Thread 3 - The one with the unhinged crab 🦀

I certainly don't want an unhinged crab for Christmas Grin

This post is a work in process and if you have any links you’d like to share or would be good to add then please do let me know. The general consensus for the thread is to share any bargainous links, ideas and/or discount codes or information. No affiliate links (is that the right word?) And any referral links to the separate thread linked below. This is a warm, friendly, kind and cosy corner of mn filled with Christmas cookies and hot chocolate - let’s keep it that way!

If you have any referral links then please post on this thread https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212180-bargain-referrals-thread-7 and share around the joy/referral perks.

Thanks for the real steam train feedback, I always see him and wonder if he's any good. My daughter 3 is entranced with trains...

It does steam, but maybe slightly less that the small one hoped. It’s still a big favourite 2 years later. Definitely a “wow” present.

Has anyone received the Smyths Toys catalogue yet?

Willow4987 · 21/09/2025 20:07

@GRCPnot yet. Hopefully it arrives this week

autumnleaves8888 · 21/09/2025 20:13

@GRCP we have our copy, we went into the store to pick ours up. Have to say , slightly disappointed this year. Doesn't seem like there's much choice and not many new toys out. Guess it depends on what your children are into x

Buy one get one half price at the entertainer on Happyland

I’m sure my two will manage to find inspiration!

The Netflix merch shop has emailed me to say they are having a week of offers starting tomorrow.
Monday 40% off tshirts
Tues 40% off Mugs
Weds 35% off collectibles
Thurs 40% off Sweatshirts
Fri 40% off hats

And 30% off sitewide with the code FORTHEFANS -also Mon-Fri

Bit miffed having just spent £100 on KPop Demon Hunters merch there two weeks ago 😬Trying to remind myself I needed to have stuff here in time for DD's birthday (even tho that's still two weeks off aghhh!) Maybe I will treat myself to a mug as compensation!

Postscript books have some lovely calendars reduced to £4.99. Perfect as " wee mindings" for older relatives.

The price of some of that stuff is outrageous, but I've still added some to my basket 😆
Will also pre order a funko pop character for my eldests bday. Hope the craze hasn't passed by then!

Streetcornerchoir · 21/09/2025 21:06

@ChristmasJumperz may be worth returning or at least asking customer service if they’d honour the discount if you’re still in the returns window, some companies will.

I know! I just went on to look and quickly backed off again. I think my nieces would love it though......sigh.....

What would you buy for an 18 month old? Preferably not tut 😂

Seems to be the hot word of this thread but Brio or a similar toy that can be added to over the years. Similarly, Duplo. Also often around this time of year you can pick up a good priced little tykes car for the garden.

I remember they came quite late last year by which time I had already picked up one in store.

SuitablyScolded · 21/09/2025 21:27

@Threeboystwocatsandadog thank you! I didn't know the shorty ones existed but got a nice looking one for £17, fab.

I was just thinking today what a great gift this was. We've used it a lot from ages 18 months onwards

My daughter’s favourite Xmas present by far at 22m was a little tea set- it was a complete surprise hit as it was actually brought for her by the young man I am a carer for. She played with it for hours that day and she is now 3.5 and it is still played with as part of her kitchen. It has a teapot that can have batteries in and makes noises etc but personally I hate noisy toys so have never put the batteries in and she hasn’t know any different.

Some of the duplo sets would be suitable for an 18 month old, and they can keep playing with it and using the blocks for ages. The animal train set is lovely and on sale now both on amazon and Asda

Looking for a Christmas present for a 6+ months old, they do have an older siblings so will already have hand me down toys. So looking for something different maybe?

Bath toys? I find they don’t hand down that well as tend to go mouldy.

Clothes?
Book
Personalised back pack or lunch bag or soft toy?

Anything that's 'theirs' and isn't additional plastic shite to clutter the house with is always appreciated for my third (though he's just turned 3 so starting to develop his own interests so soon will want actual proper toys and gifts)

PoorUncleBarry · 21/09/2025 22:08

I can't remember the name of the poster who asked but regarding the app called Whatnot, it's completely legit. In the last week and a bit since I signed up I have bought about £400 worth of stuff for £150 and its all for Christmas. I even have some genuine Squishmallows for a third of the price. For anyone curious, it is like Ebay but instant bidding not days/weeks later.
