Holiday park keeps ringing me. Why?

I rang a holiday park a week ago asking if they'd any vacancies for caravan hire over Christmas (7 nights). I asked for a quote, which they gave. I told them we are very very last minute people and probably won't contact them until the very day we're leaving. I told them I'd work commitments and couldn't commit until nearer the time when we're hoping to go (this is my MO whenever we go on holiday - last minute).
Anyway, since they rang, they've called me every day. I picked up twice and said I can't commit just yet and only wanted a quote. On Saturday, they rang again, but this time I didn't pick up and won't do until we're decided we're going.

Why do they keep pestering me and what should I do?

Oh I don't know.... maybe call them and ask them to stop ringing you? 🤷🏼‍♀️

ForensicFlossy · 16/12/2024 07:30

They are sales people trying to make a sale to a potential customer.

pizzaHeart · 16/12/2024 07:33

I never been at caravan park but it might be they have a change of circumstances and need to check something with you?

buybuysellsell · 16/12/2024 07:35

It's Christmas. They are probably trying to work out staff cover, whether they need to get anything ready, whether they can expect any revenue. Just call them back!

fanaticalfairy · 16/12/2024 07:36

Probably want to know so they can sort staff and cleaning and bedding etc ... It's bit strange to be like "oh we'll let you know on the day"

ApolloandDaphne · 16/12/2024 07:36

Maybe they are filling up quickly and want to let you know so you don't miss out. Maybe they are keen to get spaces filled up. Maybe they think you have forgotten and don't want you to miss out. Why don't you ask why they keep calling and ask them not to call you?

MaybeItsTimeForMeNow · 16/12/2024 07:36

Yeah it's to arrange cover and make sure you have everything you would need (if) you turn up. Strange to be such short notice I'm surprised they're trying to accommodate it

pizzaHeart · 16/12/2024 07:38

Or more likely that some people can’t understand that you’ve said what you meant. They are thinking that you are playing silly games with them. I know it’s very irritating but lots of people are not very imaginative.

arethereanyleftatall · 16/12/2024 07:38

'We are last minute people'

Lovely for you. Absolutely shit and beyond rude for anyone trying to run a business.

HousedInMySoul · 16/12/2024 07:40

They're probably trying to find out of you want the caravan, or if they cam offer it to someone else.
You could always answer the phone to find out 🤷

Notimeforaname · 16/12/2024 07:44

we are very very last minute people

And they aren't.

UndeniablyGenX · 16/12/2024 07:46

Tell them firmly whether you want or do not want to book the caravan.

backinthebox · 16/12/2024 07:47

Just answer the phone and tell them ‘no, we do not intend to make an advance reservation’ and stop being such a dick about it all. It’s Christmas, they need a plan as to how many staff they need to have on duty, and you have not paid them anything for their flexibility in this matter. If you subsequently decide to book on the day and find they cannot take you, that will be the result of your own lack of commitment.

I get you, but on the two occasions I've picked up, they wanted to know my thoughts of booking with them. Too much.

Just sales, don't overthink it.

ribiera · 16/12/2024 07:49

They're pestering you because they need to plan. You sound like the sort of delightful person who would go absolutely batshit if you called the day of and they said "sorry we've given it to someone else.
You need to give them a yes or a no.

Howisitnotobvious · 16/12/2024 07:51

Don't you think they need to know how many staff to rota on?

itsgettingweird · 16/12/2024 07:57

You may be last minute.

They may not have this tagging etc to make up a van the day you decide you want to go.

NantesElephant · 16/12/2024 08:00

Booking on the day for Xmas week? Christ. I bet you’re one of those people who book on the day, leaving them no time to sort staffing, and then leave them a shit review online when it isn’t cleaned to your satisfaction.

FeralNun · 16/12/2024 08:06

Your way of operating is a total nightmare for everyone else. You don’t need to change if you don’t want to, but you do need to recognise that fact. It explains why they are ‘pestering’ you, and is a direct consequence of your behaviour.

pestoblush · 16/12/2024 08:09

I think I would block the number but I actually am on their side here/ how can they make arrangements for such a difficult time of year to staff the park ?

jannier · 16/12/2024 08:15

How can you book a caravan for Christmas on the last day? Don't they put all non booked ones into winter storage mode to stop damp? On our site they were all closed down for winter as it wasn't full again until Easter so only a few left for use.

Nolegusta · 16/12/2024 08:18

You cannot expect to just book the day before and them magically have everything sorted. They're probably trying to tell you that, in a more polite way. 🫣

user1471867483 · 16/12/2024 08:22

I think so too. We've always rang up on the day to stay there, so they know us well, but they never have chased before like this, but then we've never stayed for 7 nights, only 4 🤔
