I'm not at work until Christmas day. So am getting up early tomorrow and getting to the supermarket as it opens. Am off after 3 Christmas day so we're having din then

Just need to set my alarm and make sure I don't snooze.

Just hoping it isn't rammed?

Yes but not for food shopping. I have to get up at 5am to take DS2 to swim training and then go to work. I did food shopping in M&S on Saturday as this year I had too much on with buying a house to get organised with a delivery slot. Never again.

DappledThings · 22/12/2024 21:50

DD is 7 tomorrow and wants breakfast in bed so will have to be awake before her. About 6.30.

Went to supermarket today. It was fine. No particular madness. People like to say all the supermarkets are crazy and hideous this time of year as a collective moan but it's really overblown.

We did the big shop on the 22nd once when I was in labour. I didn't notice it being particularly busier or people in my way.

TheChosenTwo · 22/12/2024 21:51

Dh is going in the morning after collecting the meat from the butchers.
i went today because we have all his family round tomorrow night and we needed to marinate stuff this evening but had forgotten a few things.
Big Sainsburys near us was fine.

MrRobinsonsQuango · 22/12/2024 21:51

No. I will be tired after a weekend of working on a 3,000 word case study for university. But l have work and toddler twins so it won’t be a lie in either

menopausalmare · 22/12/2024 21:52

Probably, but that's because my body clock is still in work mode and wakes me at 5.55am 🙄

AndThereSheGoes · 22/12/2024 21:56

Town was hideous today but not really busy Saturday. I think the weather put people off.
I'm travelling cross country tomorrow. Lots to pack in the car, fill up and hoping for a sneaky car wash first thing. So up early to leave early.
What's nice is once we're there there's nothing else that needs doing. All the foods in, clothes and presents are what we've packed , so it's just relax and hope we've got it all.

mummabubs · 22/12/2024 21:57

Yes! Alarm being set for 5:45 so that I can be in asda just after 6. I had to go there today just to get milk and it was absolute carnage. Literally people yelling at eachother and unable to get down aisles due to sheer volume of people. Told myself that being able to avoid all of this will be worth the reduction in sleep 😅

Up early to travel to the specialist hospital to have bloods done ahead of chemo on Christmas Eve. They’re working hard to fit us all in as quite rightly, they’re closed Christmas Day.

Fingers crossed no traffic issues.

Quiet Christmas planned for us.

MissyB1 · 22/12/2024 22:01

Ds birthday tomorrow, sweet 16! I will be up early (well about 7am) to walk the dog, then making a big cooked breakfast for the family. Busy day with his friends then out to dinner in the evening.

Peridot1 · 22/12/2024 22:01

I tend to wake early anyway. Thank you menopause. Need to be up showered and and out by 8.45 as have booked breakfast out with DH (he’s not impressed!) and then picking up turkey and some bits from Waitrose at 10.

I have done 7am trips to supermarket on Christmas Eve before but have given up on that.

TwinkleLights24 · 22/12/2024 22:03

I’m not rushing up. I think most will go to the shops early so I’ll be going early to mid afternoon for a few fresh bits.

Tarnishedbutton · 22/12/2024 22:08

I absolutely love up with the sparrow Christmas eves, getting up when the sun is rising and feeling all optimistic of the day finishing the last odds and ends off.

Won't be doing it tomorrow but will happily be up and buzzing around on Tuesday.

beautifulbrothers · 22/12/2024 22:08

Yes! I'm planning a 6am trip to either Morrisons or Sainsbury's... Can't decide which. Morrisons is bigger, but I prefer Sainsbury's TTD range and wine. 🤔 We popped into a Waitrose today as we were using the car park and it was heaving! Looking forward to a leisurely amble with fully stocked shelves. 🤭

Are you allowed to buy wine before 11am or is that a rule I just made up? 😂

K0OLA1D · 22/12/2024 22:09

I'm working. From home tomorrow and Tuesday though thankfully, but I start at 7am

daffodilandtulip · 22/12/2024 22:13

It's my first day off and I have nothing planned. I've turned all my alarms off for two weeks. I'm looking forward to a lovely lie in.

Therefore I am guaranteed to be awake by 6am.

TreeBeMe · 22/12/2024 22:14

@beautifulbrothers it only has restrictions for buying alcohol on a Sunday. We will be in Asda before 6am as they are saying they are open from 5am near us, it is usually a 24 hour store that opens 7am on a normal Monday.

Then later Costco with the trade card holders. Everything I could buy ahead I did, if I didn't have to do this I wouldn't but once it is done, it is done.

Same 😁

I'm thinking if I pop awake at/before 6 and everyone else is asleep I'm making a pot of coffee and curling up on the sofa with the dog to watch a Big Fat Quiz repeat or something equally trashy, otherwise I'll be laying in bed absolutely foaming about the injustice of it all.

NoNotTodayThanks · 22/12/2024 22:16

I'm working upto Christmas eve so I went shopping yesterday at 7am and it was pretty quiet. Got everything I needed and was home by 8

AdventFridgeOfShame · 22/12/2024 22:19

No, this is the first Christmas I can remember that nobody has to go to work on the 23rd, 24th. We will sleep and embrace the moment, next year is probably back to normal.

Shallana · 22/12/2024 22:23

I've nipped into the supermarket near me yesterday and today and it was no busier than normal. I absolutely wouldn't be setting my alarm for the crack of dawn!

Snowangles · 22/12/2024 22:24

Yes 😂😂🎄🎄 I'm after a gingerbread house for dd.

My only hope is a very large tesco about 10 mins away

Alliscalmallisnotbright · 22/12/2024 22:27

It’s my birthday so I’m going to get up early, go for a run, get myself a coffee then maybe walk to a local shop to get any bits we need. I am working the rest of the week so just really need bread etc for lunch. DH and kids are going to the in-laws

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 22/12/2024 22:34

Yes, will be at M&S when the doors open at 7, for the turkey, fresh orange juice and some canapés. Taking dh to do the heavy carrying and take it all home, while I do a bit more (non heavy) shopping and get the bus back.

Kibble29 · 22/12/2024 22:36

Yep, 5.30am for me tomorrow because my OH chose to schedule our meat collection for between 6-7am. The good wife I am, I’m off to collect. I won’t be coming home without a coffee in my hand though.

Then it’s a day of cleaning, building (and hiding) toys and tying up any loose ends.

Samandytimlucypeterolivia · 22/12/2024 22:44

Yep but only to go to work 😅 almost done my shopping, need one more thing but isn’t a massive problem if I can’t get it so will just pop into the co-op tomorrow as I want to get my Christmas lottery 😂
