What Xmas presents have you bought yourself, or plan to?

One of the things that I absolutely LOVE about being single is the time on Xmas Eve and Day that I get to surf the 'net and shop for bargain price goodies for myself. I put away money every month in a savings account throughout the year to buy gifts for people - but mostly for me! 😂

Last year I bought myself a DAB radio/CD player for the kitchen; this year a laptop and a new phone. I've also hit Boots as that's amazing and has 20% off online only order atm - so I bought a new MAC foundation brush and some make-up - now holding fire for the reduced perfume gift sets...😈😁

What do you get yourself?

Really? I buy myself at least a dozen items throughout the year, to open on Christmas Day.

How sad, I’d honestly feel I had failed as a person, if I had to but wrap, then unwrap presents I already knew what they were!

Have you even read any of the reasons people have given for buying themselves gifts?
Widows, lone parents, single people, people who've had horrible Christmases in the past and replace those memories with good ones, or anyone who just feels like being kind to themselves for whatever reason.
None of these people have to buy themselves something, but have chosen to. It's a positive thing. The process of wrapping, waiting and unwrapped may spark happy memories for some.

I don't feel I have failed as a person. I am doing something for myself that brings me happiness. Maybe that act of kindness towards myself has helped me not take your unkind comment to heart. A while ago, when I was not in such a good place, it may well have made me feel even more low (yeah, she's right...what sort of saddo am I, desperate, undeserving, unloved).

Maybe think about the people who might read your cutting remarks before posting,

We feel differently, I can’t think of single person I know that doesn’t have someone to buy them a present.

I think buying and wrapping and unwrapping the presents at Christmas is weird, sorry and all that.

Buy yourself a gift by all means, but just use it.

Maybe you do, but they are not telling you because you think they're sad, strange and failures, or you only know people who are fortunate enough to have someone who cares about them. Not everyone has that.

You’re on here determinedly carping at people doing a little thing for themselves, that harms no one, and you think they have “failed as a person”? I would disagree.

I do similar to you, but I do wrap them and put them into a stocking.

Christmas day I then have a full stocking full of gifts that I can't remember!

YouBelongHere · 29/04/2025 15:02

I bought a 'blind date with a book' from etsy and will put away so I won't know the book until Christmas Day :)

I noticed hmv also do mystery boxes, I'll probably get one of those, see what I end up with _

I did buy myself a Christmas shower gel on Amazon to put in my stocking thinking I was being really organised, it must've been packed by a man 'cos they sent the right scent and brand but it was body butter so I had to send it back >.<

Gosh this thread was derailed by some unnecessary squabble.

I buy myself gifts, mum of 3 very little kids, DH does get me something but the reality is I could hint and hint but he's never going to get me what I want by himself, so I enjoy buying myself EXACTLY what I want, that I wouldn't all year to feel like I've treated myself. I don't receive gifts from family. Christmas is a time for special bits to me, I do the same for buying others, something's are just better versions of ordinary things but that's the point right, feeling a little indulgence and a little sparkle?

Anyway. I bought myself last year the nuxe advent calender when it was 25% off really early on. I absolutely loved it and have only just finished the majority of its contents, minus the oils which I'm still using.

This year I'm thinking some posh PJ's or a nightie, as in a brand, rather than my usual Sainsbury's or Asda! And maybe a book about a non fiction topic I like as I am just feeling I have time now that my youngest is 2 and sleeping well. Oh and some gin. Same reason as the book!!

Will keep watching this thread though in case someone has some inspiration

@MaybeItsTimeForMeNow I'm getting myself some fancy socks for cosy days and bed. There is also a range of reasonably priced "inspired by" perfumes (aka dupes) on sale atm so will get some of those and, as I cannot use all at once, will put some aside for Christmas. Will also add in a luxury body lotion and shower or bath product I wouldn't normally get.

All things I'd like and will use but I don't need right now and are a step up from my everyday items.

This is me.

i love my DH and DCs but present giving is not their forte. At lease if I’m buying something I want I know I’m getting exactly that. DH will still get something, but I guarantee it won’t be as good as what I buy myself 😂

We all know who’s weird here and it’s not those of us doing self care.

I receive presents from my SO, my sister, and old uni friend, a former co-worker and my cousins.

Last Christmas my SO’s gift to me was 10 days in Los Angeles for a film festival; the passes he purchased for the festival were USD$2500 apiece, plus 10 nights in the Hollywood Roosevelt hotel at about £350 a night, business class airfare and more. What did you get?? Are you a loser if it was less?

You immature, spiteful jeering at people who buy themselves gifts is mean spirited and ill informed. Even if people have no one at the moment to select a gift for them, it’s hardly a character flaw. Have some compassion.

Seacatt · 30/04/2025 01:33

I have just bought myself the gift of new walking boots!

They cost £160 and are perfect for me, it's the most I have ever spent on an item for myself to wear by a long way!

I would never expect anyone to spend anything like that on me.
