Reastie · 14/09/2025 19:30

I certainly don't want an unhinged crab for Christmas Grin

This post is a work in process and if you have any links you’d like to share or would be good to add then please do let me know. The general consensus for the thread is to share any bargainous links, ideas and/or discount codes or information. No affiliate links (is that the right word?) And any referral links to the separate thread linked below. This is a warm, friendly, kind and cosy corner of mn filled with Christmas cookies and hot chocolate - let’s keep it that way!

If you have any referral links then please post on this thread https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212180-bargain-referrals-thread-7 and share around the joy/referral perks.

A not very festive warning about roller blades. Please ensure your child uses knee pads. 4 weeks ago adult DS fell before he even pushed off to start skating , ( he has been skating for years). He shattered his kneecap into 4 pieces. He had an operation to wire the pieces back together and it will months before he will be able to resume his sporting activities. The right safety gear is so important. End of public service announcement!

I had nothing like as bad, but did slip and fall at a roller disco before getting my pad on the knee I fell on. Chipped the kneecap. So painful and surprisingly incapacitating. I needed surgery to remove wee fragments and I honestly think one is still there as there is a weird wee lump that I can wriggle about 🤮

Also very behind this year!! Paper chase at larger tescos have some cute desk accessories my dd loves, she’s 9. I bought some cat highlighters.

Barbie unboxed birthday tower is down from £25 to £10 in Tesco and Amazon. I have bought one for my other dd who has just turned 6 as she loves unboxing if that helps?

Thank you that’s my first purchase on these threads and my first year joining in! My 4yo will love this.

Wool by Hugh howey is a trilogy - literally couldn’t put it down. Should be suitable for a 15 year old !

I've just googled those and I said to my husband "you know the Silo programme? that was based on books..." before I finished, he said "oh mini naive would like to read those" so good call!
Thanks

Can anyone recommend some books for a 15yr old please?
She likes dystopian stuff.

Sprung to mind for me were The Wasp Factory which I read at age 15/16, and The Girl With All The Gifts. Both excellent, bleak, good stories, age suitable.

Not a subscription but there are some one-off psychology magazines here if that helps

B and M have these out in their Christmas bit. Their sticker was £3 but when I scanned with the app they were only £1. They’d be a nice wee stocking filler

Has anyone seen any offers on Posca pens or highlighter pens and a colouring book suitable for a teen girl, please?

@Londonmummy66 I just wanted to say thank you again for pointing out Les Nereides jewellery on TK Maxx. They arrived today and are absolutely gorgeous. Amazing savings.

For anyone who doesn’t know them - really high end costume jewellery - the brand that Fable try to emulate. I’ll post pics tomorrow.

Edited

So glad you liked it - I've lusted after their stuff for years. <ine has arrived via click and collect so I need to pick up tomorrow...

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 22/09/2025 21:36

Oh that’s good to know, hopefully the current collection goes in next year as the leaf hoop earrings are calling my name for Christmas time but too expensive to justify.

Tell your OH to get them now as they won't have many and the discounts are really good. I know the real life store well and the RRps are genuine

Did you spot the N2 sub-brand on TK Maxx also?

Yes but I don't think they had anything different?

naiveandrestles · 22/09/2025 21:53

Thank you. Off to Google.

Depending on her reading preferences, and what else she has read, how some of the (modern) classics

Never Let Me Go (Kazuo Ishiguro)
When We Orphans (Kazuo Ishiguro)

The Day of the Triffids (John Wyndham)
The Crysalids (John Wyndham)

The Handmaids Tale (Margaret Atwood) - actually some of the others from Atwood, like Catseye and Alias Grace, aren’t technically dystopian but they are kind of dark and interesting

Or some Orwell or H G Wells?

Or Our Man in Havana (again not dystopian but sort of parallel history and a bit dark)

Arregaithel · 22/09/2025 22:48

SirLottie · 22/09/2025 17:40

Some offers on Posca at asda at the moment, around £12 for a set of 8. Hobbycraft also currently have 25% off posca

@Offherrockingchair posted by @SirLottie a couple of pages back. 🙂

These ones are just new and still full price on their website. As much as I like them I will wear them so infrequently for full price. This thread has ruined me over the many many years, I always need a bargain 🤣

Scout2016 · 22/09/2025 23:20

@naiveandrestles Riddley Walker by Russell Hoban is meant to be a classic.

IlovePond · 22/09/2025 23:34

@naiveandrestles

The Chaos Walking trilogy by Patrick Ness - the first one is: The Knife of Never Letting Go

Pretties series: Scott Westerfield

Gone series: Michael Grant

Before I Fall: Lauren Oliver

The Hunt series: Andrew Fukuda

Station Eleven: Emily St John Mandel

I love the Wool series and Never Let Me Go

The M&S sale seems to have ended for its own brand items - Per Una, M&S Collection and the sporty one. (Go Move?)

I can’t find the items on the site, even if I search for the full name of it, eg “Pure Cotton Printed Mini T-Shirt Dress.” Oh, but “2pc Pure Cotton Plain Changing Bag” works, for £10.49, but in an impractical plain cream colour.

However, if there’s something you’ve already ordered and perhaps wanted another, or to try a different size, it’s currently working if you go to your order history and click on the item there. Stocks are low, though. Apologies that I can’t link to the items I found as I use the M&S app and can’t find how to link from that.

This method may not last for long. It was last Monday to Tuesday overnight when the final sale prices - the ones which end with 9p - weren’t visible at first but appeared when you added things to your basket.

If anyone knows another method of finding the M&S own-brand sale items I’d love to read it. Clearance for other brands continues.

Yalz · 23/09/2025 03:44

Boots £10 Tuesday includes some Britney Spears perfume today. I’ve just bought 100ml of the Fantasy Eau de Parfum, normally £49. They also have the 50ml bottle for the same price, plus the Midnight Fantasy in the 50ml and 30ml sizes, also £10.

Tweezerman tweezers are £10 instead of £22: perhaps a useful stocking filler.

Probably less useful as a present, I also bought a blood pressure machine, which since it’s Boots own brand cost me £9.

Lastly there’s a slime set in the £10 Tuesday offer.

MellyCakes · 23/09/2025 05:09

Thanks @Yalz , I got the Britney perfume. Amazing price for 100ml!

Estée Lauder Double Wear Smooth and Blur Primer is in Boots £10 Tuesday - usually £39.

MulberryPeony · 23/09/2025 07:02

Came on to say about the Boots £10 Tuesday deals but been beaten to it. Hello Kitty/Pixi spot patches and Nivea men face gift sets ordered - husband uses the Nivea men so will just be a cupboard reset rather than Christmas gifts.

ReindeerAndChristmasCheer · 23/09/2025 07:06

Arghh I missed the heated blanket chat and now I need one! Any ideas please??
