Thread 3 - The one with the unhinged crab 🦀

Reastie · 14/09/2025 19:30

I certainly don't want an unhinged crab for Christmas Grin

This post is a work in process and if you have any links you’d like to share or would be good to add then please do let me know. The general consensus for the thread is to share any bargainous links, ideas and/or discount codes or information. No affiliate links (is that the right word?) And any referral links to the separate thread linked below. This is a warm, friendly, kind and cosy corner of mn filled with Christmas cookies and hot chocolate - let’s keep it that way!

If you have any referral links then please post on this thread https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212180-bargain-referrals-thread-7 and share around the joy/referral perks.

Hi sorry just popping along to ask if anyone has any advice for some 8/9 year old girls hair accessories ideas? Not sure what sort of thing are in with that age range

Home bargains are good for this. My 9 year old likes claw clips and the flower ones seem fashionable at the moment. In home bargains these are 99p.
If you have a Claire's near you they are also good for bows (though pricey).
Scrunchies and hairbands are not that popular where I am.

We saw the Nee Doh advent calendar in our local Smyths tonight for £24.99. Sold out online, so looks like it might be popular. We didn't buy it as we already have a lot of the Nee Doh Nice Cubes and the Pastille type ones. Really good for kids with sensory issues (they are a bit like fidget toys / squishy)

Does anyone know of anywhere selling rugby boots?
DS2 has expressed an interest in playing but don’t want to spend a fortune in case it doesn’t stick
He’s in men’s sizes too (size 9) so need the more expensive adult ones

Hello I buy rugby boots for my son through an eBay store which sells brand new sports stuff as seconds. There are some good deals normally. The store is called sports bay clearance https://ebay.us/m/z39i29

Set of 3 squishmallows from £24.99 down to £9.99

My DC are too old for them now but thought it might be useful to know for someone?

@sparkleghost we recently got some of these as an addition to our train track. You can use them with Duplo blocks to create a raised train track and you can be so much more imaginative with it.

Yes I’ve had same tried Apple Pay, PayPal and a card and same with all of them

Did you manage to get it to work in the end?

Here4the · 22/09/2025 20:49

@Reastie heads up that we're over 900 posts now 🎄

Arregaithel · 22/09/2025 20:50

@trivi

It may be account specific. I don't see a voucher either (normally just under the price)

Trying to get up to date, have bought zero yet! Just been through the whole of thread one 😅 I have 10 and 5 year old girls and not many ideas so far!
Eldest has just got a new bed with a desk so I am thinking maybe desk accessories. Any ideas for the best place for that please?

Also very behind this year!! Paper chase at larger tescos have some cute desk accessories my dd loves, she’s 9. I bought some cat highlighters.

Barbie unboxed birthday tower is down from £25 to £10 in Tesco and Amazon. I have bought one for my other dd who has just turned 6 as she loves unboxing if that helps?

Tiptree have an offer on their liqueurs, the 35cl bottles are £19.99 but you can get 3 for £29.99. Mini sets also included in the offer. I ordered some as gifts last year which went down well so have ordered again for this year.

Tiptree

Thanks @MerryMischief

They also have

  • really nice sets of “tipsy conserves” (and regular ones) with automatic 20% off food gifts
  • nice chutneys
  • and they even do various conserves with personalised labels
  • all with 10% off with WELCOME-10

The discounts don’t stack, but seem very good value.

I’ve bought quite a selection as we have a few people who only want consumables this year.

I just wish there had been an option to have them delivered closer to Christmas because it’s going to annoy me having to store them for 3 months.

Jfw82 · 22/09/2025 20:58

@Georgieporgie29yes just got it to work - left it a couple of hours so perhaps they were overrun with Mumsnetters!

Georgieporgie29 · 22/09/2025 21:02

@Jfw82 perfect, thank you. Mine has just gone through too, now here’s hoping I’ve guessed the sizes right!

fishfingersandchipsagain · 22/09/2025 21:15

@Londonmummy66 I just wanted to say thank you again for pointing out Les Nereides jewellery on TK Maxx. They arrived today and are absolutely gorgeous. Amazing savings.

For anyone who doesn’t know them - really high end costume jewellery - the brand that Fable try to emulate. I’ll post pics tomorrow.

Can anyone recommend some books for a 15yr old please?
She likes dystopian stuff.

Wool by Hugh howey is a trilogy - literally couldn’t put it down. Should be suitable for a 15 year old !

QuaintGreenFawn · 22/09/2025 15:48

For toys for 18m old I can highly recommend the Melissa and Doug (or other similar wooden versions) coffee shop or ice cream shop, both mine still love those.

Good shout. I got the ice cream set for £25 (half price) last Xmas after seeing it on these threads. My 20 month old loved it and still does

naiveandrestles · 22/09/2025 21:29

Ive never shopped here so cant vouch for them but they have some cool tea light holders, oil burners etc and are made in Britian https://www.glosters.co.uk/

And for the person who has literally everything, wonderful (and expensive!) tiled matchboxes. If I used candles I would be trying to justify a flamingo! https://jolaing.com/collections/ceramic-matchboxes

TheWeeDonkeyFella · 22/09/2025 21:36

Wow, those matchboxes and coasters are lovely @naiveandrestles!

Oh that’s good to know, hopefully the current collection goes in next year as the leaf hoop earrings are calling my name for Christmas time but too expensive to justify.
