expect credit for that! You might as well say ‘burgers served with ketchup’ or ‘soup served with a spoon’. Of course roast lamb should be served with mint sauce. What sort of roast lamb dinner isn’t served with mint sauce? But it’s not a substitute for Yorkies.
