OK, so you all went on a bloody posting frenzy!

Can someone add the countdown from today to make it easier tomorrow? Thanking you!

Morning from my sick bed 😷 LOs germs have got me and I feel a bit rubbish, tired, congested and with a lovely headache.

No rest for the wicked though. We’re going food shopping in a bit then we’re supposed to visit ILs and I’m really fancying a roast dinner. I may skip ILs to stay home and chuck the dinner on…

It is cold here. Summer 4tog (I think) duvet went back on last week. Definitely makes it easier to feel festive and into the planning (I’ve got loads of ideas for LO and need to slow myself down)!

IDareSay · 14/09/2025 10:11

Our heating clicked on at 5am this morning! That was a bit of a surprise after a tropical few weeks.

A roast dinner sounds like just the thing @NoCheesesForUsMeeces we had one yesterday. Hope you feel better soon 🤒

swampwitch0 · 14/09/2025 10:41

Get well soon @NoCheesesForUsMeeces
Not much planned for today.

NoWordForFluffy · 14/09/2025 13:58

I think your plan sounds good, Meeces. I hope you feel better soon. Nothing worse than toddler germs. You'll be glad to know that once they're a couple of years into nursery / school, you all get a bit better at withstanding the germy onslaught!

I've been to take my parents' shopping. Hopefully I sorted their heating on timer for them, as mum said it's been chilly in the morning. I might need to set the temp higher if the bedroom is chilly but the hallway where the thermostat is thinks it's hot enough, but time will tell.

I'm now sitting in the lounge listening to it rain, psyching myself up to do some cleaning!

OP posts:
swampwitch0 · 14/09/2025 14:02

Well, I decided to do some cleaning after all!
Beds stripped, washed and put back on.
The floors have been hoovered/mopped
I might start my new book 📚

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 14/09/2025 19:14

Ahh meeces passed-on-child-germs are the worst for adults , I;m sure they mutate to mega proportions then the LO gets over it and back to their full force !
If mine passed me The Lurgey they said "Barney* Says : it's good to share"
*Barney the purple/green TRex that my DC adored but I think he's been retired or killed off now !

DS ,DD and I had late breakfast then shopping (not DS , he abandoned us for the gym ) got a jumper from Marks and Spencer ..

It is tipping down here , but I have a few days off so I;m meh

Magnoliasunrise · 14/09/2025 20:45

Been tipping down here most of the day as well but I did manage to get to a yoga class so I feel calm.

DH got a Tesco club card so he's not stopped talking about it "pizza express pizzas were £6 but I got them for £3 with my Tesco clubcard" etc etc yes DH most people have been shopping with them for 20+ years 🤣. i expect the novelty will wear off soon.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 14/09/2025 21:19

I used to get over excited when we got money off vouchers through the post Magnolia , not the £3 off if you spend £40 but actual here is a £5/£2.50 voucher . We don;t tend to shop at Tesco unless it;s the local Metro but I used to save these on the fridge ( they were valid for months )

NoWordForFluffy · 15/09/2025 05:21

101

Soooo close to double figures!

I've been awake since 3.30 thanks to the wind. The alarm is going off in half an hour. 😩 Glad I'm off today, though I have got to go to Broadgreen for physio which I can't really be arsed with.

I had a £9 off £90 emailed to me from Sainsbury's the other week. First discount I'd had in ages from them. I get 20% off from Ocado semi-regularly.

Your DH is funny, Magnolia. It's like he's just arrived from another planet. 🤣🤣

Magnoliasunrise · 15/09/2025 06:57

ooooooh noooooo Fluffy how annoying that you've been up so long. Hopefully you can have a chill out post physio.

Yes I sometimes think DH is from another planet!!

We only get rubbish vouchers now like 5% off stuff we never buy. I think there is a marketing glitch in my apps.

GrannyWeatherwaxsBroomstick · 15/09/2025 09:22

@Magnoliasunrise I switched from Tesco to Lidl, their rewards are much better for us and there is a wider range of things included. I just got a free vegetable (any vegetable, I picked a 3 pack of peppers) and a free snack item which was any of their own brand snacks.

NoWordForFluffy · 15/09/2025 09:25

I barely shop at Lidl and I had a free sourdough loaf the other week! Ours is pretty grim so I don't go very often. I sometimes get a few bits from the one in Liverpool city centre on my office days.

I do prefer Sainsbury's though, hence sticking with them!

GrannyWeatherwaxsBroomstick · 15/09/2025 09:38

Ours is new and pretty nice compared to the grotty old Tesco near us @NoWordForFluffy

slowdownandenjoy · 15/09/2025 11:01

Hi all, this is my first post on here but I have been reading the thread for ages. It is my first Christmas with my baby this year and we will be in a new "forever" home. So its an extra special one for our family 😁🎄

I saw an advert for terrys chocolate orange baileys and mentioned to my husband it was going on the christmas food/drink list... he looked at me like I was a bit mad for thinking about it already but he does know what I am like 😅

ThatGladSwan · 15/09/2025 13:51

I was a silent watcher on last years thread so I thought I’d join in this year 🥰 Got 2 little ones 8 months and 3 years and hosting for the first time. Been out and brought all of the little ones stocking fillers today and personalised stockings have arrived!

NoCheesesForUsMeeces · 15/09/2025 15:17

Checking in from the recovery bench. LOs germs haven’t really made a difference to anyone but me. LO is still a bit snotty but back to normal and DH is totally unaffected (his immune system is amazing) while I’m losing my voice, tickly throat and feeling very tired 🙄

I did throw together my first roast dinner in ages yesterday and it was delicious 😋

Funny about the supermarkets. Here Aldi, Lidl & Morrisons are all less than 5 years old and it’s the Asda that’s a bit grotty.

Fluffy hope you’re not too exhausted.

LO was completely overwhelmed last year so I’m desperately trying to keep presents and activities under control this time but it’s so hard, I keep finding things I know he’d like (and the bargain thread isn’t helping)!

Magnoliasunrise · 15/09/2025 16:18

@GrannyWeatherwaxsBroomstick funnily enough i did last week's weekly shop at a lidl and I swear it was at least 20% cheaper than my normal Sainsbury's shop. I do like Sainsbury's but I'm going to give Lidl another go and properly compare the prices. I think their wholemeal seeded loaf was about 80p and the hovis i normally get is about £1.85!! It all adds up.

NoWordForFluffy · 15/09/2025 16:59

I worked out that I'd have to save £8 per week to match what I earn in Nectar points, and my (autistic) kids also have restricted eating, so will only eat some branded items not available in Lidl. Plus I like having deliveries!

I think if you aren't limited to certain foods and don't mind shopping in person, the cheaper supermarkets can be OK. Though much of what I buy (non-branded) from Sainsbury's is price matched to Aldi anyway.

OP posts:
swampwitch0 · 15/09/2025 17:03

I get an ocado delivery each week, plus top ups from the co-op and aldi.
I tend to get cleaning/laundry products from aldi.
I like the eggs from the co op.
You really do need to watch prices, though, as M&S basics and fruit are often the same price or cheaper than aldi.
Asda is very good for cheap hay-fever meds.

NoWordForFluffy · 15/09/2025 17:04

I'm really fucking boring and check prices per kg, not pack. The cheaper supermarkets are often selling smaller pack sizes.
