Thread 3 - The one with the unhinged crab 🦀

1000 replies

Reastie · 14/09/2025 19:30

I certainly don't want an unhinged crab for Christmas Grin

This post is a work in process and if you have any links you’d like to share or would be good to add then please do let me know. The general consensus for the thread is to share any bargainous links, ideas and/or discount codes or information. No affiliate links (is that the right word?) And any referral links to the separate thread linked below. This is a warm, friendly, kind and cosy corner of mn filled with Christmas cookies and hot chocolate - let’s keep it that way!

If you have any referral links then please post on this thread https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212180-bargain-referrals-thread-7 and share around the joy/referral perks.

These are great. They turn cities into escape rooms and are good for all ages. We have done a couple. Last year I purchased on black Friday and got 3 for 2.

These look good. Have saved to look at on black Friday for hard to buy for BIL!

I’m getting my 8 yo DD: fluffy Squishmallow PJs, a squishville hotel that was recommended on here, craft stuff - felt, a stitch sampler for embroidery practice and some metallic embroidery threads, possibly a crochet toys set as she likes to crochet. Possibly air dry clay because she loves that. Playmobil princess and pony set. Does she have a music player or something like that? Nice headphones? Little live pets? These aren’t all things my daughter is getting, just things that spring to mind :) what’s she into?

Stitch and Harry Potter. She starts craft projects and doesn’t finish them. 😂 Good recommendations though - thank you!

Yes mine likes to start things and they might hang around unfinished for a long time :) I think air dry clay is good for just making a few little things in an afternoon.

Any thoughts on whether kindle scribe will be on offer before Black Friday? Kicking myself I didn't order the 64gb green one when it was on offer for £349.99 instead of £429.99 a couple of weeks ago

Chances are pretty high.

The unhinged crabs are less than £2 on tik tok shop

Thanks @reastieand Thanks everyone for the recommendations…

So far I’ve bought a science experiment kit, a potions kit, some whistlefish cards with a nice referral code discount. I’m managing to resist buying things I don’t need so far 👍

I wondered if anyone had any recommendatiojs (ideally bargainous) for a game or similar for people who like escape rooms?

Have a look at EXIT games - Zatu tend to be good prices, but worth double checking if you decide on one! https://www.board-game.co.uk/buy/exit/?srsltid=AfmBOoq0j2D5wE7XZCKXoE5GSls-rI_Y3BMIb3fEiVDy-ZBV0mD3LMyO

Just wanted to say thanks to all. I got the clarins samples, some wooden toys from sports direct and a usborne sticker book on amazon. Haven't ordered from them, but I keep seeing ads for books2door.com. They seem to have massive discounts on children's books. Has anyone ordered from them before?

Delahot · 14/09/2025 23:31

I’ve been asked to buy a set of highlighters (about 6 or more colours) but they have to be small, not like the standard stabilo ones. Either thin pen type or just small to fit in a pencil case. Very different colours and long lasting. They are for annotating texts so need to last and stand out. Just looking for any recommendations please x

Loving the return of these threads. Mystery guides are a brilliant idea!

Any recommendations for decent quality/ideally also bargainous popcorn and/or candy floss makers gratefully received. Am also on the lookout for a marble run for DS who will be 4 although part of me is still wondering can he be trusted not to put them in his mouthHmm

Please don’t give a 4 year old marbles.

My friend’s 4 year old daughter swallowed a marble and died.

Confusedmeanderings · 15/09/2025 01:55

Thanks for the Clarins tip off. Got myself some Beauty Flash Balm, chose my 3 samples plus the other 6 samples all for £14.85!

Wellwhoknewthat · 15/09/2025 06:10

@Onlyatchristmastime have a look at ball runs rather than marble runs.

Onemoret1me · 15/09/2025 06:12

Thanks all, I’m sold on the heated throws. Now just to pick which ones (probably two the same so the kids don’t argue!)

I got DD these ones for school as she prefers the less chunky ones too.

Oh - I’m incredibly sorry to read that but genuinely grateful for you sharing, as it was making me nervous and that has helped me decide against it. His best friend the same age has one and DS loves it but I will look at ball runs instead (thanks pp for the suggestion).

I've had a look and they are 3 for 2 at the moment too.

I like these: www.amazon.co.uk/Highlighter-Grip-Modular-Chiselled-Water-Based/dp/B0BQN6M4PM

they are the same size as a normal pen so fit in a pencil case easily. They last well. Often on offer

I've ordered from books2door a few times and it's always been good. Last time I got a heavily reduced set of dinosaur books that were listed as damaged, but they arrived in perfect condition.

Hi @Onemoret1me - I posted about the Costco heated throw on the previous thread - they are £32.99 and automatically cut off every 4hrs

https://www.costco.co.uk/Furniture-Mattresses/Home-Furnishings-Accessories/Cushions-Throws/Berkshire-Luxe-Faux-Fur-Heated-Throw-in-Taupe-127-x-152-cm/p/4000000Beige

If people don't qualify for warehouse membership there is an online only membership for £42 per year.

Excuse my ignorance as I don't use tik tok. Tried to find these but the shop seems to be for business sellers? How do I buy from them please? @Christmasmcchristmasface

ILoveCatsAndKittens · 15/09/2025 08:30

these hand creams are half price at Boots, would be good to split or even for home made crackers.

My Boxtails have arrived and they look great so thank you to the pp that posted the 50% code. They have extended the code (AUTUMN50) till the end of the month but look to be out of stock at the moment.

Hi, can I ask what best before is on them please? Thanks!
