I certainly don't want an unhinged crab for Christmas Grin

This post is a work in process and if you have any links you’d like to share or would be good to add then please do let me know. The general consensus for the thread is to share any bargainous links, ideas and/or discount codes or information. No affiliate links (is that the right word?) And any referral links to the separate thread linked below. This is a warm, friendly, kind and cosy corner of mn filled with Christmas cookies and hot chocolate - let’s keep it that way!

If you have any referral links then please post on this thread https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212180-bargain-referrals-thread-7 and share around the joy/referral perks.

@Tarragon123 thank you! Beginning to understand what she wants now!

CrimboPourLesKids · 17/09/2025 18:05

Hello to new thread! Just caught up on 500+ posts on old and new thread. Think that’s just how I’ll have to do it.

Can someone please help me with the M&S Sparks 20% of fashion and beauty offer? Is it finished already or only appears for some people? Couldn’t see it in the M&S app Sparks section.

@Tarragon123 thank you! Beginning to understand what she wants now!

The Nespresso Aeroccino is great. You can probably get a good deal on the old model 3, the newer model does cappuccino milk as well as latte milk - I can’t tell the difference!

daisyboo1 · 17/09/2025 18:18

@CrimboPourLesKids thank you. I'll have a look at both models.

TheWeeDonkeyFella · 17/09/2025 18:19

@CrimboPourLesKids my Sparks 20% offer ended yesterday. I think it's all a bit random with Sparks as I get offers quite regularly while others say they hardly ever have them. I do check the app regularly though.

I expect offers will continue to pop up over the next couple of weeks and then perhaps pause for a week or two when the beauty advent launches in early October.

@Sleeposaurus
Thank you both, definitely a whole frothy world out there I didn't know about!

Any recommendations for 8 year old girls? She’s not old for her age, and is getting Lego, but I’m lacking inspiration. She’s got a giant stitch and loads of board games.

As someone who works in education I recommend fewer "girlie" toys and think STEM. Toys and games that require construction (not the awful pink lego) like mechano and more advanced lego kits. Chemistry kits are good too. Who doesn't want to create potions? Toys marketed to boys give them an advantage in STEM.

@Fuckingfuckssake thank you. I thought a milk frother looked like a flat whisk on a stick? That's why I couldn't picture what she was talking about. Have looked online at the Lavazza you mentioned, which seems ideal. But maybe pricey for a 7 yr old! And also saw a John Lewis one with a spout, which I guess looks similar in shape to the Velvetiser. I didn't know they were "kettle" shaped, IYSWIM. Would you recommend with or without a spout?

Im sure Aldi do there own version? Keep an eye out on the special buys!
Although ive got a Lavazza and ive had it for about 4 years now, well worth the money. I got mine on offer from John Lewis for £20.

I second Bambu labs.

But beware, 3D printers are one of those things where you always want to upgrade to the next one up.

TBF when we had the Ender, most of the time was spent printing upgrades for it 😅

Another vote for a Bambu printer. They are reliable and you get a lot of bang for your buck. Last time I checked the A1 mini was less than £200 which is really extraordinary for a 3D printer.

daisyboo1 · 17/09/2025 18:39

@ILoveCatsAndKittens thank you. The Lavazza one's been mentioned twice now, so will investigate further.

DN (7) has asked for a milk frother that looks like my Velvetiser, but froths and heats milk. Not hot chocolate! Does such a thing even exist? Please can someone point me in the right direction! I'd love to get her exactly what she's talking about as she's lovely and never asks for anything normally!

We have a lavazza. We bought it as seconds on Ebay a few years ago so it was significantly cheaper but still came with a guarantee etc. It has been well used.

daisyboo1 · 17/09/2025 19:07

@naiveandrestles thank you! I'll get looking.

keepincool · 17/09/2025 19:15

My Amazon haul order arrived today. I played safe and only ordered a few bits in case it was a bit crap - but it isn't! I'm really impressed. I got 3 large foldable shopping bags, 3 small reusable bags, 2 small pocket notebooks and a lovely metal bookmark - all for £6.61.

I'll definitely order haul stuff again when they do discounts.

My daughter has this from All Saints and wants another similar cuff. Can anyone recommend something? There are lots of options online but you never know what they are actually like. Not allsaints price though!

I also got my haul. The slip on trainers were a mistake as was the fake garlands. But the uniglo type bag is fab as are some red linen napkins for Christmas. Also some tools I got for ds stocking. Not sure about the packing cubes but but will give them a go.

BionicEar · 17/09/2025 19:47

Can’t recall who posted it but thank you to whoever recommended https://tankmuseumshop.org/collections/clearance as found some great bits in their sale for the husband and father in law.

The tank slippers and books about the Spitfire I suspect will go down very well.

Thirtysomething123 · 17/09/2025 20:22

My DD wants two things both of which I know nothing about!

a white fox hoodie: I’ve looked them up and they are so expensive! Are they worth it?! Do they give out codes or anything?

skincare: shes ten and I never use anything on my skin as I’m allergic to so much so I don’t know where to start! What is good for this age?

There’s a Salter one in Tesco half price with a club card at the moment - just debating for DD16! You can do hot chocolate or just frothy milk.

hby9628 · 17/09/2025 20:27

@Thirtysomething123yes white fox hoodies are good but they are massive so ask advise on sizing on here when you are ready to buy. Also hold off. They do big discounts around Black Friday (if not before) download the app to be notified

hby9628 · 17/09/2025 20:28

@Thirtysomething123sorry for skincare look at byoma…very on trend and you can get cute sets from boots or something like simple. I’d just stick to face wash/cleanser & moisturiser for now

daisyboo1 · 17/09/2025 20:32

@SevenKingsMustDie Thank you! I will pop in store and have a look.

WhiskyandWater · 17/09/2025 21:08

@Thirtysomething123 White Fox regularly have 40% off and are gorgeous quality, wash and wear brilliantly. Skincare echo PP and byoma, or bubble or indu if she’s wanting a brand. You can’t go wrong with cerave though if she thinks it’s cool enough.

Flying tiger have quite a variety of more goth style and studded jewellery at the moment

In terms of skincare, word of warning don't buy expensive brands as a present you won't be willing to buy once she runs out as she will inevitably like it and won't be willing to downgrade to the cheaper brands.

My dd is 13, she usually uses primark make up wipes, T zone cleansing wipes for every day, nivea moisturiser. She likes cerave face wash but will also use a grapefruit one from aldi or the foaming tea tree one from poundland. She likes the spot star stickers, I buy them in savers. Make-up She likes Elf, Revolution or Primark. She loves carmex lip stuff (the tubes). Also loves a face mask - in particular the sheet ones; usually get these in primark or superdrug. I would maybe buy a selection of nice smelling skincare and put it in a hamper so she can try different things.

Other beauty things she likes are lush bathbombs, lush dupe shower gels (from lidl), body mists and sprays (she has sooooo many! Her favourite is Charlie black which takes me back to my teens!). Dry shampoo, nail varnishes/stickers.
