Thread 3 - The one with the unhinged crab 🦀

1000 replies

Reastie · 14/09/2025 19:30

I certainly don't want an unhinged crab for Christmas Grin

This post is a work in process and if you have any links you’d like to share or would be good to add then please do let me know. The general consensus for the thread is to share any bargainous links, ideas and/or discount codes or information. No affiliate links (is that the right word?) And any referral links to the separate thread linked below. This is a warm, friendly, kind and cosy corner of mn filled with Christmas cookies and hot chocolate - let’s keep it that way!

If you have any referral links then please post on this thread https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212180-bargain-referrals-thread-7 and share around the joy/referral perks.

Cheeky bastard.

Vax spot wash seems at a good price

probably not ideal as a Christmas present but might be good for someone looking for one 🤣

Lookalikey have got 3 cards for £10 at the moment and postage to you £1.65 for up to 3 cards. They have cards for all occasions including Christmas cards and it uses AI to put your loved ones’ faces perfectly in the picture. You can even put pets in the Christmas cards.
I have used them a few times and the cards are very good quality.

Can't believe we are on thread 3 already!

Onemoret1me · 14/09/2025 20:46

I saw a recommendation for a heated blanket before but didn’t pay much attention as didn’t think I’d need one.

mice been freezing cold today and now remember just how cold it gets in winter. For those that have one, would you recommend? Does it get used very often? Is it safe if left plugged in over night? Also thinking my teenager might like one

MulberryPeony · 14/09/2025 20:56

I can’t speak for all of the Dreamland heated throws but mine has a timer and thermostat.

Thirtysomething123 · 14/09/2025 20:56

I went shopping IRL today and spent ages in B&M. They had some nice lip balms for 80p with the scent of different sweets eg refresher

I know it's an early shout, but I vote the one where the mice are freezing cold for the next thread title.

Lots of heated blankets go on offer at this time of year. We have a Lakeland one which usually pops up with 25% ish off. Gets used a lot.

Sasha07 · 14/09/2025 21:09

@Onemoret1me I bought one for me and for each of my teenagers and can't recommend them enough. I was using mine through the day, everyday and the teens had theirs on at bedtime or if they were cold when they got back from school. They just knocked theirs off when they knocked their telly plugs off (though they probably did forget the odd time, I'm sure!)

What blew my mind was, they can go in the washing machine! I'm sure we got them after seeing it flagged on here, I think it was down to £60 in Boots. We have the Alaskan Husky Faux Fur throws and I've copy/pasted some specs for you:
Key features:
5 minutes to heat up*
Alaskan husky super soft faux fur
Active safety control
Energy saving, from 1p to run**
Machine washable and tumble dryer safe
Intelliheat detachable control
6 temperature settings
1, 3 or 9 hour auto shut off timer
Large size - 120cm x 160cm
They're my best buy from last year's bargain thread!

Flubadubba · 14/09/2025 21:18

Another one who got one from last year's thread. My mum loved hers (was a gift) and DD (just turned 6) can't wait to get it out next weekend so we can smuggle under it to watch Strictly again this year.

Heats really quickly and evenly, has a timer and a nice temperature range. I also use it to WFH when noone else.is about.

Thanks @reastieand Thanks everyone for the recommendations…

So far I’ve bought a science experiment kit, a potions kit, some whistlefish cards with a nice referral code discount. I’m managing to resist buying things I don’t need so far 👍

I wondered if anyone had any recommendatiojs (ideally bargainous) for a game or similar for people who like escape rooms?

Realfastfoodie · 14/09/2025 21:21

https://amzn.eu/d/gct6PRw - this is my bargain recommendation today - a nice price and good for LEGO fans of various ages. Feels sufficiently complex to be really worth it, especially for the price

weareallqueens · 14/09/2025 21:26

Any recommendations for 8 year old girls? She’s not old for her age, and is getting Lego, but I’m lacking inspiration. She’s got a giant stitch and loads of board games.

Catpiece · 14/09/2025 21:28

Sorry, what’s an unhinged crab? 🦀

I’m getting my 8 yo DD: fluffy Squishmallow PJs, a squishville hotel that was recommended on here, craft stuff - felt, a stitch sampler for embroidery practice and some metallic embroidery threads, possibly a crochet toys set as she likes to crochet. Possibly air dry clay because she loves that. Playmobil princess and pony set. Does she have a music player or something like that? Nice headphones? Little live pets? These aren’t all things my daughter is getting, just things that spring to mind :) what’s she into?

XiCi · 14/09/2025 21:47

My Boxtails have arrived and they look great so thank you to the pp that posted the 50% code. They have extended the code (AUTUMN50) till the end of the month but look to be out of stock at the moment.

These are great. They turn cities into escape rooms and are good for all ages. We have done a couple. Last year I purchased on black Friday and got 3 for 2.

Thank you! This looks really interesting… I would have to think of a city they might go to I guess…
