Nomsdeplume · 20/09/2025 17:25

hello,

what are you all buying your 6 year old girls? Or can you please share what was a success last year?

We don’t need a new bike or scooter this year are the current ones fit.

Thank you

Following!

My 6 year old twins are suddenly quite hard to buy for this year. They don't play with toys so much anymore. They have both asked for a ukulele and "anything Kpop Demon Hunters themed"...

I also have a fan of the k-pop demon hunters songs here!

She will not be six until closer to Christmas, but very much still plays with toys at the moment. I’m still finding it very difficult this year!

DD is 6 at beginning of December.

Looking at getting her something from;

  • Inline roller skates
  • Barbie
  • scooter
  • magna tiles
  • football net and new ball
  • gymnastics balance beam
  • books
  • fun stationery (letter writing sets, notebooks, cards etc)
  • Sylvanian Families
  • Board games (junior catan, my first ticket to ride, sleeping queens)
  • Hot wheels track

Thank you! We already have most of those things, plus a lot of Barbie and Sylvanians and they are all big hits. Magnatiles are loved by everyone in our house.

The balance beam is a great idea! Thank you

... what do they spend their indoor time doing if not playing with toys?

I think it's because there are two of them - they're constantly making up games together. They've got very good imaginations and are always role playing. They build dens, play vets with their many many soft toys (they definitely don't need any more of them 😂) and they love doing "fashion shows". They love singing, dancing, baking and drawing. But they've never really been into dolls / Lego type stuff / play sets.

merryandbrightdelight · 20/09/2025 21:52

Everyone who’s saying K Pop Demon Hunters - I’ve just ordered some pjs from TikTok shop, they’ve got bags and blankets and all sorts

katmarie · 20/09/2025 21:52

I have a similar challenge. My dd is 6 at the end of next month, has an 8yo brother, and between them they seem to have everything they need.

So far I have a Galt chemistry set, and a new fluffy onesie on the list. I have to buy for both birthday and Christmas so I am very stumped at the moment!

merryandbrightdelight · 20/09/2025 21:55

So far ours hasn’t asked for anything yet - waiting for the Smyths catalogue to arrive however she loves crafts so we have got her some stationary and bits, a stitch onesie, paper for her printable camera, a thick velvet Elsa dress up dress (TK Maxx do some beautiful ones) and a mermaid tale blanket (again, TK Maxx)

Disneyland2022 · 20/09/2025 22:47

Last year we got the ‘tasty tinies’ baking range ( you use a tiny baking kit to make tiny cakes) super cute! Also gabbys dollhouse Lego which is fab!!

why does 6 feel so difficult!?

we previously brought the Playmobil horse playset - super cute but tbh think she’s just growing into that now.

My DD loves roleplay , and especially being a vet, she uses her doctor's kit and some old bandages I found and cut up, from an expired first aid kit. You know the compression bandage that comes in a roll. Some wound dressing etc Her cuddly toys are forever breaking and cutting legs/ears/arms 😂

She loves her Sylvanian Families and will act out all sorts, so maybe that's something?

At that age my DD liked:

— fruit bubble tea kit

— marble run

— board games, eg. Dobble, Monopoly, Cluedo, Uno, Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza (or whatever it’s called), Throw Throw Burrito, Sussed etc.

— stationery: notelets, stickers, pens, glow in the dark and glitter gel pens, nice pencil sets eg. from Faber Castell, paper and notebooks. Djeco do some great writing sets and Smiggle stationery was big for that age group. If you DD likes cats, Tesco bought out Paperchase and they have some very cute ranges with animals in bigger Tesco stores.

— a big hit with DD at that age was a lovely musical jewellery box - Djeco have some really gorgeous ones!

— a make your own bath bomb kit

— crystal growing kit

— gemstones set

— all kids that age love Jellycats (but Squishmallows are cheaper!)

— crafts like a French knitting dolly, a weaving loom and first sewing kits

— flower press

— lots of jewellery making kits. A cheapo box kit of beads and elastic string went down very well (you can find these on Amazon, eBay etc.)

— DD was into loom bands at 6 but that fad may have just passed!

— at 6 DD still liked dressing up clothes, especially some of the posher Disney Princess costumes like Belle; and butterfly wings

— Lego, Lego and more Lego

— DD also liked Little Live pets, at 6 the bird in particular; and also the clockwork hamsters in plastic balls which are from a different brand, I forget the name but you can get them in The Entertainer

— for inspiration, look at Rex London which has loads of stuff perfect for this age

Children’s alexa
Headphones
smart watch (the kids garmin one looks good!)

Frazzledandfried · 20/09/2025 23:20

Ooh following for some great ideas! We love all the orchard games here, pop to the shops is a current favourite and starts to teach them about money too.

Flubadubba · 21/09/2025 08:08

I think 6 is a weird age, as they are suddenly less influenced (DD just turned into 6) abs ate starting to have their own real, proper interests ans voicing them.

Top of DD's list is yet more squishalongs, a fashion design set, more beads, a jewellery box (for the Claire's stuff she has), more Yoto cards and some additions to her Miraculous Playmobil. She would also like more gemstones (she has a collection).

DameWishalot · 21/09/2025 08:14

Den kit? You can buy them or I made one for DNiece - decorate a big box, fill with a thin blanket, some old (clean!) flat sheets, lots of pegs, shoe laces, a carabiner, string of fairy lights, etc.

Disneyland2022 · 21/09/2025 21:29

Can we keep this thread alive because I need ongoing inspiration. I’ve got Christmas and a birthday to sort 🙈

My Lg has been reading the ‘little princess’ books & I want to get another collection that’s more of a challenge. I’m thinking horrid Henry books. She’s a superb reader. Any other suggestions?

merryandbrightdelight · 21/09/2025 21:52

I’ve bought face paint pens today - I’ve no doubt that come Boxing Day I’ll look like I’ve put my make up on in the dark with my feet but she’ll enjoy them I’m sure 🤣

Finchgold · 21/09/2025 22:12

Skateboard
keyboard
camera- vtech is good or those cheap instant ones look fun
marble run

I don’t know how you can have run out of ideas 6 years in!

TheDisillusionedAnarchist · 21/09/2025 22:13

Playmobil and dolls stuff (she has a list) she’s ridiculously easy to buy for though.

Nomsdeplume · 21/09/2025 22:14

Thank you all! Lots of great ideas.
