Thread 3 - The one with the unhinged crab 🦀

Reastie · 14/09/2025 19:30

I certainly don't want an unhinged crab for Christmas Grin

This post is a work in process and if you have any links you’d like to share or would be good to add then please do let me know. The general consensus for the thread is to share any bargainous links, ideas and/or discount codes or information. No affiliate links (is that the right word?) And any referral links to the separate thread linked below. This is a warm, friendly, kind and cosy corner of mn filled with Christmas cookies and hot chocolate - let’s keep it that way!

If you have any referral links then please post on this thread https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212180-bargain-referrals-thread-7 and share around the joy/referral perks.

Chipping in to say I used two excellent recommendations from the ‘small business supporters’ Christmas thread!

One that does candles and wax melts at v. Cheap prices and one that does metal animals (with names) on Driftwood. Both really good products and great customer service. Really happy.

Could you link to that thread please? I couldn't find it in the Christmas topic but it sounds excellent.

Hi, can someone recommend a nice chocolate box for my DH?
I've given him, Godiva, Cadbury Milk tray, Lilly O'Brien, Green and Blacks, Charbonnel et walker, Hotel Chocolat, Lindt and Love Cocoa over the years. Budget up to £30-40.

Art Chocolate are genuinely amazing:

Thank you for the Hugo Boss Bottled tip. DS1 is a fan of this so I’ve now started my Christmas shopping! It’s a great price. Am also getting nearly £7 in advantage card points from my app so even better!

The Chococo selection boxes are lovely - I was gifted one last year and then bought a couple myself as it was so good. www.chococo.co.uk

If you want to try something a bit more homemade rather than big brand, Hill Street are amazing. Obviously you don't get quite as much as the brands above but the quality is fantastic. Recommended by Annalisa Barbieri who does a chocolate column (what a gig!) in the Observer.

Yalz · 19/09/2025 13:43

Hill Street sounds like a very good idea, especially for me as I’m local enough to collect, but be careful as a significant proportion of them contain sorbitol, I don’t know why.

Some also contain soya lecithin, and barley malt extract which is not gluten-free.

There must be reasons, but I was surprised, given how high-end and expensive they are. Selection boxes work out at £5 for 3 ‘pieces’.

nothingtoseehereatall · 19/09/2025 13:48

@Yalz Well obviously people with allergies have to check labels for eg gluten etc. But sorbitol is an extremely common ingredient, Hotel Chocolat, Lindt etc all use it (obviously dependent on actual product). Why would you expect a high end box to be entirely gluten free though?

Nottodaythankyouverymuch · 19/09/2025 14:09

Some good offers on Vodafone. Harry’s razors starter set for £5 something and free coffee- need to remember to cancel subscriptions after first deliveries but nice for a teen boy.

hugsandpugs · 19/09/2025 14:19

Thanks for the boots Hugo boss offer just ordered it for DS for Xmas and Versace dreamer 100ml for DH. £75 for both and I’ll get £15 back in advantage points and hopefully £7.50 back with PayPal 🤩

IceCreamplz · 19/09/2025 14:21

Thanks so much! @TryingAgainAgainAgain @ThaliaFailure @nothingtoseehereatall

It doesn’t have many posts, but the two I used were excellent - my mums Christmas present sorted plus a gift for myself as I deserved the treat! I’m just waiting for payday to order from the jewellery store…

Please forgive my terrible photography skills. But I thought it might be helpful to see what the products actually look like v. the photos online.

Anyone got any good ideas for how to wrap tickets as a present for a 8 year old?

We’ve got him tickets to the Gladiators live tour (he’s going to lose his mind), but not sure how to present them. Think I’ve seen scratchcard options, but looking for what has gone down well.

This has just happened to me too! And I’ve never shopped at Riverford…but checked my bank statement and it’s taken the money out. I’ll wait a few days to see if anything changes.

Is there any Merch for the tour which you could buy in advance and "hide" the tickets in there? T-shirt, foam hand etc?

When mine have had tickets for things Ive done a fake ticket and a tshirt with a suitable picture. That way they have something to open and something to remind them that the activity is coming. Etsy has loads of options for tickets.
