hello,

what are you all buying your 6 year old girls? Or can you please share what was a success last year?

We don’t need a new bike or scooter this year are the current ones fit.

Thank you

Skateboard
keyboard
camera- vtech is good or those cheap instant ones look fun
marble run

I don’t know how you can have run out of ideas 6 years in!

Thank you. I think the problem is that we have so much! We mainly focussed on lots of magnetic tiles, duplo, quality open ended play (which we still have) when they were little, so then have also ended up with the vast majority of what has been suggested above before now. They love their skateboard and instant camera,
plus we have a piano.

They obviously don’t need much, it was more to get an idea of what the popular toys are this year for girls.

I think 6 is a weird age, as they are suddenly less influenced (DD just turned into 6) abs ate starting to have their own real, proper interests ans voicing them.

Top of DD's list is yet more squishalongs, a fashion design set, more beads, a jewellery box (for the Claire's stuff she has), more Yoto cards and some additions to her Miraculous Playmobil. She would also like more gemstones (she has a collection).

Thank you! I totally agree, that’s why I am trying to gauge what is popular with girls of a similar age this year!

Can I ask where you get their gemstones from please? Some of these would be right up my dd’s street!

A lot came from a cheap advent calendar last year (via Amazon). She also has some books that came with them, and the local museum sells them too. Occasionally a guy in the local market too.

Probably not helpful, I realise 😆

My typing on that post was shocking!

My DD is 7 but seems younger so following for ideas. So far the only things she’s asked for so far are a big Care Bear plush, a tambourine and a rock hammer for geodes…such a random list Hmm

Sounds like a list DD (6 couple of weeks ago). She couldn't conceal her flight when the first present she opened was...Blue Tack.

Can we keep this thread alive because I need ongoing inspiration. I’ve got Christmas and a birthday to sort 🙈

My Lg has been reading the ‘little princess’ books & I want to get another collection that’s more of a challenge. I’m thinking horrid Henry books. She’s a superb reader. Any other suggestions?

My DD6 loves the Rainbow Fairies books!

Same (I hate them as they are so badly written, but needs must!). They also do early reader versions if needed... Check charity shops- I always see them in there, and got a massive pile for £10.

The Isadora Moon books are much better innterms of plot and writing, and aimed at this age group (think the author also has a couple of related series- Mirabelle? Emerald?).

Agree, they're not exactly Tolstoy 😅
But my DD gets a real sense of achievement from reading a "proper chapter book" and these have really fuelled her enthusiasm for reading semi independently so we are rolling with it!

CoffeeChocolateWine · 22/09/2025 22:02

The Kitty books are pretty good for this age. And Mirabelle.

Ideas from my 6 year olds Christmas list and recent birthday list (doesn’t really play with toys anymore):

  • LOL dolls
  • Lego
  • Board games
  • Balance beam
  • Football kits
  • 3d sticker making kit
  • Pen creator studio
  • Decorate your own water bottle (Smyths £7 bargain)
  • Rainbocorns
  • Card games
  • Character clothing and crocs (stitch etc. I don’t buy clothes for gifts at this age unless fun clothing)
  • Fun stationary
  • Switch 2 and games (main Christmas present)
  • Camera
  • Hatchimal
  • Magic mixies (couldron and genie lamp)
  • 3d card making kit
  • Squishmallows
  • Lockable secret diary (with invisible pen)
  • Hama beads
  • Little live pets

I am also debating Disney on ice tickets, would they be interested in a show/ musical?

That's true!

Just remembered another thing: we use our Yoto a lot. We have various music cards (Spice Girls went down well) as well as book ones and a few film/TV ones (Miraculous is a current favourite).

Also, we are drowing in craft stuff - so many kits for her birthday thay make her very happy! The favourites were a fairy terrarium, scrap booking kit, scented bracelet making kit and a doodle dip. The most played with toy is a Squishalong backpack that converts into a party house for them (and doubles as storage). Mini magic mixies went down well too.

I also go this for xmas, as I have such fond memories of the fashion wheel as a kid: https://www.ryman.co.uk/kidzmaker-my-design-portfolio-fashion-studio-1 (is £8 more on Amazon!).

Oh... and the most played with toy with anyone comes round is definitely hexbugs and their playground. Hours and hours of fun!

OneCleverPinkFawn · 23/09/2025 08:40

Glowing stickers
Hair accessories
Washable hair sprays of different colors
Temporary tattoos
3d puzzle kit
3d card making kit
Something related to her favorite movies or artists? Could be something from official merch store or clothes with logo/character printed, maybe a custom calendar with her favorite characters/artists (here is how you can make one)
Kinetic sand set
Science kit

In terms of previous successes, a couple of things that my daughter loved for her birthday…
Pen creator studio
Squishy maker
Airbrush fashion design kit

The squishy maker made a right mess but she did love it!

I second the pen creator and airbrush sets! Mine got these for her birthday and also loved them

Edited

Our 6 year olds are obviously similar as my DD has requested lots of items from this list.
’toys’ are kind of gone now and she’s asking for lol dolls, rainbocorns and squishmallows.
I know she likes them but it feels like a lot of (what I’d call) nothing.

Disney on ice is an amazing shout! My mum pays for my 3 year old swimming lessons instead of presents so maybe she’d gift DD tickets to this. Thanks! Xx

Definitely, they feel like a waste of money sometimes, paying for the packaging or a one use thing like the magic mixies but she loves them. She loves the surprise toys too.

We’ve had family gift days out too which was nice. Paying for swimming lessons is a great idea. My mum gave my DC gift cards for Christmas and birthdays for clothes up until they were about 5 and wanted to choose their own presents.

My Daughter was on the verge of turning 6 last Christmas. Some popular gifts she enjoyed were:-

a gem stone dig kit. She has done loads of these now but still loves them and asks for them

a pillow made from a photo of our cat

Sticki Rolls

Squishmallow

Isadora Moon and Kitty books

A pin board for her bedroom to display her best drawings etc along with some cute cat pins

lapuf · 24/09/2025 06:26

My littlest DD just turned 7 and by far the most popular present from her birthday was a gymnastics bar from Amazon, she’s developed a six pack in a month!
she also loved a Harry Potter squishmallow and a secret diary

she’s asked for little live pets and magic mixie for Christmas

AnitaJayne · 01/11/2025 10:59

My 6 year old has asked for the Monster High haunted High school.
